New IFCA poll - I think we're getting to the point that it's more accurate. SA dropped (rightfully so) after their loss to Heritage. I think they're still worthy of #6, though, and see them beating #10 Monroe Central this week. The biggest snub is Triton. Their only loss is against a stout 2A opponent in Laville (game was 21-14 at half). Triton has averaged about 50 ppg and is giving up around 5 ppg in their wins. They have one of the best run games in 1A and, in my opinion, they should be top 5 by the time sectional comes around. Sectional 41 will be a fun one!

    CLASS 1A

    1. Lutheran (9)
    2. Adams Central (1)
    3. Park Tudor
    4. North Judson
    5. North Decatur
    6. South Adams
    7. Carroll (Flora)
    8. Tri
    9. South Putnam
    10. Monroe Central

Others receiving votes: Triton, Covenant Christian, Edinburgh, Sheridan, Clinton Prairie, Madison-Grant, Pioneer.

we’ll see how the Monroe Central game goes but Heritage is not a good 3a team.  That was a very bad loss for SA.  Heritage vs AC will be a running clock.

This is a weird week for Sagarin.  Outside of 3A you have Cathedral ranked 1st over Brownsburg despite Brownsburg handily beating them.

inside 3A….Gibson Southern gets a score 0 for SoS playing an out of state opponent in South Warren.

just going to be weird with Sagarin having GS as the 9th best 3A team while the IFCA/AP polls will have them at either #1 or #2

Yorktown with a nice win over delta last week.

I’m surprised by the amount of people taking HN over CC. CC has looked good this year and their only loss is a 1-score game to a decent Delta team. HN’s one win is over Jay County. I’m taking CC by double digits.

Nvm… I have no idea what I’m talking about

IMO HN earned some respect with the East Noble game.  Eastbrook game doesn’t look as impressive after Oakhill took them behind them woodshed.  We’ll find out a little more about Delta this week vs Yorktown.

I'm starting to think any game in this conference that doesn't involve Norwell or Bellmont is going to be competitive.  Most teams will be in a dog fight every week which is a change from the last few years.

I got to give kudos to Huntington North, that program is definitely on the rise.  They have about 30 more kids than years past. The atmosphere at their new stadium was electric, the crowd was huge, and the student section was bigger and louder than any I've seen in the conference in the last 5ish years.  Was awesome to see!

Dekalb @ East Noble: EN's Jekyll and Hyde offense sputtered again in week 3, putting it's D in a bad position more than once, but it came through when it mattered the most.  I think they clean it up and catch a breather at home -- EN by 14.

Huntington North @ Columbia City: CC passing attack seems pretty decent and I think they put some points on the board through the air at home.  Their D-Line better be IN SHAPE and ready for HN to pound the ball over and over -- quickly-- or it could go the other way. I Think CC wins a close one at home -- CC by 6.

Leo @ New Haven: I just keep waiting for things at Leo to click, I think they're close.  Clean up some sloppiness on offense and things will be much better.  Their D has a tough challenge this week though and if they can't get to the QB they could be in trouble.  Although it's close, my gut tells me -- Leo by 3.

Norwell @ Bellmont: I just hope no-one gets hurt!

Like these picks and scores but I’d flip CC v HN.  HN by 6

Oak Hill is a very solid team.  They’re very athletic and the defense is VERY good.  Eastbrook is down this year, they are just a young team.  That’s a shame, because they have one of the best football players I’ve seen in a while.  #24 is a great player on both sides of the ball.  I don’t think Oak Hill can play with the top teams in 3A, but they will make some noise in the tournament!

Tough to get out of that sectional.

How's about everyone chip in $1 to the "Get Turf @ Bellmont" fund?

    7 of 8...  one outlier

Glad boys get to play / I get to see at least 1 game on grass this year.  No fun in the slop in the tournament but can’t beat it in Sept.  old school

New Haven 35 Dekalb 27 Too much speed

East Noble 41 Huntington N 21 Knight just better

Columbia City 49 Bellmont 7 Brave still Struggling

Norwell 27 Leo 14  Leo still learning new system

Can’t argue with picks or scores other than that I think HN may keep it a little closer than 20.

Looking forward to watching the knights at Leo.  Will be a good one.  Got Norwell 24-21

Heritage on the rise, Belmont not so much.  Heritage by 14

Busco a consistent team, Col City improving in year 2 of new offense.  Col City by 10

Dekalb returns some weapons, so does Angola. Dekalb by 3

Eastbrook always tough, Hunt North not.  Eastbrook by 21

Leo new coach/offense, Kokomo ground and pound team.  Kokomo by 10

Mylan Graham show begins against a solid Marion team. New Haven by 17

The year of the Knights?  If so, tonite starts it.  Norwell by 24

East Noble graduated ALOT. Plymouth a good gauge for the Knights.  East Noble by 28

Norwell game will be very close

  10. I watched Ole Miss vs Eastern.  I thought the returning Ole Miss team would challenge Kokomo this year with everyone coming back.  But Ole  Miss track star / starting (I assume) tailback didn’t play.  Also noticed two Mississinewa lineman from last years regional team (who would be seniors) were not on the field.  Anyone know what’s up?

Great break down.  Leo has their hands full first 3 games.  New head coach could be feeling some pressure by the time Norwell comes to town week 3.  That being said Norwell returns 20of 22 starters.  The expectation is NE8 champ.  BUT… will be a great season with bunch of great Conf games.  Preceded by trip to Ole Miss and followed by sectional featuring Delta… get through that and get treated to Chatard…. LETS PLAY 🏈

This year SHOULD be a 3 Horse race with defending champ Leo, Norwell and East Noble leading the pack. My thoughts are:

1/1A: Leo/Norwell:  I only say this because I believe defending champs have earned the right to be considered favorites until someone knocks them off there perch.  With that being said, that very well could come in week three for Leo.  Norwell UNDOUBTEDLY returns the most talent of all the NE8 teams this season.  Best lineman in conference (Bolyn), check....best RB in conference (Graft) check, best returning defensive unit (scoring), check.  BUT....Norwell's achilles heel in the past few years has been the Lions and they have had a VERY difficult time putting points on the board against Leo.  Will that change with a completely new staff and offensive/defensive system for the Lions? Lions lose possibly the MOST talent to graduation in Livingston (WVU), Allen (Rutgers), Sheron (Davidson) and Crawford (Illinois St).  They will need to replace their defensive line and 3/5 of their offensive line.  They do return , I believe, the #2 lineman in the conference in Colin Butler as well as Lb's Baker and Holcomb, DB/WR Zeisloft and, possibly their most important piece 2 way starter Ethan Crawford.  This guy, though,  is not sold on the Lions being successful in a spread offense right away. There may have been a reason the Lions ran a power running attack under Coach Sauder the last few years.  Who's their QB is a question that needs to be answered and answered quickly.  NE8 title implications get much clearer after week 3.

    3. East Noble:  The Knights will ALWAYS be in the race for a conference title based on their coaching staff and consistent talent level coach Amstutz develops in Kendalville.  He is an offensive mastermind when it comes to finding holes in a defense and putting his offensive playmakers in a position to make plays.  This year he will need to find new playmakers for his 2nd year QB (Brazel) to get the ball to. The Knights lost a LOAD of offensive talent in Zolman, Munson, Carrico, Christian and bigs Hood and Charles.  Some new faces will need to grow up fast with back to back games against Leo and Norwell in weeks 5 & 6.  Expect East Noble to be very much in the conference race going into the week 6 matchup with Norwell.....

    4. New Haven: The Bulldogs will, more often than not, have some of the most athletic teams in the conference still feeding off the closing of Harding and absorbing the majority of those kids.  They may also have the top overall player in the NE8 this year in Mylan Graham who has absolutely blown up on the recruiting trail this spring/summer.  Their most glaring weakness is their offensive and defensive lines.  If they EVER want to be a serious title contender these areas MUST get better for the Dawgs.  A new QB (NorthSide transfer) could help the post Jakar Williams era and keep the aerial attack a threat for Coach Booher's team this year.  New DC in coach Mullen could add a little fire/spark for this year.  Big Match-up with Leo in week 4 looms early.

5/6.  Columbia City/Dekalb:  these spots could be interchangeable in my eyes.  Columbia City has been a team on the brink for more than a couple years now While Dekalb has been up and down but, I believe, they return the best QB in the NE8 in Tegan Irk.  Col City enters the post Gregory Bolt era, which has felt like 10 yrs, into a new running attack scheme resembling Coach Adamson's wing T attack at Eastbrook...makes sense since Coach Fox has history there.  Biggest question mark is how will the Eagles incorporate young stud receiver Statton Fuller in this run heavy scheme? Expect the Eagles to get better in their new run first schem scheme in its second year.  Dekalb's Irk will have able bodied WR Donnie Wiley to throw to along with Logan Motoya (50 ypg).  Mitch Snyder returns in the running game (60 ypg). The Barons return their top 3 scorers but graduated their top 3 tacklers.  Dekalb is a program to keep your eye on in a couple years with successful classes on the horizon....

    7.  Huntington North: this is a program that HAS to get better isn't it?  New facilities on the way and a more than able leader in Coach Prescott the Vikings seem to have good numbers and size on their roster the last few years.  Losing top RB last year to Luers definately didn't get the season off to a good start.  They lose, well, they lost alot in their top 2 rushers and receivers and dual threat QB.  Could be another long season for the Vikings.

    8. Belmont: Coach Hall begins his 3rd season at the helm for his alma mater Braves.  The Braves return top rusher Issaac Bodkins in their triple option attack. but graduated QB Ulman who ran the option.  They did steal a win from Dekalb last year and may steal another win this year from someone over looking them.  Nevertheless, I just can't see the Braves making too much noise if any this year.

Great break down.  Leo has their hands full first 3 games.  New head coach could be feeling some pressure by the time Norwell comes to town week 3.  That being said Norwell returns 19 of 21 starters.  The expectation is NE8 champ.  BUT… will be a great season with bunch of great Conf games.  Preceded by trip to Ole Miss and followed by sectional featuring Delta… get through that and get treated to Chatard….
