  1. This whole thing is getting ugly.  Not only did the football coach get canned, but so did baseball.  Could basketball be too far behind?  There are even reports on the news about the hazing, definitely not a good look for NU, nor the Big Ten.  I get hazing...to an extent.  I had to run barefoot, but that was basically it.  Good clean fun does not include what these kids went through.

Valpo and merrillville and Michigan city have all been making runs recently. Crown point has to get up to their level of consistency. Would love to see portage and lake central finally show up but that’s a ways off

Then there's that buzzsaw of Warsaw, Ft. Wayne, and Lafayette before almost certain annihilation to an Indianapolis-area school...

  3. Again, this is where my Norther Indiana Football Alliance mumbo-jumbo comes into play: all of the 6A schools in one league: Crown Point, Lake Central, Penn, Elkhart, Warsaw, Carroll, Homestead (and another FW school I may have missed as our Lafayette Jeff Broncho {with a H} friends are still reminiscing about basketball).

It would make sense for KV and Rensselaer to be in the same conference.  KV has outgrown Rensselaer by a lot but there isn’t a significant difference between them in the strength of their athletic programs.

The Hoosier Conference will probably continue their patchwork and try to get Lebanon to replace Northwestern. The Tigers are not a bad fit and they are looking for a home, but I wonder if they want to bring Danville and Tri-West with them.

I know this will be another example of things that are unlikely to happen, but the Hoosier Conference and the remaining members of the Sagamore could split into 2 conferences like this.  KV would be a decent fit for the Hoosier in my opinion, so I’m including them as a 7th member.

    Hoosier Conference

    Logansport 1214

    Kankakee Valley 1074

    West Lafayette 730

    Twin Lakes 674

    Benton Central 508

    Rensselaer Central 468

    Lafayette Central Catholic 294

    Sagamore Conference

    Lebanon 1027

    Western 819

    Danville 778

    Hamilton Heights 710

    Tri-West 613

    Tipton 439

That does seem to make a lot of sense, but I'm going to retreat to my "Time Zone" defense.  RC and KV are Central, while all others are not.  No big deal for football, but other sports that have weekday games, it's not as fun.  I like the looks of your new Sagamore, and although they're the smallest by a mile, I see Tipton holding their own.

BTW, Hanover Central just joined the NWCC, which could alleviate the need for the Kougars with a K.

You’re right, none of what I suggested will ever happen.  The eastern schools probably wouldn’t want Tipton.  The western schools would most likely prefer not to drive to BC and Rensselaer.  I don’t think any of the schools would be willing to bring in Central Catholic.

I've never been a fan of the Bombers in the HC.  Sure, the matchups with BC, Twin Lakes, West Lafayette (and to that end Central Catholic) make sense--but there are no natural rivalries with anybody else.   I think the Northwest Crossroads would be a much better fit.  Same time zone and a natural rivalry with Kankakee Valley who is out there on an island.  Decent proximity to Lowell and Hanover Central as well...

Demographics are changing drastically in the state and the trend will continue for the forseeable future. Every pocket of the state is seeing changes. The size of families is part of this, this generation is having less and less children. Economic factors are also shifting and rural and old rust belt cities are seeing an exodus. Some pockets of the state are seeing growth, while others are seeing an outflow. The confrence changes we are seeing are more or less a sympthom of this. Traditional 1A schools are now 3A. Some 4A and 3A schools are now closer to 2A. If I was a betting man, I would wager a guess that we will see more changes for years to come. I have no issue with it, school admin have to weigh their options and give their students the best home to field teams on their equitable levels.

    INDEED.

Yes minor controversy years ago 5 star rb James Aldridge profile listed hometown crown point but school merrilllville  but part of that township in cp goes to merrillville and parts of cp goes to lake central.

The actual CPHS building is actually well south of downtown Crown Point.  When I looked for a house in Crown Point, I learned the neighborhood I was interested was in the MHS school district.

Heard there were special dispensations provided, along with Subways subs, at the rest break on the way home.

Hopefully, they'll pad the schedule a couple of minutes to stop off and take a look at the Grand Canyon.

I love the Grand Canyon, but it's hot as hell most of the year, but there was actually snow on the ground when I visited the South Rim a few years ago.

Eastlake is flying 55 kids out. They are a year round school and have a 2 week break during that time frame. They will be visiting colleges in Chicago during their stay.

I don't know what the draw Chicago has over San Diego, but that's just me.  Actually, Chicago does have some excellent colleges: the University of Chicago, Northwestern, DePaul, and Loyola are among the best.
