A senior prank had Clinton Central Jr./Sr. High School closed today (May 1st).  Superintendent Jeremy Fewell says a group of seniors broke into the school late Sunday night and covered the hallways with baby oil. The oil caused slip and fall concerns in making the school unsafe. Custodians couldn’t clean up the mess in time for school to start, so bus drivers took students back home for the day. Fewell says he hopes the school can reopen tomorrow. Administrators are pulling possible security video of the pranksters. The case is considered vandalism and is under investigation.

More information was released Monday evening via press release from Clinton Central School Corporation.

On April 30,2023 between approximately 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.,School surveillance footage shows approximately 20 Clinton Central Jr/Sr High School students breaking into and vandalizing the Jr/Sr High School. The students were not given permission to be on the school grounds or inside of the school building. The group of students broke in through a temporary window that was boarded up with plywood within the current construction area, in which the students are not permitted to be within this area. The vandalism included, but was not limited to the following

.There was vegetable oil on the terrazzo floors, stairways, and directly in front of classroom doors.

.Fishing line was strung throughout the building with the intent to cause a trip hazard and potential injury to occupants of the building. There were also fishing lines outside at the main entrance of the high school with the intent to cause a trip hazard.

.There was spray painted obscenities on school properties.

.Obscene signs were hung outside of the building.

.Staff and students toilets were filled with debris.

.Vaseline was placed on door handles.

.The School Bulldog mascot and wall art graphics around the office were painted.

.Food items were littered throughout the building and on the building’s rooftops.

.Key holes for classroom locks were glued shut.

. And more vandalism occurred than what’s listed here.

The vandalism that took place on April 30,2023 will result in a significant financial cost to the school district, of which that financial amount has yet to be determined.

The incident is still under investigation by the administration at Clinton Central School Corporation, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and the Clinton Central School Corporation legal council. The CCSC administration and School Board do not condone nor accept this type of conduct from CCSC students.

We do want to thank the CCHS football team that was present at 6:00 a.m. for morning weight lifting for assisting with the clean up.

We would also like to thank our staff for their efforts in helping clean up so students to be able to return to school on May 2.

GO BULLDOGS!!

Jeremy Fewell

I've heard the initial cost of the damage due to this "senior prank" is upwards of $25,000.   Not good.

Jeez - some kids are just stupid......These went way over the top.  Baby oil/vaseline pranks are one thing, but spray painting and the extras are just going to put unnecessary costs on top of costs in already struggling school systems.
