2024 6A Who can win it all?

100% agree. I don't understand why Penn struggles with producing D1 players more consistently. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. -

Give him 10 years to suffer through all the success factor stuff and He will be winning 6A titles in no time. He may be in a wheel chair or hooked up to a machine by that point, but he will be winning nonetheless. -

Sure. All Schools should be humble. You never know when a Friday night could be your turn for a 50 point massacre. I made a T-shirt in High School directed at how much we (Penn) does not like our cross town rivals at Mishawaka...I put at the bottom, that it isn't about the numbers we are just better than you....not so humble...but we had not lost to Mishawaka in over 30 years at the time. In this specific case, numbers 100% help us, but at the same time top to bottom we were better than them. Coaching, training staff and players were all better than our counter parts. -

Carmel appears to be going through a stretch where either: coaching is going stale, buy in is at an all time low, complacency has worked into the program or top players are not playing football. I don't pay enough attention to how many D1 level players they are producing, to have a valid opinion on the state of affairs down there, but I think their current problem lies beyond numbers. When Carmel figures this out, they will be winning sectionals again, and likely retake their spot on top of 6A North. Eliminate CG from the overall conversation, what Moore has done there is develop an empire. It will eventually come to an end, but for this situation, set them aside. Who made regionals in the south & north last year? Ben Davis (#2 enrollment), Warren (#3 enrollment), Center Grove & Cathedral and in the north Penn (#6 enrollment), CP, Westfield & HSE (#8 enrollment) 50% of the schools competing at this point are still of the larger enrollment schools in the state 3400 +. They may not win state each year anymore, yes because other schools have grown up and decreased the enrollment gap which has injected depth and talent into these programs....but the biggest schools are still moving on. When BD, Carmel, Warren, Penn etc. are all not winning sectionals on a regular basis then I think we talk say 6A has reached parity. Then we just need to get a team from the true north to close the gap and win the entire thing again. There is only 1 school in the top ten in enrollment from the true north...Penn. Does Carroll or CP need to crack the top 10 to have a chance at a win at state, or is the true north stuck playing second and third fiddles? (I only included those schools because they will consistently be in 6A for the foreseeable future.) -

It isn't so much what people think, but the harsh realization that we aren't as relevant any more. We don't have that impact on old 5A and now 6A that we used to have. Semi-state in the north ran through Penn and Carmel for the longest time. If you got through them you were probably worthy of being the North representative. Now, it is just hope and pray we keep it close. -

I am hoping the additions to the coaching staff under Coach Pete can help modernize the offense. Over the past decade the O has become so predictable, in some games only running a handful of plays out of a single formation. I would even take an aggressive down hill running scheme that utilizes traps and some misdirection vs our zone running that we have been doing the last decade or so. We need to be able to diversify our formations and stretch defenses on the outside to keep teams off balance. That has not been the case. I think Pete is going to bring a modern flare to the Kingsmen, I just hope we can find a way to get more big time schools on the schedule so when we come up against CP, Carroll etc. in playoffs we are prepared for those games. I am cautiously optimistic for this season. Knowing we play one of the weakest schedules in 6A, will we be ready for the size and strength of CP in sectionals. If we can win that game, I think then there is a good chance we will compete with Snider or Carroll, but we need to start off the right way and beat Valpo week 1. -

Just disenchanted with this process. We look strong and then crap the bed, get roasted on this board for having like 5 of the worst losses in state finals history. It is getting old. Yes I long for the era of Geez to come back, but it isn't, so I have resorted to just understanding a top level state title will be a long shot until the day I die....which I am only 35. -

Maybe for bigger games where the schools they are playing may bring more fans they will move it to the bigger stadium. But, even then, teams like Penn don't travel like they used to. Hell the students hardly come to the home games. TAKE THE MONEY!!! You are a public school, take all the financial assistance you can. Good gravy. -

I would rather be Cathedral and have a long year, than be Penn go undefeated and get beat in sectionals. -

From my seat it feels like he came to develop a culture and a successor at the same time. I think he sticks it out 3-5 more seasons, especially if he is developing his replacement. But, if he is already having health scares, the mrs. may have something to say about it. -

Crown Point's defensive backs made Penn look like an air threat. Penn threw for 300+ yards against them. But, yes BD was beyond CP. -

Rodney, wouldn't the answer be about 10+ years because of the success factor rules. -

Did this get him banned from the thread? This is unnecessary. I got banned from a thread because I got heated about politics...calling someone a pos because he pointed out that he was either deliberately not reading the responses or just wanted to be a contrarian....either way, not cool and not welcomed. -

I have been away from the site for a couple months, so when I saw this 13 page thread going, I had to catch up. Just feels like he thought he had the high ground in the argument and would not "give it up." I think over the years we have all just commonly agreed that state runs through the big schools in Indy. How or why, does it even matter anymore? Enrollment, feeder program blah blah blah. -

Too be fair Snider would have given Ben Davis a better game than Crown Point did last year. -

Same could be said from Penn's perspective, last title was the 2000 season against CG, 24 years and the closest we have been was a lopsided 12 point loss to CG almost ten years ago. Haven't even competed for a semi-state title sine 2017.... -

Cathedral and Brownsburg will consume most of that percentage. Followed by HSE and Fishers who is followed by Carroll Snider and CP. The rest are unless the season proves us all wrong, mathematically just playing for participation trophies.. -

In that situation, If I am student A, I would look for a smaller school in my area and go there. If you are second string at a Penn size school you will likely start at a 2 or 3A school. Depth at those levels hurts. Which then turns you into Student B, and the cycle continues. -
If I am not mistaken he played QB for Penn back in the Mid 2000s. I think he played in the Elkhart Memorial sectional championship and Merrillville game for Keim after he broke his hand in the sectional semi vs Mishawaka. He may have been the starter in the 2007 season. But, I have been wrong before. Not sure my memory is serving me well.
