Tippy Valley to Sec 35 replacing Luers
Peru moves from 27 to 26 to replace Tippy Valley
Luers to Sec 27 to replace Peru
Cancel the meeting, I got it for you.

Seems pretty simple that Tippy Valley moves down and FW Luers moves up. And a couple sectionals in the north get shuffled around. Am I missing something?

Sorry, but I don't see New Albany or Bloomington South driving across the state to play a 3A school week #1. I find it more likely they would schedule each other. New Albany week #2 might be possible. Bet I would say a longshot.

Vincennes Lincoln, Washington, Pike Central have 2.5+ hour drive to Edgewood
It’s 1:30 from Vincennes. 1:15 from Petersburg and 1 hour from Washington. All on I-69. You can probably crank the bus up to 70mph too.

4 years ago when Guerin, Brebeuf and Chatard were lumped into the same sectional (28) for the first time, I was pretty worked up about it and was convinced that the alignment was gerrymandered. Was so ticked off that I went and did research about fair ways to district sectionals. It turns out that there is a lot more research in drawing boundaries for election voting districts and it's the same issue... how do you break voters (or schools in this case) into into evenly divided geographic areas without letting politics or bias creep into the process.
Not to get too nerdy, but I discovered in voting districts a lot of research supports the a method called "Splitline Districting". The method is described here:
https://rangevoting.org/SplitLR.html
For example, here's a comparison of the best ways to divide voting districts in Indiana (current vs splitline method).
Anywho... back at the time, I spent a couple of hours figuring out the (fair) splitline method to do 3A sectional alignment... and discovered that alignment that IHSAA came up with only had two minor differences from my method. The map that I assumed was wildly UNFAIR was actually pretty fair and splitline would have put Guerin, Brebeuf and Chatard into the same sectional that the IHSAA did. I wrote an article about it at the time and got a lot of hits and comments on that.
I will say though... I'm REALLLLLLLYYYYYY confused that Tri-West Hendricks is in a Southern Indiana sectional (29) and Chatard is in a Northern Sectional (28). The most basic division of a fair alignment method is the north/south line. That line should run straight EAST<->WEST through the middle of Indiana and divide 32 northern teams from 32 southern teams.
Here are the GPS coordinates of Chatard HS:
39.8618038 N 86.128051 WHere are the GPS coordinates of Tri-West Hendricks HS:
39.877131 N 86.5442741 WSo....
Chartard is in a northern sectional (#28) but geographically should be in the south.
Tri-West Hendricks is in a southern sectional (#29) but geographically should be in the north. This would appear to be a "fail" at the most basic level and makes me question the faith that I developed in the process last time.
That’s some tough luck! I guess those teams will have to work harder and get better.
It really could have went either way, as I posted somewhere in this thread. But I really don’t see a problem with who is on the committees. It takes all 3 people to agree, plus the board has to approve it. It could also be noted that Cathedral Coach/AD Rick Streiff was on the 4A committee. No conflict there!
-
Sectional 28 could have been even more stacked if you swap Tri-West and Ritter for Crawfordsville and North Montgomery. One could argue that it would have made more sense.

How many referees for an 8 man football game? 2? 3? If they are serious about this they need to find a small school conference/group to get it started. Loogootee, Bloomfield, Orleans, Barr Reeve, Shoals, NE Dubois would be a good place to start. Only need 16-20 kids for a team.
-
Is it possible that Barr Reeve/Bloomfield brings more people than Ben Davis/Center Grove?

Crawfordsville has a new coach pending school board approval. Story in Crawfordsville Journal Review.

So you think Tri-West is more likely to go North into 28 than Chatard? Could be, just interested in your thoughts there?
Tri-West has only gone North one time in 1A 1991 & 1992. I vote for Chatard to go North. It will be up to the 3A committee. Hopeful there's no one from the 3A North or West Lafayette on it. Put them in the "Region" sectional. They can hop on I-65 after school and be there by kickoff. State cops can escort them before they guard the tailgate party.

I've seen a lot of football but IMO. The best programs have a great gameday environment. Heritage Hills and Brownstown would be at or near the top. Evansville Mater Dei or Reitz in the bowl is a great atmosphere. Pioneer surely has a great environment and I've heard Linton is lit on Friday nights. I would consider all of these Premier jobs because the fan bases are very good.

Any guess that has Roncalli and Cathedral is different sectionals is wrong!
-
Youth & Jr High programs need a major overhaul. Can be done with the right people in place.
-
Any word out of Crawfordsville? Interviews have been over for month.
-
Small division of Big 8/PAC would be perfect. You can’t compete with Heritage Hills, Jasper, and Gibson Southern but maybe one out of 10 years. The MIC has a lot of dead weight. Owen Valley, Brown County, Cloverdale, are historically not good programs. I’m not sure about travel concerns, but IMO the Big8/PAC small division would be better.
-
What about the small school division of the possible Big 8/Pocket merger. It would be much better than the WIC.
-
Noblesville! Competitive in most every game last year. Went toe to toe with Avon and Brownsburg at the end of season. Starting out with Cathedral and Carmel is pretty brutal.

Webo will need some receivers to step up. Other than Kernodle, they lose the rest. Cortez and Hole will probably have to go both ways. On defense, obviously Weakley will be tough replace along with Deetz and Shallenbarger.
Danville will have to figure out who is QB. Stevens will be a junior and he was solid on the JV. They’ll have Schubert at RB. They return some youth on defense with Wooten and Dutra. They lose 3 good Offensive linemen.
Tri-West will need to figure out the OL situation. Lost 3 starters and a backup to graduation. Replacing Van Slyke and his production will be difficult. I’m guessing Hendershot will fill some of that role. Defense should be set. Lost 2 starting safeties. But lots of experience returning on D. Ross, Cora, West, Covey, Depinet, Saylor, Catt, Hogan all returning starters.
Not sure on rest of conference.
-
Offseason discussion starts here. Can Danville get back on track? Can Tri-West build off of last year? Can WEBO repeat? Who will be new coach at Crawfordsville? Frankfort will have a 2nd year coach for the first time in awhile. Thoughts?

Who are the largest schools NOT playing football?
Luers to remain in 3A?

If Greencastle does move down, Crawfordsville replaces them in Sectional 29. FW Luers to Sectional 27. Northwestern to Sectional 28 to replace C-ville. There better be a good explanation if they skip over 3 schools to move Greencastle down.
