I believe another poster made the comment how it gave them gr8 joy when seeing Snider lose by just 1 point.  I've met others that aren't on the forum that admit to being a Snider "hater" simply because of their winning tradition. Not saying that we produce bad people..just end seasons and win games..a few parents who are former players will say outright "I can't stand Snider"..heck I work with a sparty grad who reminds me every week when he asks about the scores from around the area.

Not sure how you could Hate a program as rich in tradition as Snider . A school that has always punched above it's weight against the states biggest schools . A hall of fame Coach , D1 and NFL players, very passionate fan base ,  the list goes on . And I'm talking about a 40 + year body of work that is very impressive . I think a better word would be Respect for the Snider program .

  2. I think if Penn were to lose next Friday it will be the Offense or lack there of . I don't see Warsaw scoring more than 21 points on Penn's defense . Penn's Offense still lacks consistency, they must stay ahead of the chains and limit penalties . And going forward , the lack of a good field goal kicker will surely hurt them as well .

  3. Still can't believe Warsaw took out Carroll. Penn's defense seems to be playing better as of late, I think seeing Mishawaka and New Prairie this year should help them against Warsaw . If we get by Warsaw , I think every Penn fan would love a shot at CP for a Semistate berth  especially at home .

The north is still a crapshoot. It sounds like Valpo might be a little banged up, but when you return 19 starters from a state champion team, you're more than a one or two man show. Merrillville is quietly flying under the radar. Mishawaka will hurt you if you fall asleep against them.

Sounds like the south is a crapshoot as well.

Mishawaka will be a tough out , especially if the game is at Mishawaka .

I think these are great questions and illustrates the point that its more than about size....possibly several factors, not to mention a culture change.  Penn has dominated in baseball recently with back to back state champions.  Why is that?  What is driving baseball success?  To your point, I think several factors have to be evaluated.

What is driving  baseball is longtime coach Greg Dikos(6 State Titles) . He has created a program at Penn that resembles what Chris Geesman had for football . And it starts with Youth programs . Harris youth Baseball has been one of the best in the state/midwest for years. Same for the girls softball program . If Penn's administration is not willing to make a change  , then I wish the coaches would , because they have been blown out too many times in big games.

I think it’s becoming a bit of a culture at Carmel.  This’ll piss @Footballking16 off but I’ve long been a believer that socioeconomic status determines, in large part, how successful a school’s athletic program is…

Carmel has the opposite problem of Tech.  Their disadvantaged population (just under 10 percent at last check) is a detriment in football because those kids simply don’t have the same “grit” as districts in the sweet spot of 20-35%.  Football (safety issues) has become the devil to “soccer moms” in many areas and Carmel likely has more than its fair share of those compared to other areas.

Once again another theory…that I’ll get skull dragged for.

    Tee off.

No skull dragging because your finally on to something LOL . Like BlackGold stated , it's been happening here for a few years . We've also lost good Talent to a very small school to the north in Michigan . Seems there are a lot of parents who want there children in a small school environment.

This is why I say it's the program and not as much enrollment , although enrollment does help . Look at Perry Meridian in Wrestling, or how about Mater Dei , Mishawaka and Bellmont . They had the premier wrestling programs in the state , size did not matter .

I’ve spoken on this in the past.  Once you get above that 2500 student threshold there is a point of diminishing returns.

2500 means you can go 2-3 deep and most positions and that’s good enough.  Little advantage to 4000+ vs 2500 as opposed to 3400 (HSE) vs 1900 (Snider).

I want to be clear in that I believe Snider could compete with nearly everyone in the HCC if the contests are being viewed as independent of one another, but asking them to play that schedule 8 weeks in a row world take its toll.

You’ve been openly critical of Penn’s schedule.  Let me pose the same question to you…what would their record be against an 8 team HCC schedule?

Not going down that rabbit hole because it's irrelevant since Penn is not in the HCC . Besides my thoughts wouldn't matter anyway as you would be right as always . Kind of like arguing with your 16 year old child , they know it all and the parent is always wrong .

Westfield and HSE have an average of 1000 more kids than Snider.  More depth.  I think we saw what happens (Westfield vs Brownsburg) in the HCC when you have a bad night.

Zionsville is a close analogy.  They are a damn fine football team that is an afterthought in the HCC.

Close to Snider in enrollment and capable of sneaking up on anyone but simply cannot punch above their weight week after week.

Reversing the question..Avon/Zionsville win 5/6 games in the SAC.

Carmel , BD and Warren have well over 1000 more kids than Center Grove, Carmel and BD 2000 more . How does Center Grove do it with the lack of depth you speak of ?

Progress is all that matters. What is so frustrating is up here, Penn is regressing faster and faster. Our record looks great, but we are paper giants. Yes we beat two top 10 5A schools, we also beat a then top 10 4A school, but those aren't accomplishments that a 6A blue blood hangs their hat on. When we play quality opponents they drop an easy 35 on us. I look back at previous scores against Carmel, Ben Davis etc, we took them to the line time and time again....now and especially in state we get beat by 50. Now, we cannot even win sectional.  in the last 5 seasons we have won 1 sectional title (because Carroll was not in it at the time).

A coaching change is long overdue .

I agree, but knowing our decision makers at the top, they have made some interesting decisions over the years.

Your Being kind calling them interesting , I have another word for some decisions made in the past . I don't see Penn dropping Valpo , but I would drop Mishawaka like a bad habit over Carmel . Most years , Carmel is going to be a better team than Mishawaka . And Penn needs to play better teams .

I figured that's where you're going with this, but there's no end to it. Do we rank Snider ahead of Ben Davis since they had a better win over Warren Central? You've been Penn's biggest critic, not sure why you're defending them as I question their rank. I hope I'm wrong as I like to see Penn do well. Indiana football is better when Penn is part of the conversation. They have a good win over Valpo, for sure. But the loss to Cathedral was pretty bad. It makes me wonder if Carroll/Penn 2023 will be a repeat of 2022. Again, nothing against the Kingsmen, just an opinion here. And for the record, it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Penn beat Carroll this year.

Not defending Penn , Saying CP is ranked way to High .

Switch 2 & 3. CG seems a little more consistent than BD.

Slide Crown Point behind Carroll. The Chargers are king of 6A North (north of Indy) until dethroned.

Bump Noblesville and Lawrence North in front of Penn. Would you take the Kingsmen over the Millers in a bet?

Would you take Crown Point over Noblesville in a bet?
