  1. I think I heard Chuck Freeby mention something about the quarterback at Adams, University of Virginia commit Ira Armstead, when discussing their selections for the Channel 46 GOTW this season. I had no idea how stellar of a junior season he had last year (he threw for over 2,200 yards, rushed for over 1,000 more all while accounting for 30 total touchdowns). I know they went 3-7 the last two seasons. Is there any chance they compete for a top 3 finish in the "North" Division?

  2. Per Chuck Freeby from Channel 46, there will be an NLC team on the Game of the Week on 5 of the 8 weeks they have scheduled (they're leaving week 9 TBD, but more likely than not it will be Penn vs. Mishawaka):

Week 1: Elkhart Memorial at Elkhart Central
    Week 2: Chatard at NorthWood
    Week 4: Northridge at Plymouth
    Week 7: Concord at Plymouth
    Week 8: NorthWood at Warsaw

NorthWood and Plymouth both getting 2 weeks, while Concord, Elkhart Memorial, Nothridge and Warsaw all getting 1 week. Only teams missing some TV time are Goshen and Wawasee, but that isn't a surprise considering last year's results.

Not that it matters, but making a prediction for the Channel 46 GOTW schedule for the 2020 season, the week 4 matchup of Mishawaka at Warsaw (assuming Mishawaka slides into Memorials schedule).

    This should go over well...

Makes the most logical (the IHSAA always pairs Fishers/HSE together in sectionals) and geographic sense. I'm shocked that they actually put Carmel in 6A South, but it's what works the best. Plus, sectionals 1, 6, 7, and 8 all remain unaffected. If Carmel had been kept in 6A North, sectionals 2-7 would have ALL been changed/affected.

How I see it (only listing sectionals that would see changes):

    2019

    2: Chesterton, Penn, Portage, Warsaw
    3: Carroll, Homestead, Noblesville, Snider

    2020

    2: Chesterton, Elkhart, Penn, Portage
    3: Carroll, Homestead, Snider, Warsaw
4: Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Noblesville, Westfield
    5: Avon, Brownsburg, Carmel, Pike

Any other scenario would result in a complete overhaul of all sectional alignments (besides Sectional 8).

As I correctly predicted in a previous thread, Warsaw will be in Sectional 2 for 2019 and Sectional 3 for 2020 but the one I hit the nail on the head...

CARMEL will be moving to 6A SOUTH in 2020 and moving to Sectional 5!

WOW - I didn't think the IHSAA would really do it, but they did!

They have to adjust 6A and 5A I think. They made a retroactive change.  Long story short they made the success factor to “stay up” 2 points instead of 3 but then only had it for winter and spring sports.

People got upset because they believed it favored some teams like cathedral. So they changed it to make all sports from this past year reflect the new points requirements.  The only issue was that sectional assignments were already released so they have to adjust for cathedral going “back to 5A”

and make the adjustment for Fort Wayne Snider to stay up in 6A. It's not just a Cathedral thing, and it is 100% the right thing. There is no sense in making a rule change and then not applying it to ALL IHSAA sports.

I doubt the IHSAA will move Carmel out if sectional 4 and risk not having two high profile Indy area schools in the title game. I could see them moving Fishers or HSE to 5 and keeping Carmel in #4. The best bets for North team this year has to be the usual suspects. Carmel and Penn as 1A & 1B, then either Snider & Westfield

The IHSAA won't do this. They'll keep Fishers & HSE together in a sectional, just like they do Perry Meridian and Southport. There's been a precedent set that they will keep Fishers & HSE together.

Now, they could very will move both schools south in 2020 and keep Carmel in the north, but you'd have to move a 2019 6A South team north. Maybe a reshuffling that would look like this for the 2020 season:

1: Crown Point, Lafayette Jeff, Lake Central, Merrillville
    2: Chesterton, Elkhart, Penn, Portage
    3: Carroll, Homestead, Snider, Warsaw
4: Carmel, Noblesville, North Central, Westfield
5: Avon, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Pike
6: Perry Meridian, Southport, Tech, Warren Central
7: Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North
8: Center Grove, Columbus East, Columbus North, Franklin Central

Makes sense. If it were to two other teams this wouldn't even be a discussion. But since it's Snider and Cathedral, they decided to implement the new rule NOW, not later. But at the end of the day, no one can argue that Snider is a 6a caliber program and Cathedral is a 5a/6a caliber program.

I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that it's Snider and Cathedral.

It has everything to do with the fact that they came out with the rule AFTER the football classifications and sectional assignments were created, but originally decided to implement it for Winter and Spring sports as mentioned previously in this thread. That does not make much sense, so the IHSAA is doing the right thing and implementing it for ALL sports starting next year.

Valpo to 5A in 2020, correct?

    Or did I miss something?

Rumor has it since the IHSAA updated the required points to "stay up" a class from 3 points to just 2 points a few weeks ago, Snider will now STAY in 6A after winning 2 sectional titles in 2017 and 2018, and thus accruing the 2 points necessary to stay up a class.

Because of this, Valparaiso will now drop to 5A based on enrollment effective the 2019 season.

Bedford North Lawrence will drop to 4A and Cathedral will move to 5A.

Lol start another topic for this information. This thread was created strictly to discuss the changes that will occur to 6A haha.

  10. With the IHSAA changing the rule from accumulating 3 points to 2 points to stay in a class, Fort Wayne Snider will now stay in Class 6A for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. This means Valparaiso will drop to class 5A starting next season. However, with the addition of Elkhart High School in the 2020 season, that now means Zionsville will drop to 5A in the 2020 season. Those 6A sectional alignments that came out a few months ago are up in the air (with the exception of Sectional 8, probably Sectional 7, and possibly Sectional 6).

The most obvious change will occur in Sectional 3, which will see the addition of Snider to Carroll and Homestead. Whether or not Warsaw or Noblesville stays with the Fort Wayne schools is yet to be seen. Warsaw makes the most sense, especially in the 2020 season once Elkhart joins 6A. But for the 2019 season, it almost makes the most sense to have Warsaw in Sectional 2 with Chesterton, Penn and Portage and then have them move to Sectional 3 in 2020 with the 3 Fort Wayne schools and have Elkhart take their spot in Sectional 2.

If this occurs, that moves Noblesville to Sectional 4... which would consist of Carmel, Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern and Westfield in 2019. In what would make the most sense, Carmel could just take Zionsville spot in Sectional 5 with Avon, Brownsburg and Pike. Would the IHSAA actually have the cojones to send the golden child Carmel to 6A South?!

How I see it (only listing sectionals that would see changes):

    2019

    2: Chesterton, Penn, Portage, Warsaw
    3: Carroll, Homestead, Noblesville, Snider

    2020

    2: Chesterton, Elkhart, Penn, Portage
    3: Carroll, Homestead, Snider, Warsaw
4: Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Noblesville, Westfield
    5: Avon, Brownsburg, Carmel, Pike

Any other scenario would result in a complete overhaul of all sectional alignments (besides Sectional 8).

    Congrats.

Wow. That appears to be a quick hire.

It was announced publicly via the Warsaw Times Union in mid-May that Dave Anson was stepping down at the end of June and that the position was posted at that time. That's 4 weeks for applicants to apply (which I'm sure there were plenty) and a few rounds of interviews to be held. Maybe slightly "quick", but I'm sure WCHS preferred that a new AD was in place before the Fall sports get into full swing with official practices starting the last week of July. Can't imagine any school corporation (especially a 6A school) would want to hire an AD much later than that!

  12. FWIW - back in I believe 2003 and 2004 seasons, Chris Kramer of Purdue basketball fame never left the field for at the time 5A Huntington North. He was an absolute stud athlete. Starting QB, played defense (I can't remember if he was a safety or linebacker), excellent punter and returned all kicks as well. Even as a 5A school (the largest class at the time), if you have an athlete like that, I say play him as much as he is able and willing.

  13. Just looking to add some content to the thread, the Warsaw Strength and Conditioning twitter account posted that the Tiger Football team saw the below average gains among those in the lifting program. I'm not sure what all athletes were including in this calculation (like whether or not players on spring sports teams, etc.)

    Average gains (lbs.)

    Squat +34

    Deadlift +46

    Bench +23

    Clean +19

    Body weight +19

Great job Tigers! Hopefully there are some continued growth in these areas the next 3 months before the season starts!

40% of the state has turf. I have accounted for all but 6 schools in the state of Indiana (Attucks, Fremont, Prairie Heights, Eastside, Tindley, and Shortridge). 11 schools don't have their own field, so they were thrown out of the equation all together. (Ev Memorial, Cathedral, Ev Mater Dei, Covenant Christian, SB Wash, FW Snider, Chatard, Ritter, Luers, Boone Grove, Scecina)

I'm like 99% positive FW Bishop Luers HAS their own field, and it's grass @btownqbcoach
