  1. The always competitive and entertaining HCC takes on Week 5. Brownsburg has established themselves as the top Dogs. Still some other interesting storylines though.

    Avon @ Franklin Central

    Brownsburg @ Fishers

    HSE @ Westfield

    Noblesville @ Zionsville

Who ya got? Final standings predictions?

Just what is "LN's place"?  They have an explosive offense with an elite QB.  North Central has a great defense, but containing that QB is a great challenge.  I think LN wins this game.

Is Warren "in their place" at the bottom looking up?  Is Ben Davis finally "in their place"? Very curious statement.

NC will shut down LN. LN has a good team with good players yes, but they will not consistently play like this all year. North Central will put them in their place.

  3. Center Grove 35 Ben Davis 6

Warren Central 20 Lawrence Central 7

North Central 21 Lawrence North 16

    Carmel 28 Pike 14

Center Grove looking to run the table

Warren Central has still yet to score a point

Ben Davis could potentially come alive

    Carmel offense has issues

North Central looks solid and I believe puts LN in its place Friday night

Some great games and surprises week 1 from the Mid-State. 5-3 in my picks last week.

    Going into week 2:

Greenwood (1-0) vs Indian Creek(1-0) - Greenwood with a great win at Bloomington North last week. Indian Creek has a very talented running back, but if Greenwood can stop him they win. Greenwood 35-21

Martinsville (1-0) vs Bloomington South (0-1) - If you would've asked me last week I would've said BS big, but I think this one comes down to who turns the ball over less. Bloomington South 28-24

DC (0-1) vs Gueirn Catholic (1-0)- DC will bounce back after playing the #1 team in the state. DC 35-14

    Plainfield (0-1) vs Tri-West (1-0)- Plainfield 27-14

Franklin (0-1) vs Shelbyville (0-1)- Tough loss for Franklin last week. Franklin should score at will this week.  49-0

Mooresville (1-0) vs Danville (1-0)- Danville looking to take down back to back Mid-State opponents. Mooresville 35-21

    Perry  (0-1) vs Southport (0-0) - Southport 42-21

Whiteland (1-0) vs Gibson Southern (0-1)- GS has a stud of a qb, but I think Whiteland it too much to handle. 49-21

I'm back to posting MIC content after taking it easy the past few months. Here is my Week 2 preview of the MIC.

Ben Davis at Avon: The Giants once again started their season with a loss after winning 20 straight season openers. 38-7 was the final score against Brownsburg. Avon started the season with a 62-34 loss to Lawrence North. Two teams seeking revenge face off at Avon. Prediction: Avon over Ben Davis 38-14

Cathedral at Carmel: The series is back after a hiatus. Both teams looked impressive last night. I like Carmel in this one. Greyhounds win in a close one, 33-28

LC at LJ: Bronchos kick Bears 55-0

Lawrence North at Marion: Wildcats win in Marion 62-28

North Central at HSE: Panthers in a tight one, 28-21

Pike at Fishers: Tigers bounce back from their loss 35-14

    Open: Center Grove, Warren Central

Give me your insight on next week's games. I hope my Warriors will play soon.

    Avon 35 Ben Davis 21

    Cathedral 28 Carmel 24

    LJ 34 LC 13

    LN 70 Marion 13

    North Central 28 HSE 25

    Pike 23 Fishers 20

    CG 28 Warren 14

So, because we aren’t avoiding one type of contact, we shouldn’t avoid any type? Great logic. You can’t play football without blocking and tackling. But you can play it without handshakes.

So hands aren’t going to touch while playing with sweat and tackling and everything else? But a coin toss can’t be allowed??? I’m just saying. At least have the players go out there. If they don’t want to handshake I’m totally fine with that. But to keep players separated for a coin toss and then 3 minutes later go tackle each other is just defeating the point

I'm not sure about that. If they played there (Gib S) it would be interesting IMO. Probably differnet if GS played at WC. I hear Gib S has a good QB though, may be able to keep competitive??? Keep within 14-21??

One QB wouldn’t change the outcome of that game. Warren central would hurt Gibson Southern players

Lots talking and planning going on now.

And, still a lot of talk and planning still to come.

With the present mask requirement in Indiana, would a delay help the numbers level off?

In your opinion, what are the options for the HS football season?

1 - Cancel the season entirely?

2 - Postpone the season to the spring?

3 - Postpone the season for Weeks 1 - 4 and pick up with week 5 (that would put us at September 18 to start)?

4 - Postpone the season and play the last 4 regular season games (September 25 start with Week 6)?

    5 - Other suggestions?

    What say you?

as always, the game is better

Number 3. Give teams that are in different phases or starting late a chance to catch up. Plus it gives IHSAA more time and everyone a chance to figure this all out.

Hopefully the IHSAA and individual schools will be smart and stop all outside athletic activities, such as baseball, basketball, and softball since they are not in season, and just make the student athletes concentrate on Fall Sports.  From what I have read and heard from other coaches, most of these student athletes have been doing travel sports where they are being exposed to a vast majority of the population.  This increases the risk of catching Covid-19.

Travel sports are spreading more of this. And they have been being played well before the IHSAA came back open. I am also somebody who believes all the showcase events and camps should not be happening. By looking at pictures on social media (Twitter) it looks like zero social distancing is happening. Kids from all of the state are represented at this. It makes the IHSAA look foolish for all of their rules that are to be followed with these events taking place.

  11. I’d like to see which teams moved onto the next phase and which are staying at phase 1 protocols. Reply here on what your team is doing for this week or if you have heard of what certain teams are doing. I know every school district has their own thoughts and ideas.

Rensselaer had 3 HOF coaches on the same staff in the mid to late 1960s.  Bill Siderewicz, Head Coach, Chris Geesman of Penn fame as an assistant and Dale Hummer of Fountain Central and Dekalb fame as an assistant.  Then there was Joe Burvan who is in Wrestling HOF as an assistant and was head coach at one point with an undefeated team at Rensselaer.  That was a staff.

Probably about as good of staff as a program could have

Unreal. Really looking forward to watching them play this year. Fingers crossed we can actually watch them play this year. I have no logical reasoning for making this statement as it's truly a gut feeling, but I have a feeling they're going to come out firing and open a can of whoop*** on Warren in Week 1.

I like CG from the South and I’ll take Penn from the North. No particular reason I just feel that program will find a way to win and get back to the state finals with Carmel goung South. However, i think there could be at least 4 or 5 schools who makes it from the north

Maybe I’m missing something, but there seems to be little talk of the Cathedral Irish here. They return all their skill players sans the QB and majority of OLine. Also advancing is a stacked junior class of 40 players that were undefeated freshmen through arguably the toughest freshmen schedule in the country. Senior depth and leadership at D-Line, RB, WR1, WR2.

Our schedule lightens this year too as we only travel to Penn and Louisville Trinity. We did add a big game with Carmel out of the gates and an emerging Westfield team. I believe this is the deepest Cathedral team in a decade. We’ll know more after Carmel.

Cathedral will be back in the state finals this year. That is my pick for the South
