Things were going well for LCC football in the 1960's. In 1969 LCC went 10-0.

LCC had some average years in the early 1970's, but won state in 1976.
How bad was it for LCC in the early 1980's?
In 1981 Keith Lehnen was the coach and there was about 300 students at LCC. There was only about 30 players on the 1981 team and LCC had just joined the Hoosier Conference again in 1980. They had to play WL, Harrison, and McCutcheon. Coach Lehnen had concerns about whether football might die out at LCC. The Freshman team only had 13 players in 1981. Here are the names of some of the Football players on the 1981 team.
Tim Metzinger
Shawn Hamilton
Jim Bollock
Truong Ngugen
Doug Schrader
Doug Grupenhoff
Chris Anderson
Tim Gates
J.R. Porter
Jeff Deerr
Ted Dudzinski
Bill Bullock
Jerome LaReau
Steve Hannon
LCC went 5-5 in 1981, and only won 3 games the next 3 years. Two of the 3 wins were against Seeger. A football program can go from good to bad in just a few years.

What a disappointing weekend in terms of competitiveness.
The weekend went about how I thought it would, except for 2A and 5A. I didn't think Luers would win by that many points. LCC's 28-7 loss to Luers doesn't look that bad, now.

It was a Tie? DNP? Ccd? Forfeit?
The game ended in a 0-0 tie. The 2nd half was never played.

In 1983 the Frankfort/Clinton Prairie game was called at the half after 2 Frankfort players were taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion. The score of the game was 0-0 at the half.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion one way or the other. I think Adams Central, Luers, and Snider win for the North. Kind of funny, seems like alot of people think North Posey will whip Luers. Just like I said about Snider, Luers has played a schedule full of of 4A, 5A, and 6A teams and NP will show them nothing they haven’t seen from much better teams than NP. Maybe NP beats Luers, but it will not be a blowout
I know LCC thinks Luers has a good team.

Really?? Snider will be the best team DC has played this year by a good margin and I am absolutely positive nobody from Snider has said anything negative about DC. Having said that, DC is not the best team Snider has played this year and I can assure you, they have played teams bigger, stronger, and faster than DC. Snider will come ready to play
I never said DC would win the game. I know many people up north want Snider to win, because if they don't it might be a clean sweep for teams south of Lafayette, just like in 2020. Many people on here think Ben Davis, East Central, Chatard, North Posey and Lutheran are going to win. It looks like its up to Snider

???
I cant even come up with something to say
Go snider?
Snider is not going to think DC is boring after they play them.

And yet it's happened already and no one complained about it or disagreed more with it or considered it stupid a decade ago.
The question to ask, to determine the spirit of things is, would AC, in its current form, be able to win sectionals in the average 2A sectional ... let's currently ignore the potential that they could end up in a sectional with Luers. If the answer is "yes," then we're really only quibbling about small details because the general consensus is, if you can win a sectional each year in a class in which you got bumped into, then you deserve to stay up ... although the IHSAA, erroneously IMO, just recently changed their minds again on that. Nonetheless, I suspect if you polled the site, most folks are OK with their OWN PROGRAM abiding by that idea; two sectionals or more and stay up.
I considered it stupid a decade ago. I said the SF was the dumbest thing the IHSAA had done since they went to class basketball. I don't think the IHSAA wanted to have a SF, but they felt they had to because LCC and Luers had both just finished winning state 4 years in a row. The way the SF is set up now, it could ruin your program. I don't think it helped Pioneer very much.

We did something similar when basketball went to a Class tournament. Tournament of Champions! Sounded like a great way to appease the single class crowd. I think it lasted 3 years.
It lasted 2 years and in the 2nd year the 1A champs, Tecumseh, did very well against the 4A champs, Indy North Central. Indy North Central won 69-64. I don't know why they stopped the TOC?

I didn't think EC would ever have better team than the 1994 EC team, but this years team is much better than 1994. In 1994 EC won state 35-0 over DeKalb. DeKalb was 13-0 and beat New Haven 97-0 the 2nd game of that season. The closest game EC had in 1994 was 35-18.

If Ben Davis wins , which I think they will , it will be because of the tough schedule . If CP wins (Go Dogs), it will be because of Ben Davis's tough schedule , they are beat up from playing 2-3 straight tough teams . I can hear it already .
Before the BD game, Coach Moore did say something about how the long season had taken a toll on his team. Anyway, BD is going to score 30+ on CP and CP knows that. I think CP will have to use trick plays and maybe get a punt return for a td or something like that to stay in the game.

So funny you guys argue about this and no mentions that private schools can restrict enrollment keeping the bad seeds out that is their biggest advantage end of story.
When it comes to high school football, Chatard does things the right way. They don't just win because they are a Catholic school. SB St. Joseph, Mishawaka Marian, Hammond Noll, and Indy Ritter used to be good, but they don't win much anymore. Did those school let in some bad seeds? Public schools can win state 5 years in a row and nobody will say anything. When LCC won state 4 years in a row, some people on here were going crazy. This year they are after Chatard again.

Where are these Indiana mountains you speak of? You must not get of our Marion county very often.......................
And so the Catholic/religious component of this particular p/p education are less important? Or you believe it's really not worth the check's you write for it?
The IHSAA is a 100% private institution. Always had been, probably always will be.
So, you think Catholic schools should not be members of the IHSAA?

If you miss the old days, then you can go back to the cluster system, when the oppressed Catholic schools in Marion County sued the IHSAA because they were all put in the same sectional.
Oppression crosses all boundaries and decades.
I think some people would like to go back to the 1930's, when Catholic schools were not allowed to be members of the IHSAA.

I think the game is dead even. This isn't one of Luers better teams in my opinion. I think LLC can say the same. Being a Fort Wayne guy though, I hope the Knights prove me wrong.

"The odds are as even as we can get. You stay close to me, kid." Patrick Swayze said that line in what movie from the 1980's?

Yes... knew about both Concordia games... the remnants of 76 were gone in 78.... Am curious about Dwenger in 68... 69 was one of the top Lcc teams ever... 76 was just the luckiest....
I think LCC would have beat Dwenger in 68, but they were without their starting fullback, Gordon Halsema. Dave Metzinger had to take his place. Dwenger scored in the 3rd to go up 6-0. LCC had a fourth and seven at the Saints 7 yard line with 41 seconds left, but the Saints intercepted Bush's pass.

Ok Tippy... u da man with the books... Did little Lcc win any of those games?? Other than Concordia....
LCC is 2-2 against FW teams. Dwenger beat LCC 6-0 the first game of the 1968 season. Dwenger went 8-1 in 1968. LCC beat at FW South 32-21 in 1972. South was 1-8 that year. LCC beat Concordia 13-6 in 1977 and Concordia beat LCC 40-12 in 1978
-
LCC gets to play FW Luers! LCC played FW Dwenger in 1968, FW South in 1972 and FW Concordia in 1977 and 1978, but never Luers. I don't know who is going to win. LCC fans think Luers is going to win and Luers fans think LCC is going to win. Its looks like a 50/50 game. How did Homestead only score 10 points on Luers? Homestead scored 23 on Snider when they beat them in OT.

Was watching a little bit of the Warren/CG game last night that was tight throughout- and it got me thinking…
What are some of the biggest “upsets” that have taken place in the IHSAA football tournament??
I know we rarely have the #1 ranked team win in all classes so technically you could say they happen every year- but I’m talking “super teams” everyone just assumed were going to walk thru the tourney??
I fancy myself a historian somewhat of high school football and really- I couldn’t come up with many. The Zachary teams that everyone thought would dominate did…Anthrops LCC teams did, Kisner Pioneer teams- same. Warren Central with Tardy…yup. Banks with Ben Davis, they won it. Heck even as far back as Grossman with BS.
At the state finals, Lowell beat Roncalli 28-27 in 2005. Some people thought that was a big upset. Snider beat Ben Davis 24-21 in 1992 at State. Castle beat Hobart 26-23 in 1982. Many people thought those games were upsets.

Folks around Indiana way complain about repeat teams in state championships. Aledo has appeared in the six of the last seven state championship games and eleven of the last fourteen across two classes ... Texas 4A and Texas 5A. I think they've also won all but one or two.
I'm sure there are some people in every state that think their state is doing it wrong and the system is broken. I wonder what Indiana would do if LCC appeared in that many state championship games?

This is comical...I know you get it...well at least I think you do. It's not about classes, it's about the best way to arrive at them. Every state in the union recognizes enrollment doesn't work. And you know it doesn't.
There are a lot of things in this world that I find comical. What does Coach Hart say about enrollment? It would be interesting to know what all the Indiana High School football coaches have to say about this.

Not really. Most people understand and agree with me on this platform. Enrollment can’t and won’t work….and hasn’t in any state in the union. Anyone who doesn’t breathe through their mouth understands it. To defend it is just soft.
I don't like class basketball, maybe they should do away with class sports. I would like that better than enrollment. The IHSAA thinks enrollment has worked for 50 years. They are not going to change. If you hate the system that much, maybe you should move to another state. Every time the IHSAA does change something, it gets worse. The IHSAA does not agree with you. I don't know what else to tell you. Call the IHSAA and maybe you can get them to get rid of class basketball.

GS has had 5 years of smooth sailing with no p/p in sight until LOS. Why you continue to beat the drum against p/p schools is simply beyond me. BTW, we had plenty of down years from 2011-2015 in 3A.
Sagarin Ratings has GS ranked 6th in 4A. Maybe GS should be in 4A this year. Chatard should be in 5A. East Central should be in 6A this year. Lutheran should be in 3A. Frankfort has been bad for a long time, they should be in 1A. Nobody seems to be in the right class. What he says is beyond most people.
SOME LCC FOOTBALL HISTORY
in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Posted
I thought the 1984 team was the worst LCC team ever, even though they beat Seeger 15-8. On October 12, 1984 Attica beat LCC 50-0. LCC had 26 rushing yards in that game. I thought that was the lowest point in LCC football history.
Attica 0 21 15 14
LCC 0 0 0 0
Things started to turn around on September 13, 1985 when LCC beat McCutcheon 6-4. Rich Ebershoff's 9 yard 2nd quarter td pass to Vince Lockard was the only td of the game. McCutcheon closed to 6-4 with 6:47 left when Ebershoff was tackled in the end zone, but LCC held on for the win. It seemed like the youth program started to help by 1989, but then LCC almost closed in the Spring of 1990, and it would take about another 8 years before LCC would have a really good team.
