    Wrong.

Again, I clarified that I was referring to the Tournament Success Factor Era. Only one school has elected to not move down when they had the chance.  No one has elected to play up.  New Palestine has played in 5A for four years (not six) due to TSF, and will for at least two more.  In their four years in 5A, they have lost a state championship, won a state championship, and lost in their sectional twice.  As a public school with a enrollment less than 1200, that puts them in the middle third of 4A football.  If they were eligible to move down, I would advocate that they stay up, if they've been competitive in that arena.  But tournament success factor takes care of that.

Cathedral operates under a different set of rules than a public school.  New Palestines roster in 2019 had 53 kids.  Cathedral had over 90.  Their schedule suggests they belong in a higher class.  If you can't see that, not sure that I can help you or your sauce.  I'm glad to see Cathedral stay in 5A for this cycle.  It's the minimum for where they belong in the tournament.

Didn't Mishawaka elect to play up?  Am I misunderstanding the parameters?

To give you an idea of the respect for Snider, our HOF head coach had a JV game date open up and he scheduled Snider. He attended the game on a practice/Monday night, so it really meant something to him. Told the boys (I’m paraphrasing) if you’re going to be an elite 6A team this is the competition you must defeat to do so.

Which JV team did Snider send/play with?

Snider is always good and have added a couple athletic basketball players to the mix.  They should help make them more athletic at the very least.   But it sounds like they are 6A now anyway.

Bishop Dwenger loses  a 6 7 315 lb RT to Wisconsin,  also lose Center, Guard, TE and the running back who scored the game winner in State who arguably was the heart and soul of team.

On D they lose, SS, CB, THREE very good LBs and one DL.

Also lose PK and Punter and Long Snapper

Returning are 2 WR( 1 2 year and 1 converted QB) QB, RB(leading rusher)LT and Guard and on D 1 LB(Jr All State)2 DL 1 Corner and FS. An incoming Slot WR should help too.  There was a player injured last year that you could say is a returning starter but don’t know where  he will play.

That is quite a few holes to fill.  We will see how they do.  On paper, they have the people to step in, but until proven on the field, you just can’t tell.

I don’t know how the new alignment will shake out as far as Sectional draws but getting to 5A State game will still be a challenge for all teams.  New Pal, however, and a few others will be a very tough team to beat.

If Cathedral moves back to 5 A as it seems they will, provided  the North South alignment for Sectionals remains the same for New Pal, and I was forced to make a prediction for best 3 from N and S, it would be:  Bishop Dwenger, Michigan City and Mishawaka up north and Cathedral, Decatur Central and New Pal in the south.  (Listed Alohabetically)

Since Dwenger has Luers and North Side converts and former head coaches galore, they'll be fine putting the pegs in.

I think this issue plays out over time and resolves itself.

Those who are coming into power in the education hierarchy do not share the same passion for tackle football as their predecessors did.  Changing demographics, socio economic pressures, injury and potential long term disability concerns, and declining participation will all take their toll and contribute to whether schools decide to play on or contract.  Several schools have already taken a hard look at these challenges and made the decision to shut down struggling programs.  More are sure to come.

The advancing encroachment of lay coaching is another indicator of deterioration within the sport at the high school level.

From an economic standpoint, chronic underachieving schools create problems within their own school corporations and for those who they compete with at the local level.  High school football is far and away the most expensive sport to offer to student athletes on the extra curricular menu.  Gone are the days when ADs could count on gate receipts and concessions to help fund other sports.  Attendance is abysmal and dropping year over year at staggering rates.  Online streaming will only exacerbate this trend.

How can a struggling school corporation like Frankfort justify the expense of staff, insurance, officials, equipment, travel, etc when the community is so apathetic toward the sport and numbers continue to decline year after year?  This scenario is playing out in many other high school communities across the state.

Yes, I do strongly believe that fewer schools will produce an elevated level of play.  Games will be more competitive and meaningful.  The threat of cancellation and postponement will be mitigated.  Severe injuries due to physical mismatch will decline.  many schools will free up valuable resources that can benefit a broader expanse of the student population.

I have said it before and Ill say it again.  ADs do not owe the high school football experience to their respective student bodies.  Football is a sport that demands resources far and above any other sport on the menu.  Prudent, cost effective decision making should replace maintenance of the status quo.

I heard at lunch today that Frankfort has 90+ out this year.  The word is the kids are more excited than they’ve been in years.

Muda.  You are correct that instead of offering a tax decrease, they kept the tax rate the same.  But to label it as dishonest is disingenuous on your part.   Tax payers understand the tax rate they are paying.  They should be satisfied as long as it doesn't increase.  And the property tax rate of only the school portion is effected. Not the entire property tax rate. With the number of school districts that are needing to fund their General Fund, not Capital Projects, with referendums we should all be praising schools like Center Grove that are fiscally astute enough to be able to provide high quality facilities without increasing taxes.

Don't know if this is here nor there, but just spent several months working in Frankfort.   Need some happiness shined down in that place.

I almost always renew with 2 college courses within one of my license areas.  Each class is worth 45 points.  I don't have that option now, I believe.  I almost always have one or two jobs outside of school, but that is my business.  I did have a coach at IPS tell me that maybe I needed to let go of one of those extra jobs.  That was a crock of cheese.

perhaps I can still do it through the link above.

But... it was on Facebook!  Correct me if I'm wrong.  But the Total (90) hours for renewal did not change, just the content coverage of some of them?

The bill doesn't require an externship, which has seemed to get all the publicity.  It was stated as an option, along with the professional development options you highlighted.  And 15 hours of PD, does that amount to 3 per year?  I think they are 5-year renewals?

If given the choice between a continuing education seminar titled "Creating Effective Rubrics", "Learner Outcomes for the 21st Century", or "Job Skills needed for a Global Workforce" - I would choose the last one every time.  I think all 3 would be important, but adding the 3rd doesn't take away from 1 and 2.

I think it's fair to criticize the manner in which the bill was written and passed.  It's also fair to discuss whether work readiness/career preparation is the job of a public HS.  Should they instead be focused on a broader understanding of the world and educating future citizens in civic engagement?  Those are all good questions.

That's my take as an outsider, but someone who does have to get continuing education hours for a professional license.  That's less than your 2 cents!

I guess another question I pose, is what is the Unions' position on this? Members pay over $700.00 a year to be represented, so what are they doing?

I've dropped the union before and will watch this closely.

It still floors me, changing the topic a little, how people really think teachers do nothing but babysit.  I'm reading and rereading this BS on facebook from people in business who act as if we teachers aren't good enough to do anything.  When I chime in that I've worked on some darn fine teams and that many of the teachers I've worked with work elsewhere and are often asked to be management, they balk and/or say things about their wives being teachers...  Those who can, teach!

I believe it is a selection you make in LVIS when you apply for renewal.  It has been awhile.  I am letting mine expire.  I am done with teaching.  Working in private industry has been a breathe of fresh air.  And if I ever feel the call to coach again I can do it as a volunteer or position coach.  Just don't see the "call" being that strong again.  I am liking my golfing days way too much!

I have a friend who regularly runs marathons, plays 18 or 36, and eats like a king on the clock.  Must be nice.  I had a chocolate cake with cherry icing last week and a couple of tacos for teacher appreciation week.  Once, I gave a talk at an international conference, only to get sick and just kind of stand there while my colleague did all of the talking.    🙂

What is the ultimate goal of those in charge?  If it is the privatization of education, they are well on their way to achieving that.  Daniels, Pence, Holcomb, Dr. Bennett are not the only issues in the political arena.  The local political figures who are elected have done nothing but strip funding from the traditional public schools and open the flood gates to charter schools.  It is an embarrassment from that state lawmakers believe these new schools are such a better idea.  They have much less oversight and are continuing receive more funding.  Because we keep electing the same politicians to office, are we the people who deserve the blame?

Side note:  I use to work in a private school and many of the kids who were eligible to receive funding were great students and the funding was the only way they could go to that school.  To my knowledge, all of them have graduated or on the path to graduation.

It's nice to see some objectivity.  I'm seriously considering going to the Catholic schools and working in a restaurant on the off hours.  I went to one and just visited one last year...still similar to 30 years ago as far as work ethic/discipline.  On another note,   I'm a friend of Dr. Bennett on Facebook.  We've gone our rounds.  He's either brainwashed or $ blind.

  10. They lost three regular season games on the field.  If I remember correctly, they were toe to toe with Snider that year.

Much depends on the talent they have and will have, along with the willingness to learn and grow.  Correct me if I am wrong, but the 1999 state champion team struggled during the regular season due to  youth.  It was the first varsity year for Anthony Spencer and the Great Eight.
