Don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it in a thread....
Blake Fisher has committed to Notre Dame. Very nice pick up for the Irish

Now correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't Illinois Michigan and Ohio do their tournaments that way? Indiana use to be that way back in the 1970s.
# of schools with football in Illinois: 564
# of schools with football in Michigan: 556
# of schools with football in Ohio: 732
# of schools with football in Indiana: 338
Im sure these numbers are not exactly right as there has been consolidation and some schools stopped fielding teams....I pulled these numbers from max preps

As far as I’m personally aware....Jack Kiser was the only one who played LB....QBs are generally one of the most athletic kids on the team so if I see a QB playing both ways, they are a DB...
with that said, it all depends on numbers for the game and situation. I see a lot of late game qb plays DB (if they are fast)

If I missed this I am sorry but is this for ALL sports or just football? Info is getting buried in this thread and I can't keep up.
All sports by all accounts.
Jasper and VL are joining the SIAC in all sports which would leave 4 teams for the BIG8. Boonville apparently considered going independent over joining the SIAC.
Im not sure if any of the other sports will do divisions or just football

Sounds like Boonville feels it has a better chance to compete for PAC title than competing with bottom half of SIAC. Just crazy IMO!!
That article suggests that there will be 2 crossover games....with 1 being week 9 as a battle of division champs all the way down to 6th.
i certainly support having the division winners face each other. But I wouldn’t want 2 games. Would create the possibility of facing the same team 2 times in the same season. Should just be week 9: 1v1 2v2 3v3 and so on.
Let the schools choose who they play. If they want to play a team in the other division so be it...but don’t force them to do as such

For GS this may work out better than perceived initially
boonville (4A) Princeton, Mt Vernon, Washington, Heritage Hills (3A) in conference. Out of conference Southport (6A) Southridge (2A, but playing in 3A) and the potential to have Henderson County/New Albany/Bloomington South/possibly others
thats a pretty good shake imo

How long is southports contract? I thought it was 2 years. But I could just be making things up.

Will be interesting to see how this vote goes.....1 of 2 things will happen
1) this thread blows up because it was passed and we debate this for the next 5 years
2) we come back next year for the 6th year in a row I believe and talk about if it will ever happen
Well we have an answer. And I’m sure we will debate this conference shake up including the SIAC shake up for 5 years

The Hoosier conference has 10 teams. You play a 4 game conference schedule and then on week 9 you play against the same team in your standings spot ie. if you are 3rd place in your group of 5, you play the other group of 5 3rd place.
North Central conference has 10 teams and plays a 7 game conference schedule with 2 non-con games. I believe all the teams have start conference play on week 3.
Northeast Corner has 10 teams, and i really cant tell you how they decide their conference schedule other than they each play 4 conference games.
The Summit(FW) has 10 teams and play a full conference schedule.
Three Rivers has 10 teams and plays 8 conference games.
I did some looking and it was the Summit or SAC that I was referring to. There is an older thread on here about it...essentially though they are saying that “teams” want to better prepare for the playoffs with out of conference games. But a few members there are saying it’s pretty much just snider, the largest school.
fort Wayne and Evansville are very comparable cities in many aspects so I find this even more interesting

First off I thought Jasper went to them? What I'm asking is for someone in the SIAC to explain how this made the conference better? You have higher costs, and no flexibility in football. You have student athletes that will have alot of late nite weekday games in conference. I'm not trying to be disrespectful at all. Just asking for concrete reasons. If it was 12, and you had two divisions, plus real rivalry games with Jasper keeping Southridge and HH, or Boonville playing Castle I could see benefits financially. GS playing Reitz or MD would have been moneymakers. This setup created nothing like that. Congrats and good luck!
Butkus has a bit of fire to his takes, but I like it!
I think what he is saying the SIAC already knows, just a few fans don’t agree with. The SIAC did amend their bylaws to have a total of 12 teams.
If I’m not mistaken too, there is a conference in northern Indiana (I think the south bend area) where they have 10 schools and their football schedule has 0 out of conference games. I believe they were talking about (or already did) making changes to allow non conference games because they feel like it is restricting. The SIAC at 12 gives all the flexibility and locality to scheduling. At 10, you just play your conference schedule

Any news of boonville or another team willing to join the SIAC or is it still a mess

When I mean add two more week I mean start early. For instance this year the season starts August 24 move the start to August 9
I’m still up for moving it sooner. Just don’t want more games necessarily. Everyone gets to play a playoff game so it’s realistically a 10 games season and 15 if you make it to state. Those are good numbers
the only issue that may come from playing a few weeks earlier is the heat. Especially for southern Indiana.

I personally think 15 games (if you make it to the finals) is a great number. Would not be in favor of extending it further.
As for thanksgiving weekend....I’m personally not a fan of having it the day after thanksgiving but! But, it’s practically a sure fire day/weekend to have all the friends and family available to go and watch their team play for the title.
If there was a push for a bye week, I say just have the season start 1 week earlier

The PAC is absolutely killing it this year for softball
Heritage Hills, Tecumseh, and Gibson Southern are all in semi state

Enough about whos going where, whos staying put in the future. Lets start talking about 2019. Who wins 2019 SIAC, PAC snd the Big 8 for the last time?
SIAC is Castle Reitz and central???? Idk. Lots of whispers of castle but that’s every year it seems
BIG8 is VL, Jasper. I’ll give the nod to VL.
PAC I think is firmly a Heritage Hills Gibson Southern race....normally I would say Southridge too but I think I recall reading that Montgomery for Southridge is focusing on only baseball now. Kid is a 3 sport athlete but I think if memory serves me correct that he has the potential to be a major baseball prospect.

Washington brings zero to the table for the SIAC and the football field is flat-out dangerous.
Every year for the playoffs teams voice their concerns over that field or moving it to another site. Are there any plans in the near near future to update the field?

The SIAC didn’t really need any teams to join. IMO Jasper along with VL or GS would have been fine with me. I’m not buying for 1 second GS offers more in terms of overall athletic appeal than VL.
......if Gibson Southern was only girls sports they would still be better overall for athletics than VL for both boys/girls sports lol

That may be true but that is not going to keep them from scheduling SIAC teams for Basketball. This is just my opinion but a 4a school that would rather play in a conference with all schools much smaller is afraid of the compitition they will have to face especially football. This is a great topic because of the past talk from the Big 8 snd PAC about not getting any respect from the SIAC and you finally get your chance and you walk away ftom it. The state of Indiana is unique because it does not matter how you do in the conference beacuse every team in every sport gets a sevond chance in the tournament, so why wouldnt you try to play the best compitition you can during the season to get you ready for that second chance.
This guy gets it.
Year after year we hear about the BIG8/PAC sos and the teams have mostly tried to make the best of it. But how can you pass an opportunity like this up.
The SIAC is giving you 1/2 of the normal scheduled games and giving you 4 weeks to keep your rivalries in place, play other schools outside the area, or play schools in the other division.
they pretty much gave teams no reason to turn it down other than they have to play larger schools who are typically much more competitive.

Sounds like the majority thinks GS should have gotten the offer to join the SIAC before Lincoln. Did a little research. Going back to the 2012 season, Harts first year at GS. No one doubting the Jasper choice.
GS overall 76-12. 18-7 playoff record. 3-0 vs Lincoln. 3-3 vs Memorial
Lincoln overall 43-30. 4-7 playoff record. 0-2 vs Memorial
I’m not saying VL isn’t worthy. They are a solid school....but the SIAC is going to drive right by GS every time they go to play in Vincennes lol

It’s gonna be interesting when someone new to the forum comes on here later this year and in the future and says
”Gibson southern should play tougher competition” and the GS fans reply
“We tried!!! We really did!”

I personally dont think the SIAC got that much better with the addition of Jasper and Vinn. It just got eaiser on the Athletic Directors in reguards to scheduling. SIAC would have still been one of the best conferances south of Indy without the addition. Speaking from a selffish aspect I sure would have loved seeing the kid from GS playing in the SIAC his last two years of high school if he is as good as the say he is.
I think a lot of people were wanting to see that too. As per collegefootballtoday Brady is ranked as the #1 QB and #13 overall for the class of 2022. It’s still early though and rankings are always changing.
But I don’t think anyone in the Evansville area is going to miss out on seeing him play. GS has been getting plenty of publicity/coverage since 2012

Leave the PAC like it is. These small schools dont wan’t a 4a school in there conference especially in football. Didn’t GS drop Boonville a few years ago so they could schedule better competition. Boonville needs to step up and play the big boys in football, they are most likley playing them in all the other sports.
GS did. I believe we dropped them after 2014 and replaced them with Henderson County who is now being replaced this year and next with Southport

Dang dude....someone hit the booze harder than me last night and seemingly tried sleeping with a badger too 😂 talk about having a bad attitude
in short for GS...yes would have liked to join SIAC...didn’t happen oh well time to move on....PAC is beefed up slightly....it not the SIAC (clearly you’re a genius because only you would understand that the SIAC is and will always be the best conference in the area) I mean you just have that next level analysis making points NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD!!! Wow. 😊
GS’s schedule is better...bottom line...have plenty of flexibility...and yes, many teams would like to play GS....because of the team is pretty good (whether you like it or not) and the fans are willing to travel by the masses....so lots of money to be made for road games.
be sure to down a few more shots and get all angry at me when you go to respond to this 😂
