  1. Btw. If anyone is curious about the voting....

    Class A – Kiser 10, Bell 0

    Class 2A – Kiser 9, Bell 1

    Class 3A – Bell 4, Kiser 1

    Class 4A – Kiser 3, Bell 3

    Class 5A – Kiser 3, Bell 3

    Class 6A – Bell 6, Kiser 4

bell barely won his own 6A class.

Bell is an outstanding athlete and Everyone nominated was deserving of being named Mr. Football.....but let’s not get this confused with coaches being biased. The voting clearly shows Kiser had the support from all divisions except 3A

David Bell was the best player in the State hands down!! Now Kizer going to Notre Dame is no accident the kid could ball and if had been any other player outside the MIC Kizer would have got my vote. The MIC top to bottom is the best conference in the State some even view it as one of the best in the Midwest. for that kid not to win Mr. Football was a crime. I am glad they are proposing a change in the voting process, in my opinion, you can blame the 1A and 2A coaches who voted it was clearly a bias towards the small school athlete.

So lemme get this straight. If a small school coach votes for a small school player it’s biased...but if a big school coach votes for a big school player it’s not?

  3. Pffff.  Jack Kiser absolutely deserved to be named Mr. Football. Kid never really left the field and played lights out.

if there was ever a chance for a 1A player to win it, it was Jack....

No 3A player has ever been named Mr. Football I believe and I think only 1 2A has been named....that being Jaylon Smith who is a star Linebacker for the cowboys.

26/27 years of Mr football....2 were for small schools.  1 of those 2 has proven to be one of the best linebackers.

gimme a break *steps down off soap box*

sighs*. Some of y’all schools need to chill with being entitled to awards and what not.

Absolutely not! I think any school that has a good feeder program is most likely getting good results. Any good HC is deeply involved in their feeder program. Wins and losses by feeder teams have zero impact on varsity football. JMO. Just hard to imagine a person can look at 5th grade football and know that’s a “grab your popcorn” group.

Depending on when T32s oldest child first started TYFL, T32 has probably seen 90% of the kids to play for GS over the last 10-15 years at all levels.  Sure might be hard to imagine but if anyone knows how success in the younger levels translates to Friday nights it’s him.

Shoot, I ask T32 sometimes how my own brother is doing since I moved away 😂

Don't have a dog in this fight, but it sure does make an interesting thread. As we are trained to say in the financial business, past results are not an indicator of future success. Would that every school had the enthusiastic community support that GS enjoys.

I think most people here can agree that GS has a great community backing of its program. Without that support the team would never have made it this far and the support is one of the reasons Hart decided to take the GS job and more importantly KEEP the GS job.  From everything I have read in papers and heard, he absolutely loves the community.

I think you missed the boat on this one.  The GS folks I know and work with said it was a foregone conclusion when the Allen kid was in 8th grade that he would start as a frosh.  Heard he won the job a couple weeks after the first summer workouts started and was the guy all through 7on7 season.  That’s impressive! Most freshman only get the chance out of necessity of injury.

The cool thing I heard was Coach Hart went to each senior to get their input before announcing his decision.  Apparently they all voted yes.  Have to make sure the whole locker room was behind the young QB knowing there was going to be early season setbacks.

I just hope Colson is back out this year.  Love to see these 2 battle it out the next 2 years.

What’s bad is I should have known considering my brother is the year below brady, playing linebacker. So it’s not like I haven’t seen him play before lol.

I never heard that about coach hart. That is really cool that he went to the seniors.  Just another reason Coach Hart has the complete support of the Gibson Southern community. Everyone supports him

as for Colson, I heard he wasn’t playing. Was going to focus on baseball

  7. Personally, at least from what I have seen, I have noticed that a lot of kids get their license as soon as they possibly can when they may not be ready for it. I think there is incredible pressure these days for a kid to have their license by the time they turn 16.  If it’s not after school obligations they have, it’s a job they have to travel to. Besides all of this, it’s looked down upon to ride the bus as an upperclassmen or not have a car already.

Bottomline, I just can’t help but think we are rushing many of these young kids into responsibilities they are not fully ready for....that’s not to say some of them are not ready, as I have seen plenty of kids more responsible than young adults my age.

In no way am I saying any of these tragic deaths are a result of this, I’m only saying we, as a whole, should look to understand that not everyone matures the same and let these kids know they don’t have to get their license at the youngest possible age.  It’s okay if they wait until 16 to get their permit and it’s okay if they get their probationary license at 18.

  8. I’m honestly starting to like the idea of all teams dropping the idea of keeping everything they want and just move to a free for all. Make 2 new conferences for football that have no ties to each other...if you wish to keep an opponent work out a non conference game...

I’m just in the mindset that if it can’t be done simply, start from scratch and make it simple

No doubt, sounds like he is one of the top players, but that doesnt change the recruiting process. All I can figure is that schools must still be able to verbally offer kids prior to the the completion of their junior year.

I did some thumbing around on the internet because I was curious too and this is probably the best thing I have found regarding the concept of early recruiting

There has to be something Im missing with these new rules. Ive only had the opportunity to coach a handful D1 athletes in the last 20 years, the last one a couple years ago and the process was less complicated. When I was told about their new restrictions, I wondered how to go about getting attention started with an underclassman. Even a lot of the invite camps are being restricted to Juniors and seniors now.

Well I’m not exactly sure about the underclassmen you have worked with and work with but I think many familiar with Brady Allen understand he is likely the exception.

i recall arguing with some fellow GS posters a few years ago when on came on here and said something along the lines of “Look for the name Brady Allen. I guarantee you he starts for Gibson Southern as a freshman” I recall arguing that there was no way Coach Hart starts a freshman QB when there are others who already know the system and will be upperclassmen. Off the top of my head I can only think of 4/5 players in the the past 8 years who started as freshman and all 4 were the class of 2016 playing their final high school season in 2015.

None the less, when Brady got the nod (of which he had to battle an extra 3 weeks in the offseason to get that spot over Delong) it made the papers and news stations....since then the buzz has only grown after finishing the season with 2400 yards, 29 TDs vs 4 Ints along with 4 rushing TDs.

Its rather hard to explain and compare Brady’s situation to what your players may be experiencing but I think Brady is an exception among typical experiences and truthfully I think there is just something special about this this young gunslinger.

Who are the 4 current offers from?  I know there will be plenty more to come!

    Indiana was the first.

    Then Virginia tech

the. Purdue and Cincy on the same day.

Visits wise:  Ohio state twice, Michigan St twice I believe,  and then I think he attended some team camps for Other P5 conference teams.

If if memory serves me right, there are a lot of P5 schools following him on twitter keeping tabs on him.  I know there is a lot of chatter among some of the Notre Dame fan base about him and wanted the Irish to extend an offer but he is so young still that the best schools in the country will likely wait.

  12. I personally am not on the Tony Lewis hype train. Don’t really have too many feeling regarding him but I’m just not on that train.

as for jasper as a team...idk. I think more than anything I feel like the other teams around jasper are already trending in the right direction already. A case of having momentum already.

I really shouldn’t continue arguing this just due to a lack of information about big 8 teams but something inside me tells me Vincennes is going to be better over the next 10 years than jasper.  Pure gut feeling

  13. Woah never said HH ship has sailed. Only saying that the PAC has done its best to prove it doesn’t always need a tough SOS to have great success.

As for the chatard game, a lot of the grid will say weather is the only thing that stop GS from making it to LOS. Other than that, that team proved that SoS isn’t as important as having a quality team top to bottom.

I think you are getting bent out of shape with my comment about jasper. But it’s okay if you disagree. I just personally feel that jasper would benefit more from filling its schedule with non conference games.  I am past all this though. Not really something I want to argue for or against. Just an opinion of mine ya know?
