Seeing more and more of this set.

We call it X-Over.

Is the inside receiver eligible to catch a screen pass behind the line of scrimmage?  Also, is he allowed to be downfield during a pass play?

No and no

there are up to 6 eligibles on every play.  The 4 players in the backfield and the 2 widest guys on the LOS (widest on each side). The slot receiver in above is covered to ineligible even though there are only 3 players in backfield.

if he goes downfield and pass is beyond the LOS it is ineligible downfield

if he catches a screen pass it is illegal touching.

That is what I thought!  Thanks!

But he can be downfield blocking on a "screen" pass...correct?

That is the specific question asked in the original post.

His rules would be the same as an ineligible lineman.  If the pass is behind the line of scrimmage, he can be downfield blocking.

Just run the dam* triple option out of this set.  🙂

The only way he can touch the ball is if the ball is thrown backwards. Not a great risk/reward scenario if you ask me.
