Oh, the HCC took a significant step forward last fall but then fell flat on its face in the postseason.

I’d pump the brakes on Fishers and HSE for this fall though anything is possible.  Coaching changes plus limited practice time due to the pandemic is a double whammy.

Asking Westfield to compete in 6A north is not that unrealistic.

DT continues to hype Noblesville and even if he’s right, it won’t happen immediately.

Avon and Brownsburg have invested so much in football these days that anything less than a trip to LOS has to be viewed as a disappointment.  They’ll continue to carry the water and be the best bet for a non MIC school (though this guy is keeping a close eye on Merrilville).

Carmel in the same sectional as Brownsburg and Avon this year. We will see what those programs can really do against a powerhouse.

I guess now that I think about it it’s sort of funny that I think 5A is intriguing because it’s a four team race when I give the same reason for the boredom of 6A.

Ben Davis, Carmel, Center Grove, Warren, rinse repeat.

I keep waiting on the HCC to breakthrough.  New hires at HSE/Fishers give me pause.

Zionsville blew it last year in the regional.

Avon/Brownsburg reaching put up or shut up territory.

I do feel the HCC is continuing to improve and get better. I think this year it’s Important for HSE, Fishers, or Westfield to reach the state finals from the north 6A while carmel is south. It’s very important for those programs and that conference for them to do so. Also with Zionsville in 5A north, they need to do well in the tournament. And they most definitely can. HCC needs to perform better in tournament play.

I think this is the most intriguing class heading in to the fall.

I could see 4 teams (Valpo, New Pal, Cathedral, Dwenger) winning it honestly.  I think the gap to tier 2 (Columbus East, Castle, Bloomington South, Decatur Central) is fairly large after those four.

    Just my opinion.

    Columbus East is 6a

  4. Off topic, but I think the Ihsaa needs to open up team activities. It can be done in guidelines. They think they are protecting everyone by not holding team events and activities, but there are numerous camps and trainers and ex coaches holding activities for players from all different areas of the state. How is this keep distancing and being safe? Not to mention no team chemistry. They aren’t practicing with players of their own team. They are socializing and practicing with players from other schools. I just am someone who is totally against that. Practice and workout with your REAL teammates.

Clearly last year was a huge disappointment, leading to a coaching change and a whole new philosophical outlook for the program.

Dave Sharpe has seen nothing but success in his coaching career.  I expect that trend to continue.  I also think that the fact that he chose Noblesville over Fishers or HSE speaks volumes about future potential.

I don’t think HSE was open until after he was named new head coach at Noblesville

How much money does it cost a school like Brownsburg to completely outfit its entire varsity squad (75 to 80???) in new world class Michael Jordan branded duds?

Any ADs out there care to take a shot?

I like Noblesville to make some quick noise in the conference.  Not much separates teams 3 thru 8 in this conference.  The Millers under new leadership might make a quick move up the ladder in year one.

They will be interesting to watch for sure. I always find this conference very competitive and very fun to watch. I also Just realized Zionsville is in 5A for the tournament.

Carroll has the potential to field their best team ever this fall. With Carmel going south, I like them to make it to semi-state this year. Snider and Homestead will test them though. Homestead has one of the best QB's in the state and Snider's just good every year. And with schools like Dwenger, Concordia, and Luers on the schedule, they should be battle tested.

I heard Homestead’s QB is not playing this year. Focusing on his other sport

  8. Staying hopeful that the season can start...I’m getting very anxious. I have seen a lot about the MIC teams for this upcoming year, but what about the HCC? How are the teams predicted to be? How do they stack up against the MIC? Any chance of a state championship appearance?

Based on the recent recruiting rankings over the past several years, BD and WC are not developing talent like they used to.

In my view, both Center Grove and Carmel have replaced the Big Two at the top of the MIC, and I expect the gap to widen based on current trends.

Reviewing classes 20, 21 and 22, WC has zero players in the 247 Indiana Top Prospects Report     BD has 1.

During this same period, CG has 5 players listed, while Carmel leads the conference with 6.

Lawrence North is surging as well, with several players listed over the 3 year period.

    https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Football/RecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=highschool&State=IN

Why are BD/WC slipping?  Lack of continuity in coaching ranks?  Problems in the feeder systems?  Kids moving out to next level suburbs?  Demographic-Socioeconomic issues impacting BD and WC more the CG and CA?

With North Central now a contender, and LN showing signs of becoming a threat, there is potentially more parity in The MIC than ever before.

It’s not all about recruits. Sure training and building players is important which I’m sure CG, Carmel, and BD, Warren do. Sometimes it’s just genetics and based on what kids are in your program at that time. Warren and BD will always be at the top and the top programs in the state. Right along with Carmel and Cg. Let’s not start getting ahead of ourselves now

  10. The 75 dress rule for tournament and state finals. I think it’s awful the larger schools cannot dress their whole team once the tournament begins. Especially for the state finals. Seeing those kids not even allowed to be out on the field during the state finals game is heart breaking and just plain ridiculous. IHSAA needs to change this badly!!

  11. To be honest, I’m getting sick to death of kids transferring or thinking and talking about transferring. Just play at the school you were supposed to play at growing up. If your family does actually happen to move for a good reason then play at the new school. This AAU basketball mentality of getting to choose where you want to play or who you want to play with makes me sick and is not how high school football should be.
