I never said it HAS happened, I said I could see it happening here in Indiana.  That was a speculation.  There are MANY smaller schools (and a few larger ones) who have had very little to no success with winning seasons let alone doing well in the tournament.  It's so easy to sit on "high" and tell those programs, "Get better or get over it".  It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and talk big talk especially when you are in a solid program.  Spend some time in a small town with a small program who hasn't had success.  See how much it means to those kids to play even ONE game in the tournament.  You want to take that away from them? Sorry, but I'm not that cold hearted.  And by your math you want only 84 teams in Indiana in the tournament (25%) just so we can be like Ohio?  That smacks of junior high mentality.  "Mom, all of the other kids have one, why can't I?"  If you are so set on being like Ohio, why don't you get on the IHSAA committee and try to push your "Let's be like Ohio" dream tournament through them?

I am long on the record as proposing a top 50% qualification system, which would put approximately 160 Indiana schools in the playoffs. The rest of your post is simply a rehash of the hurt feelings/entitlement mentality which is the product of 30+ years of the all in format. It has been demonstrated statistically in each of approximately the last 5-6 years that such a format will essentially not deprive anyone of anything. I'll do it again this year, but I don't realistically hope to convince anyone with facts. After all, speculation is, apparently, much more persuasive.

I've only had a few psych and soc classes, but I'm pretty sure you guys just have opinions and not mentalities.

Dave is not sick...he is well.  I just saw him with my own eyes a bit ago.

Now, as for your issue.  I totally agree.  The Evansville paper has done their overly predictable article (vomit) on the Titans.  They have the Titans beating the Colts on Sunday after they walk all over Heritage Hills.  They and Randall Parmley make me sick to my stomach with their Titanphilia.

I guess that is the best of smack talk I can come up with.

I ran into one of our running backs last night at the school, they had been watching film.  They are beyond stoked, but it is guarded--just like this thread.  Personally, I think we win and win decisively--then do the same thing to Southridge in the final.  I believe we are that good.  There someone said it.  Could it go the other way....absolutely, ultimately these are children and if children are anything they are inconsistent.

Again, I say this with the respect for a couple excellent teams who are coached by excellent coaches....it could go either way.

    Excellent post and perspective.

  3. I certainly would like to see a better angle.  To each his own opinion, but yours is the only one that counts.  I saw a guy lunge forward and make a tackle nearly from his knees, not sure how that is lifting up a QB, but maybe I have rose colored glasses and didn't see it clearly.

The Luers contingent (for whatever reason it's just Luers) have making this claim that Snider's a magnet school for football and draws all the best athletes. If that were truly the case, wouldn't Snider win the SAC every year? They have 3 or 4 SAC championships over the last 10 years. There are lots of athletes in Fort Wayne and they are actually spread out through the schools quite evenly. Snider is good every year because of good coaching, plain and simple. Open enrollment is a real thing, but it's not abused the way some on here make it out to be. It's easier to make excuses and throw accusations at other programs rather than looking within your own program and trying to figure out what can be done to make it better..............human nature unfortunately.

Some truth, some laughable.  Do either of you work in schools?

We have lots of schools who basically go thru the motions during football season.  They have no hope for a winning season, or a conference championship or post season success.

As numbers dwindle, is it not a good idea for ADS and admins to do a thorough assessment of this activity to determine if it is still a worthwhile investment in valuable funds and that this investment provides kids with a positive experience ?

We have read many times on this forum that coaches and ADs sometimes must scour the halls for live bodies trying to fill out a football roster.  Is that really a good idea in the long run?  I don't think so.  If we have to force kids to play and drag them kicking and screaming away from their devices and video games, then our priorities are skewed badly.

I teach at a school that is having a pretty bad year.  The players that I personally know in my class do not just go through the motions.  You're nuts.  I've played on and coached some good and bad teams and we tried our best each and every time (various sports).    One of the bigger reasons for score disparities is due to the offenses that are quick strike as compared to days of yore.

You never could get over the fact that the Snider/Luers series was so lopsided. Instead of acknowledging the fact that Snider's success over Luers is due to the size of the schools, you went on recruiting rampage against the Panthers. Certainly Snider's success had nothing to do with a great coaching staff that built one heck of a program, it just HAD to be recruiting. Even with the 1.65 multiplier, Snider is still twice the size of Luers................and that is why the series is so lopsided. Stop the nonsense Robert.

DT. You said it yourself. Per capita, Fort Wayne shells out more than their fair share of high level football players. If they all went to Snider, the Panthers would literally have 20+ championships.

I’m not stupid and a lopsided series is understandable.  I have taught in the Fort Wayne area for years, grew up where many of Snider’s best from the 80’s, 90’s, and today grew up and actually attended Snider.   Heck, some of my friends teach there now.   Snider is at least 3 times bigger than Luers, if not 4.  They, like most FW schools, have kids from most all FW zip codes.  That Woodson camp was the greatest recruiting tool Ever, period!

nstead of the popular flat multiplier for all sports, the OHSAA proposal uses multipliers of two (football), five (basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball) or six (soccer). It will also be applied to public schools with open enrollment.

"Evenly." That's the problem with the Success Factor. The privates have an advantage over the publics. Always have, always will. Zero boundaries. I'm all for the 1.65.

Zero boundaries?  Sounds familiar.  If a multiplier comes in, you bet your bippy recruiting will be ugly.  I haven't worked for East Allen for several years, but when Harding was reimagined, the other 4 schools would put on their recruiting hats when they went to have their talk with the Junior High kids.  There are coaches on here who do teach for EACS, but I think they'll stay mum on this.  Maybe they all go to New Haven now anyhow.

Really?  Others in this thread seem to believe it is reprehensible for a school to play another school 10x it's enrollment in the state tournament, but playing a school that is 5-6x the enrollment is ok.    What is the cutoff point?    Is the difficulty level really exponential when you compare school enrollments in regards to high school football, or it more like a bell curve?

But we all know that's not the reason you bring it up.  You could care a whole lot more that the enrollments are different.  Equity on the playing field just isn't going to come because the games are not set up to be a social experiment, but a real-life competition.

So what is the correct 'x' factor when it comes to enrollment?  Apparently it is ok for a Cathedral to play in a tournament with schools 5-6x their enrollment but not 10x?

And in Indiana high school football whoever invests the long-term resources into building a lasting and successful program usually wins.  Why should they not be rewarded by playing similar schools with similar goals?

I simply don't comprehend the question.

Just laying out all possible angles. Officials don't apply to the girls basketball tournament because of the level of play. I think you'd see that mentality carry over. Especially when the average age of officials in this state is 50+.

I've heard a few officials don't apply because of the good ol' boys that have their own club.  Good girl's basketball is fun to watch.  The fundamentals and team attitude is great.

Thank you for the eloquent opinion Bobref.

A true system of promotion/relegation, taking enrollment entirely out of the equation,  is the fair and logical way to go.   My opinion on that has not wavered.

I don't think it would work because the kids are not there for long and are not hand picked.  I watched promotion/relegation in Colombia and Ecuador.  Whoever has the most money wins.
