I think neutral sites for Indiana semi states would be a real dud.

You simply cannot replace the home field on campus excitement and electric atmosphere that a semi state football game brings to a community.  Ohio has many more casual football fans than Indiana.  Their semi state games draw from a much broader audience that goes well beyond the schools participating.

This element is a real feather in the cap of our tournament process.  Its why we are different and unique.

Here is what is very cool about it.  Many schools in the Region might hate Andrean during the season, but they are there at Demaree Stadium on Interstate 65 if the 59ers are hosting a semi state battle, and most become Andrean fans for a night because the school is representing The Region.  That goes for Lowell, Valpo, Michigan City, or anyone else who advances deep into the tournament.

Have you been to a regional or semi state championship game at Ben Davis or Warren Central? No crowd for those schools whatsoever

  2. Should be another exciting season in the MIC. Lots of talent as always. It’ll be interesting come tournament time with all MIC schools going south. Here are my predictions on final MIC standings:

    1. Center Grove

    2. Carmel

    3. Warren

    4. North Central

    5. Ben Davis

    6. Pike

    7. LN

    8. LC

    Thoughts?

You stated that they are making smart moves and other teams should take note,  all I did was outline a scenario where that would not make sense

Teams should take note on scrimmaging on Friday the 14th with no fans rather than Saturday with fans

rosters of 80-130 I am sure its easy to hold their own inter squad scrimmage

If we have a roster of 50, having a inter squad is not feasible to have a productive experience.   Roster of 50, say 15 are Freshman, leaves 35,  of those 35, maybe on average 20 could be ready to go against varsity caliber players, even if you made it as even as possible.   From a smaller school perspective, I need the scrimmage especially this year with no summer competition days to gauge your team.

I never said all teams need inter squad scrimmages. I’m saying that’s just what Warren decided to do. I just think for teams to be smart and have their scrimmages on Friday with no fans

Carmel is just too big.  They have twice the enrollment of CG.

I think the ideal expansion schools for The HCC are Center Grove and Lawrence North.  The schools are current natural rivals and are similar in size and fit the HCC enrollment and socio economic footprint

I also believe it would be beneficial for the Lawrence schools to separate.

Carmel is big for everyone. Fishers and HSE are big as well.

probably getting way too deep into this because it is what it is and I think the conferences do a good job right now. I’m just someone who believes conferences should be based more off of geography. With still the thought of size of school. I think there are multiple ways you could divide up the Indy metro schools for closer drives and varying up competitive play.

  6. 13 minutes ago, DT said:

So if you accepted CG into the conference , which of the following options would you choose ?

    1. Stand pat with 9 schools

    2. Ask a school to leave so as to remain at 8

    3. Look for a 10 th member to join with CG

    9. Still leaves a non conference football game. However, I would like to see Carmel join that conference and take out Franklin Central

  7. I realize there might already be a thread about this, but I felt it was important to start a new one as the talk has ramped up and the start to football is getting closer.

As the guidelines by the state and IHSAA has stated, the Friday date of the scrimmages this year will fall under the no fans allowed phase. The next day, Saturday, fans will be allowed to attend. There has been talks of whether or not to move the scrimmages to the Saturday to allow fans.

In my opinion, this would be a mistake from teams to do this. Scrimmages on that Friday are supposed to be a practice game that culminates all factors of a normal gameday experience. Going to school all day, after school meal, getting body and mind ready, then playing your game. By moving to Saturday, players and coaches do not get to practice this. Also, having a scrimmage on Saturday eliminates another day of preparation for week 1, shortens the week down, maybe not a chance to watch the game film from the scrimmage. Not to mention if there is an injury or a banged up player, one less day to heal for the big opener of week 1.
I get that fans and family want to watch the scrimmage, but for the overall team aspect and preparation it only hurts.

I saw where CG and Avon are sticking to their Friday scrimmage with no fans. I also got news that Warren Central and Carmel have called off their scrimmage because Warren did not wish to scrimmage on Saturday At Carmel. They will now scrimmage themselves on that Friday. These are Smart moves by these programs and other teams should take note.

Plus Franklin Central is the only Marion County public school still experiencing significant growth, just like its HCC counterparts.

Good point. The other township schools have pretty much maxed out on their numbers.

All other HCC member schools are continuing to grow rapidly.

HSE, Fishers, Avon, Brownsburg are really growing into large schools.

Noblesville is over 3,000 students. Not sure how fast they are growing anymore, but it’s a big school.

Westfield and Zionsville are the smallest schools in the conference, but enrollment numbers are rising significantly at a fast rate.

  9. 17 hours ago, Temptation said:

Easy off 65 from Franklin Township...every other school has to navigate 465 (many from the complete opposite cardinal direction) before even getting to 65...during rush hour I might add.

    65 is the easy part.

The conference is great the way it is now. The schools and travel are all similar. Franklin Central is the outlier, but the size of the school makes it work.

Never is a very long time.  All conferences experience change.  Its one thing you can count on.

In my view, the addition of Franklin Central opened up a path to southern expansion for the HCC.  You migt even see pressure on Whiteland and Franklin to seek a new home as they eventually outgrow the Mid State.

I could potentially see a 12 team HCC with a North -South alignment :

    North

    Fishers/Zionsville/Westfield/Brownsburg/Noblesville/HSE

    South

    Avon/Center Grove/Franklin/Franklin Central/Whiteland/Columbus North

I have a hard time seeing that. Whiteland and Franklin are fine where they are. It would be really hard to ask schools to make that drive to Columbus or vise versa. Think about Columbus to Westfield or Zionsville. Baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball matches in the middle of the week would not be fun

I dont really care about reading random thoughts about possible conference realignment.  Conference setups are strategic in nature and are very well thought out enterprises.

Lets take a look at your list :

Decatur Central - left the vast wilderness of CI and is now a solid contributing member in a very solid Mid State Conference.  Great schools.  LOw travel.  Excellent competition.  They have everything they want and need in a conference affiliation.

Perry Meridian - Somehow, PM convinced The Mid State that the Falcons would be a good addition.  It only happened because the MSC wanted an 8 school league.  They ve got it.  Perry should just keep quiet and give thanks that they landed in such a great place.

Southport - The Cards have built a nice rapport with the Indy Catholics.   They manuever back and forth between public and private school competition as well as any school in Indy.  They will land on their feet when CI finally dissolves.

Roncalli - after years of chasing after public school conference affiliation, Roncalli has retreated back to its parochial roots.  The rise of Brebeuf and Guerin has given the Rebs two more solid regular season games.  They will stay put in The Circle City, and likely welcome their friends from Southport in the near future.

Tech - I have said it before, I believe Tech's future will be in The MIC.  When there are no more Indy publics left to play sports for, Tech will be the sports magnet and they will be formidable, assuming they get the right coaching and admin support required.

New Pal - The Dragons are a victim of their own success.  Theyve played themselves out of the HHC.  Is that a permanent thing?   I could see them pursuing membership  in The Mid State.

Columbus North - CN is a crown jewel.  They are in purgatory right now in CI.  I see the HCC expanding to 10 schools, and CN will certainly get an invite when that happens, along with Center Grove.

Franklin Central - like PM, FC woke up one day in heaven and found itself in The HCC.  They should guard and protect that affiliation likke their lives depended on it.

It was only just for fun.

however there is absolutely no way Columbus North joins the HCC. Does not make sense at all. And never will Tech join a conference like the MIC. School fluctuates sizes too much.

  12. 9 minutes ago, DT said:

There will be no new conferences.  Conference Indiana will die.  Southport will join the Circle City.  Columbus North will be pursued by the Hoosier Crossroads and The Hoosier Hills.  Bloomington North and South will join the Hoosier Hills.  THN and THS will play a hybrid Indiana -Illinois schedule.  This is called Conference Contraction.  Weak conferences die.  Strong existing conferences expand and get stronger.  This is the new post Covid world we will live in.

    How about this:

    New conference with,

Decatur Central, Perry, Southport, Roncalli, Tech, New PAL, Columbus North, Franklin Central.

Mid- state picks up Bloomington North and Bloomington South.

    just for fun. Thoughts?

  13. 1 hour ago, DT said:

No comparison.  Portage has a strong football heritage and has been a long standing member of a blue blood conference for decades.

Perry has no football heritage, and has been dangling from CI for a decade before finally bolting, for the smaller Mid State

In Perry’s defense, Conference Indiana is folding. It may not be a 6A conference for football but other sports I do think it works for. Conference Indiana will eventually be defunct. I look for a new conference to be formed around the metro area.

Not sure I'd put New Pal in the top tier, especially early on.  Roughly 40% of the roster graduated with a ton of key players to replace.   Not saying the Dragons won't be a factor,  but a lot will depend on how quickly the young guys step up.

The Dragons are the champs until they get knocked off. They deserve that top tier status. However, it’ll be a lot more challenging this year for them and I think 5A will be an exciting class to see who makes it to Lucas Oil

Southport, Perry and FC all work against each other, athletically speaking.  Throw Roncalli into the mix and you have chronic competitive irregularities within this group.  PM might be ther worst 6A job in the state.  FC has a huge wall to climb in The HCC.  Southport is still in no mans land in CI.  Clearly these schools want little to do with each other as they have scattered over the past decade.

I’m just saying southport and Perry are the same school district like the other schools you mentioned. Franklin Central is a separate district, but yes I know what you mean. I don’t know if Perry is the worst job in 6A. Great paying district I might add. I do think they have a huge hill to climb and by them playing in the mid state it will definitely be more of a challenge come tournament time. However, I think they hired a good coach in Brett Cooper And if they can continue to get players out and start being competitive, that program can improve

I was speaking more in terms of why the previous coaches (along with the men's basketball coach I might add) left.  I have been pretty outspoken on here about the importance of SES and how it tends to tell more of a story than enrollment.  HSE, Fishers, CG and Zionsville all have F/R/L numbers well under 40 percent which will allow them to compete with the NC's, Warren's and BD's of the world in the future.  Those four programs (along with Avon and Brownsburg) are the future and have closed the gap (or kicked the door down completely in CG's case) in recent years and will only continue to do so.

We saw it in the regular season last year and many people (including myself) need to see it in the postseason to really get on board and believe.  Will 2020 be the year?

That’s why I feel it is important for those schools to do well in the tournament this year while Carmel is south. I’ll throw Westfield in that mix as well.

  16. 39 minutes ago, Temptation said:

Which makes the two coaching changes a head scratcher to me.  Is it money? Unrealistic expectations?  Parents?  Being Carmel’s little brother in everything?

The Hamilton Southeastern School district checks nearly every box when it comes to the capability of athletic success.

Give it time with these coaches. They were hired for a reason And have had success. You mentioned Zionsville as well and I’m curious to see that school grow. Great school district and I feel they made a great hire last year. Won a tough 6A sectional over brownsburg. That could be a place that grows into something big as well.

  17. 30 minutes ago, DT said:

HSE and Fishers remind me of several other sister schools.    THN and THS.   Franklin Central and Perry Meridian.   Bloom N and Bloom South.   Col N and Col E.   They share common resources and get equal contribution, which tends to keep them on an even keel, one never fully outpacing the other.   As a HC, I would be wary of this.   In my view, that's why Sharpe chose Noblesville.  He gets "all" the local resources.  Doesn't have to split anything with anybody.   Which makes for more upside

*southport and Perry meridian. But I get what you are saying. I do feel HSE and Fishers are different just because of pure size of the schools and the type of district compared to those others. Give these new coaches some time. They have had success and were hired for a reason.

North Central has an opportunity to help balance things out.

CG is not a mega school.

With Warren and Ben Davis in the South and Carmel and North Central in the North, you have achieved the proper level of logical balance based on school enrollment.

HSE and Fishers are getting to the point of mega schools. Enrollment is large and continuing to grow.

DTs 6A Dandy Dozen Pre Season

    1. Center Grove - overwhelming talent everywhere on the roster, in all classes.  Potentially CGs best team ever,  Next year might be even stronger.

    2. Carmel - Hounds have proven that they are now the most consistently strong of the Big 3.  They continue to set the pace in development of D1 players.

    3. Warren Central - The Warriors are not what they used to be, but extreme athletic talent in large numbers generally overcomes all else.

    4. Avon - Orioles have gotten all the hype over the past several seasons but have not delivered on the hype.

    5. Brownsburg - Seems like they have developed a habit of losing "the big game."  Need to get over the hump.  John Hart has been a wanderer over hjis career and time may be running short for him to deliver in The Burg.

    6. FW Snider - Lots of optimism heading in to this season.

    7. Homestead - Right on Sniders heels

    8. Ben Davis - The Giants are not so big and scary anymore

    9. Merrillville - Brad Seiss has the Pirates humming and loaded for bear

    10. Columbus East

    11. Penn - the slide continues in The Kingdom.

    12. North Central - Opportunity for the Panthers to show they belong in this conversation.

I personally feel you could put Lawrence North in this mix as they have some serious offensive talent for this year. However, they still need to prove they can win consistently

  20. 1 hour ago, FridayNightLights said:

I think it is CG's to lose this year. My current top 5 6A rankings going into the season would probably be:

    1.CG

    2. Brownsburg

    3. Carmel

    4/5. Warren/BD

The south will be an absolute battle this year to make the road to Lucas Oil. Whoever comes out of the north can be thankful for a year with Carmel down south.

    1. CG

    2. Brownsburg

    3. Carmel

    4. Avon

    5. Warren Central

  21. CG will get their from the south. It’s up for grabs in the north. I’ll give the upper hand to Penn and Westfield (just a hunch). I think Brownsburg is in a must win state championship situation. They have almost the amount of talent that CG does in my opinion. And they will definitely have pressure to finally get there.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the 5A Success factor status?

Valpo - bump up to 6A with a state final appearance

Dwenger - "stays up" in 5A due to 2019 Regional win, bump up to 6A with state championship

New Pal - "stays up" in 5A due 2019 Championship, bumps to 6A with Regional win

Cathedral - cannot bump up to 6A. "Stays up" in 5A with sectional championship

Columbus East - currently 6A. could "fall back" to 5A if they do not win regional in 2020

Not that this has any bearing on what happens on the field in 2020, just curious.

I think that looks about right. Valpo is also very close with their enrollment
