Maybe the home of the Music City Bowl needs a better stadium!

Perhaps we should just go the route of the NFL Washington team when they were changing from the Redskins and switched to just being the "Washington Football Team" for a season. They were called exactly what they were. Their name shouldn't offend anyone although their play might have.
What fun would that be? It's always fun to have teams like the Cornjerkers, Wooden Shoes, and Banana Slugs on your schedule...

I'll be of the propensity to get bored at work, but some stuff you can't make up: the Effingham (IL) High School Flaming Hearts...

Lastly, the overlords at Nike have adorned "Fighting" Ducks on the University of Oregon's basketball uniforms, I'm sure PETA is just chomping at the bit...

Ahhh I'm glad you brought up PETA, excellent point... and in some cases, they put "fighting" in front of the mascot's name. So not only do they mock/make fun of animals, they want them to be dangerous! The horrors!
I do what I can.

Funny you say that--a school in the Chicago Suburbs, is named the Blazing Trojans.

We are talking about Kentland vs. the Indy area. The SN Rebels could be renamed the Magas in that neck of the woods.
When Seeger HS was opened they were called the Indians. The name was later changed to the Patriots, but this was long before the push to remove Native American names as mascots.
The school opened in the late 1960s--way different era then. Old South was the way to go apparently--who knew?

It would be much more sensical for the Berries to join the Sagamore or CIC.

I heard the NN Spartans were originally supposed to be the Yankees, but they backed off and settled for Spartans.
I do understand the use of Indians if it is cartoonish or disparaging can be offensive, and Redskins is going a bit far. I would personally be more offended being called a Minuteman. That could get you a bad reputation!
I never knew that about NN--good thing they didn't. As an SN alumnus, I never really liked being a Rebel as I am much more fun-loving. But back to the topic--Minuteman: bad news...

I am for Logan leaving the NCC as I believe it is a sinking ship, but going to the HC sets the bar too low.
love their nickname, though...

Has this become the Nickname Hall of Fame 2.0?
Will religious leaders find problems with Red and Blue Devils of Lowell, Pike, Richmond, Tipton, and West Lafayette? Even Pappy Gipper's Alma Mater was the Blue Devils before consolidating into South Newton and becoming the equally politically correct Rebels.
I wonder if PETA will show up in Oxford sometime this fall to protest BC's Bison. They may also go after the Bronchos of Lafayette Jeff for the mere fact they can't properly spell it. Safe schools would include the Hanover Central Wildcats, Lawrence Central Bears, Rushville Lions, and Seymour Owls,
The ancient worlds of Greece and Rome have been glorified, too as many schools have chosen Athenians, Spartans, Titans, and Trojans as their moniker. The Pendleton Heights Arabians would probably be on PETA's list as opposed to that race of people who seem to hate everything.

I wonder how this will be received by bigger programs such as Anderson and Lake Central.

Or not. Some coaches will shy away from Center Grove because they don't believe there is much benefit from losing by 3+ touchdowns. I personally don't believe in that. Every program should know what the benchmark is, otherwise, how will you attain it?
Agreed. To be the best (or maybe second best in this instance), you have to play the best

I'm pretty sure that CG would prefer to be playing in-state, but probably not at the expense of playing an under-.500 2A team.
point....

If the weeks 2 through 5 games are 2-year home and home contracts, then CG will be traveling a lot weeks 2-5 of the 2024 season. They would travel to TN, Louisville, Cincy, and Columbus in 4 weeks.
Sad, if you asked me. Indiana high school teams should be playing other teams in the state--it's that simple.

Seemed inevitable. Sounds like he was QB #3 coming out of Spring. I know nothing about QB #2 other than he won an 8A Title in Florida.
I'm not the least bit upset. I think Hudson Card will do great things and Ryan Browne should be a good backup. Marco Davila, a top-respect from Texas, is a commit for next year.

In my post on the topic of Harrison and McCutcheon being booted from the NCC, I proposed a plan to expand that conference and include a blend of the current members with some slightly smaller schools within the NCC footprint. I’m applying that same thought to the NIC and NLC, which would be to combine them and split into 2 regions (East and West), each with two divisions (Large and Small). Something like this, with enrollments from the fall 2022 count day included.
East Region, Large Division (EL):
Elkhart 3302
Goshen 1981
Concord 1775
Northridge 1389
East Region, Small Division (ES):
Plymouth 1076
Northwood 917
Wawasee 906
Mishawaka Marian 698
West Region, Large Division (WL):
Penn 3401
Warsaw 2096
South Bend Adams 1976
Mishawaka 1463
West Region, Small Division (WS):
South Bend Riley 992
South Bend Washington 834
South Bend Saint Joseph 819
New Prairie 978
In football, each school plays the 3 in their division, 2 from the other division of schools their size, and 1 from each of the 2 divisions of schools a different size. That gives each school 7 conference games. It also allows them to preserve some long-time rivalries and still play 2 non-conference games against opponents of their choice. In basketball, each team plays everyone in their region (east/west) and the 4 schools from the opposite side of the conference who play in the same size-based division. So using Penn as an example, this could be their football schedule, not necessarily in this order.
Valparaiso
Cathedral
Mishawaka (WL 1)
Warsaw (WL 2)
South Bend Adams (WL 3)
Elkhart (EL 1)
Northridge (EL 2)
Northwood (ES)
New Prairie (WS)
Elkhart could then have a schedule like this:
Hammond Morton
Lake Central
Concord (EL 1)
Goshen (EL 2)
Northridge (EL 3)
Penn (WL 1)
Warsaw (WL 2)
Mishawaka Marian (ES)
South Bend St. Joseph (WS)
This is just as unlikely to happen as my suggestion for the NCC.
From a football perspective, I love it. Bus as for the non-revenue (or "country club {treading lightly} sports"), it could be logistically challenging...

Then the move to vote out Harrison and McCutcheon makes no sense as Harrison has never won an NCC basketball title, much less an IHSAA title and McCutcheon has won NCC twice. Men's basketball had nothing to do with the ouster ... especially if the premise is that Harrison was the intended victim and McCutcheon was a drive-by casualty.
This has been a head-scratcher to me as it seemed to bring in a little more geographic balance with the Lafayette schools on the western flank, while Marion, Muncie, and Richmond comprised the east with Kokomo, Logansport, and (to a lesser extent) Tech being in the middle. I'm not real sure how long a six-team league can survives running on the fumes of yesterday.

Penn, Elkhart....maybe Warsaw.
Strange things may happen in the Region with Penn, Elkhart, Harr, & McCutch all being part of recent conference shake ups.
You never know. I'd like to see half of the DAC in this new conference, but don't think it would be good for all.

Doesn't really help Harrison or McCutcheon. Harrison used to have THS on its non-con schedule for a couple seasons and closest game was 20 points. Frankfort and West Vigo would make playing your own JV the better option from a travel, cost, and competition standpoint.
Definitely too big for the Hoosier at this point in time, although a fairly long time ago they were part of the Hoosier. They play LCC for scrimmage ... probably more so for travel and they've recently added West Lafayette as non-con already. West Lafayette has also played McCutcheon non-con in the past as well as Jeff, so they are intriguingly interesting if there's a new conference to be had and it was going to involve grabbing someone local. The Sagamore doesn't really help at all although Tri-West is a remaining member that would be some competition ... but no one to heavily push them toward being better come tourney time.
Jeff recently scheduled Cathedral. Wonder if Harrison could get Cathedral on their bill ... Battle of the Brothers? Harrison has played several of the p/p folks in undercard and even fill-in games at varsity level including Chatard, Brebuef, and Roncalli, so there's likely something going on there. Just hosted Guerin for baseball and already has played Cathedral and Brebeuf in the past.
I was being somewhat facetious as I know there are no roads between Lafayette and Terre Haute. Then again, the Beef House can be reached if the route takes one from SR 26 to SR 63.

South Bend Saint Joseph High School retiring the Indian nickname/mascot

On that note, and not being narrow-minded here, I wonder if Notre Dame has a beef with Cathedral using plain gold lids.
