    Pre-Season Conference Rankings:

This is to get this thread going again.  I spent 120 seconds doing extensive research on these rankings.

    Large School Division

    Boonville    4
    Gibson Southern    1b
    Heritage Hills    1a
    Mount Vernon    3
    Princeton    6
    Washington    5

    Small School Division

    Forest Park    2
    North Posey    3
    Pike Central    6
    South Spencer    5
    Southridge    1
    Tell City    4

I agree, but I'd switch TC & NP.

My sarcasm meter is broken? I assume this was not intended as a serious comment.

Yes, it's sarcasm. I realize there are some risk of long-term health issues at the college and especially at the PRO level. However, I do not know anyone that had health issues later in life because they played HS football.

    18.  With all the dangers involved, that have been extensively documented,  the decision to play tackle football should be for an adult individual to decide, not when that individual is still a child.

I'd like to say something, but it would get me in trouble. I'll just say, 8 year olds are allowed to make other major decisions in today's society.

Yes! So many of the guys I played with in HS have had their lives ruined because they played football. Even though the rules and equipment were so much safer back then.

5th grade is when we start.  I know there are some that start much sooner.  I don't think it is necessary.

I think it may steer more kids away from football than to football if you start in say, 1st grade.

We play flag through 4th grade and the objective is simply to make it fun so that they will want to play in 5th grade (tackle).

    I'll agree with this.

I think it all hinges on SA.  Hopefully someone from there can give us a little insight.  If they are reloading, I'd take SA to repeat in 1A North.  If they are rebuilding, then I think 1A North is wide open ... especially with a couple others that have been in the mix in the past like 'busco moving up.  One that I did forget, and this is going to depend on overall top of 1A enrollment and bottom of 2A enrollment, is that Seeger could move down.  If Seeger moves down to 1A, I think they might definitely make waves in 1A North.

I THOUGHT during the state game the announcers said the SA QB was a senior. He'll be a tough one to replace.

  5. When I first started teaching, I had an experienced teacher tell me "Look out for yourself, because schools won't be loyal to you". As both a bystander and personal experience, I would say in general he was right.

Back to on topic. Good for Coach West and FC. What a great hire! He's been a winner everywhere he's been. Hopefully, he'll be able to make FC a competitive program.

Because Jeff is a GUARANTEED conference title annually because the NCC is a joke.

    FC/Noblesville are in HCC purgatory.

    Don't confuse the two.

I was simply pointing out the similarities between the two. Similarities that some on here have said are VERY important to having a successful program.

With that said, I actually believe Noblesville has the right guy up there. Look for them to be more competitive over the next few years.

  7. Harrison isn't overtaking Jeff in the next decade. The only way that COULD happen is if Shanley leaves, which I don't see happening. I'm sure Harrison will beat Jeff here and there, but Jeff will win more conference titles than Harrison will.

One could talk about how it's a growing area and F/RL. That sounds a lot like another school that we have a thread about... Franklin Central. Except that thread is questioning whether or not it's a good job. I'm sure the same has been said about Noblesville several times.

In number of students ... yes.

In terms of program performance, Jeff and Harrison have always been fairly close in how they perform.  Jeff's had a couple of better years recently as they've crawled out of the funk they were in for a long time while Harrison was also climbing out.

If you look at the last ten seasons, Jeff has beaten Harrison eight.  The last two seasons though have been more impressive for 5A Harrison even though they lost as they lost by only 7 last season and had a shootout with Jeff in the lost this season 76-55.

More impressive for Harrison this season though was that they dropped one game to 6A Jeff, a game to 6A Westfield, a game to 4A Roncalli by a score of 49-45, and a 33-21 season-ender to 5A Zionsville.  Interestingly, while the varsity dropped their game with Westfield 34-10, the freshman only lost 28-21.  There are high hopes for Harrison.

I believe Harrison will continue to put up winning seasons, because 1) they are a fundamentally sound coached team. 2) the conference they are in.

I'm sorry, but a program that's any real threat doesn't give up 76 points to anyone. I believe the Roncalli game was scheduled on a Wednesday (coronavirus), only giving Roncalli 2 days to prep for that offense. I feel sorry for the Rebels coaching staff! The Zionsville game was 33-6 until mid 4th quarter. The #2's and a couple onside kicks made that score closer than it was.

Not if/but when they move up to 6A, I think they will struggle in the playoffs for the near future. I think the only way they get over the hump, is as they continue to grow (enrollment), they start stealing some athletes from Jeff as well.

    Just sickening.

Now that I have seen this clip which is longer than the ones posted last night on Twitter I have a question.

The coach escorting the player off initially - blue shirt, dark sock hat, white mask.  Is he the same coach that is charging down the 45 yard line towards the other team as the player is charging the referee?  What is the story behind that?  If it is the same coach, his actions seem really off to me.

I didn't catch that the first time. Seems very strange. Perhaps he thought he was going after the other team and not the official?  I do think others were trying to stop him. If only #72 were a little faster. Lol

    file:///C:/Users/tmphi/Downloads/IHSAA%20enrollment%20-%20Copy%20of%20Sheet1%20(3).pdf

As I was perusing thru the latest update on school enrollments, I was shocked to see the dramatic declines at Terre Haute North and South.

Based on the attached files, the following enrollments were reported from the Terre Haute schools in the 2013 classification and then in the 2020 classification :

                                                 2013              2020            %Change

    TH North                              1929              1431              (26%)

    TH South                              1805              1463              (19%)

    Total                                     3734              2894             (22.5%)

Since leaving The MIC, TH high school enrollment is down a whopping 22.5%

This dramatic decline may present the opportunity for the Terre Haute schools to combine with other western Indiana schools to create a new conference as enrollment discrepencies have narrowed

TH North and South could also suddenly be post season players as they will likely both be classified as 4A schools based on the latest enrollment projections.

    What do you think?

Are TH North and South potential 4A tournament threats?

Could we possibly see a new WIC developing in the near future?

Is there potential to bring some Illinois schools into the mix?

Are the Terre Hautes ready to determine their own future finally after being at the mercy of other schools in The MIC and Conference Indiana?

Have you been to Terre Haute? Lol I joke! Seriously, that's a crazy drop in enrollment. I do think it's probably time for them both to change conferences. In most conferences, I believe they would be more successful during the regular season. Having that success, would only help to get out more players.  I don't really need to do the research to guess who would be in their sectional in 4A, to know that their sectional would then be easier than it currently is.

It’s always been interesting to me that private and parochial schools are grouped together as “PP” on this site when their enrollment process is tremendously different.

Not sure what the difference is? Let’s start by looking at Indianapolis...

There are four parochial (archdiocesan) schools in Indianapolis divided by north, south, east, and west deaneries with feeder grade schools. Those schools are Chatard (north), Roncalli (south), Scecina (east), and Ritter (west).

The majority of students at these schools (and football players) attend their “feeder” deanery schools. As a southsider, I can only speak for Roncalli but 21 of their 22 starters are from south side Catholic grade schools. The one exception is a linebacker from Perry Meridian who followed Scott Marsh when he came to Roncalli from Perry.

This is completely different than a private school, such as Lutheran, Cathedral, Park Tudor, or any other non-parochial private school in Indianapolis. These schools “attract” students from across Indianapolis and operate under different financial aid rules than parochial schools. For instance, Roncalli accepts vouchers OR financial aid qualifications, but not both. This means if a student qualifies for the voucher program and Roncalli’s financial aid program, they have to choose one or the other. This is not the case at private, non-parochial schools in Indianapolis, which is why kids are able to attend those schools for free.

Not sure if this helps anyone understand the difference, but thought I would share as someone who has worked in private education who is confused by the “private/parochial” grouping, as those two distinctions operate completely differently.

Parochial schools like Roncalli do not hold a “recruiting” advantage. Roncalli just won 4A state by 42 points but will have zero seniors playing division 1 football next year, while Hobart has two or three.

This is not to say that parochial schools do not have an advantage socio-economically. But there are plenty of public schools that share that advantage as well (CG, Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, etc.).

Thanks for clarifying! I truly didn't know the exact difference.

Just for fun and to keep the conversation rolling based on your statement.

    1.  Could Covenant Christian beat Luers/WeBo tomorrow?  Sagarin says yes.

    2.  Could Luers beat Chatard/Danville tomorrow?  Sagarin says no.

    3.  We’ve seen Chatard already beat Roncalli.

    4.  Roncalli was throttled by Cathedral but could they beat Zionsville?  Sagarin says yes.

    5.  We saw that Cathedral/CG came down to one play.

Didn't Sargins also say Cathedral would beat Castle by 50? I've seen a few of these teams play. I'm going to say Sargins is wrong.

I realize Cathedral has a very special team this year and overall a heck of a program, but let's not act like they could compete with 6A, year in/ year out. How'd 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 go? Some of those playoff losses weren't close games. Cathedral has a heck of a program and most years are exactly where they belong in 5A. I also don't think we should punish some, because of success of others.

As far as an individual tournament, what kind of competitive person would want that? You're too good, so go play on your own? As a public school, you finally win a state championship, would you really feel like you're the "best" team? I would love to hear the debates on here about how this public school could beat that PP school, but only if they played.

Edit: To be clear I'm not trying to speak badly of Cathedral. I think they are the standard, that's why I continued to use them as my example.

Play by the rules or don’t attend.

Someone's a little grumpy. I never said I didn't intend on playing by the rules. I was simply throwing out ideas. I don't understand why I can't buy an all day ticket in the upper deck for $20. I could leave between games just like everyone on the lower level. Since the seats on the upper deck would be sold for the day, they would not have to disinfect them between games, because nobody else would sit in those seats regardless if the all-day ticket people stay or not. Sorry if my response hurts your feelings.

So if I understand correctly for those fans like myself that spend the Thanksgiving weekend supporting Indiana High School football by attending all the games it will be $90 to do so this year? I know times are difficult and they wanna give the partipating teams fans a chance to go cheer on their team but darn this is unfortunate for fans like myself.

Anyone eles do as I do and attend the game not matter if your favorite team is in the games or not?

Where are you see this at? Are they already for sell?
