I guess your point was lost by me?

No the kids are not forced to go anywhere.

Then please explain your me, me, me era is here in context to the thread you started......I must have missed it.

I have never once, in this thread abashed or chided students, or their decisions to select the college they wanted to attend.
You all jumped on that stage coach. And it left town.

Any young man that chooses to play as a PWO is not a me, me, me person.
Those are your words, not mine.

Pretty selfish, for the health of indiana smaller colleges.

Allowing more kids to play college football. Oh the horror!
Participation Numbers don’t change.

I believe we read earlier in this thread that Coach Allen's intent is to follow the Nebraska model of the 70-95 period and "build" a sub roster of PWO players. We could be looking at an expansion from 2 or 3 to possibly 20 or 30
How can that not have an impact on smaller in state schools down the trough?
This, not only Nebraska but Alabama in that early time period.

I believe that's what he was saying. The cost difference can vary as well. I know a football player at Franklin who was given enough scholarship money likely due to his ability to play football (he's a good student too) that he's paying very little to attend. My son had a friend who was a good swimmer and recruited to Wabash. His academic scholarships, grants, and work study got him down to $14k/year. He was also recruited to UIndy and looked at Purdue but received no scholarship offers from them. Purdue would have been more expensive than Wabash for him.
The schools could not exist if not for bringing athletes in the door.
-
Not a good look for Indiana, at near the bottom of the BIG class rating. also. Mark Hagan all ready to coach at Texas. Unless Fred ante's up to keep him.
-
I understand this, grants. The schools would not be able to keep their doors open If they didn’t reserve over half of their grants in aid for athletes.

D3 NO ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS
As a matter of fact, DIII schools in Indiana would not be able to keep their doors open if not for athletes deciding to enroll to further their sport careers. The sole reason they reserve over half academic scolis for athletes.

The reality is DT, regardless if they went to Marian, Franklin, Hanover, St. Francis, Wabash, UIndy, etc. they are going to walk out with some debt (maybe more as most D2, NAIA schools are private).
D1 FBS Schools get 85 Scholarships for 85 players
D1 FCS get 63 Scholarships for up to 85 players (Butler & Valpo are in the Pioneer League and do not offer Football Scholarships)
D2 Football gets 36 scholarships for up to 85 players
D3 NO ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS
NAIA gets 24 Scholarships
Most if not all D3 schools set aside ,half of their scoli money ,or more, for athletics, so your statement is a little misleading.

Add all state linebacker Caleb McCoy , to the list.

BINGO
Then Tom needs to put the money out there, and Don't dangle a carrot in front of these young men's noses. When they could very well be playing or starting, with scoli money at another institution in Indiana. This will weaken the the smaller schools rosters. Not fair for Tom to glut the "Indiana's best" marginal players.
-
Allen has a distinct advantage with “Indiana’s best” marginal high school players , to the disadvantage of the smaller schools. It’s a Lot easier for these kids to accept a walk on to IU ,than try to get the help needed from parents and coaches to amassing film , statistics ,data necessary to cull a scoli from these other schools. Some don’t have the help or no one will give them the help.
-
I would venture to guess 1/3 or more of these walk ons would be getting everything paid for at other schools. Getting the best talent in the state has nothing to do with depleting the available talent for other non-major school in the state.

I think the portal changed those rules where schools could block other schools etc etc
This for Cronk also. As His old coach had him in the fold. And Allen block the move.

Michigan State, Oklahoma, Utah?
Looks like all their QBs are seniors.
Won’t be Michigan State. That was blocked.

Preferred walk on roster for Indiana University is bulging at the seams with Indiana kids. Depleting the available instate athletes for smaller state colleges and universities. including ,but not Limited to.other In state D1schools. Most of these kids will never see the light of day in their career at IU. whether Allen thinks he’s being generous or what. This is not a good thing.

Yes , he probably would have been the third string QB. Good for the transfer portal.

They are elevating an assistant to take over.

Of course, because I think the new coach has a good track record. I have no idea who else applied. His teams were fun to watch at two different places. Strictly as a fan. I'd hate to ask the same thing of the Bulldogs. Looks rude.
Ok,Asking You a specific question looks rude? Is that what you mean? I’m not as qualified as you to discern. Just requesting info.

Come on here? Indiana and Purdue ain’t ever in a hundred million years Going to get in the big three circle with these Indiana elite “marginal D1” athletes. I know what your getting at ,but it takes years and years of landing 4and 5 star athletes. Starting with indiana high school kids.
