  1. Watch on FS Indiana at my parents house as I don't think I can get it at my house. We are state liners so depending where you live, you get FS Ohio & FS Detroit or you get FS IN & FSOH/Cincy. Definitely tuning in to both 11am games Friday & Saturday. Family member was the first female kicker/player to ever score points for FW BL football and of course the county rivals which a good portion of my family has attended (not me though) SA.

Sort of off topic, but I just can’t believe how AWFUL the ACAC has been the last two years.  Other than SA and AC (and maybe Bluffton), it’s the worst I’ve ever seen it.

When I played, teams like Heritage, Woodlan, and Southern Wells dominated.  Hopefully it’s on the rise in the coming years!

It was the same when I played from 05-08. Heritage & Southern Wells were the big games for us at AC. Heck Garrett when they had been a member as well. It was always Heritage that got us in the first 2 years. It was always Heritage & then Leo when Harding closed as the top dog with AC & SW near 2-4 and SA,Woodlan, & Garrett right there as well. Bluffton towards the bottom.

Lately it was Woodlan winning 2 years being pushed by AC & actually upset by SA in playoffs. Then AC winning 2 years pushed by Woodlan and then SA. The past 2 years SA pushed a bit by AC. Bluffton is getting closer but not there yet.

Hoping Heritage will be back with their new coach and that SW can just survive as a school and get back on track. That would help a bit. It makes no sense other than travel for Norwell & Bellmont to join, but Norwell (few years Bellmont hopefully) would give some better competition for ACAC schools.

Agree coach.  Robinson's speed will be missed. Kind of reminds me of Danny Gregorich's broken leg suffered in semi-state against Southwood a couple of years ago.

Then we had trouble containing Tyler Meuer from Linton-Stockton in the state final. He was a very shifty qb but we were gassed from chasing him around all game.

It was against AC not Southwood. He and AC receiver Chase Peterson both broke their legs in that game that was a monsoon and I don't think they were too far apart when they happened, but it's been 4 years ago. Watching that state finals, I knew it was going to be trouble for Pioneer not having him. He did a lot with Kiser on that team.

Nice, going to school in New Haven in the late 60’s we spent a lot of time in the western part of Ohio, being 20 minutes away. Van wert county fair was the biggest in the in the area. Nice drag strip there. But the big attraction was the beer! 18 was the age limit. All of us looked 18, and Sunday sales. 50 years later indiana allowed Sunday sales. But yes, small communities in western Ohio but great football. ,

I'm a big college football guy so I always want to avoid the Van Wert County fair, but usually have to go. I like our little Adams County fair where it's just showing livestock and not all the other crap. I don't mind the horse racing but I can do without the carnival rides and such. Hate the town feel mixing its way into agriculture.

  5. Weird year to say the least. Biggest thing is that the OHSAA finals are the weekend before the IHSAA instead of the weekend after. For the Ohio representatives in the area:

    D4-Van Wert Cougars

    D6-Coldwater Cavaliers

    D7- New Bremen Cardinals

As for the Indiana teams in semi state:

    4A-Marion

    2A-Bishop Luers

    1A-South Adams Starfires

Hoping we get 3x State Champs and 3x Going to State finals! If we don't, it was still a great season for all these teams and many others getting through COVID the best they could!

To each their own, of course.  But I think it’s a good thing to kick a little money their way to support televising sporting events....especially during Covid.  I’m sure the IHSAA and the member schools have taken it on the chin this year.  Seems like 20 bucks isn’t too much to ask to help the cause.

I don’t have a team left...but I think I’d like to see Southridge tangling with Danville.  That ought to be a great game and I’m a big fan of what Coach Buening has done at Southridge.

And I’d also like the IHSAA to keep this up.  It costs money to televise games and I doubt that advertising covers all the costs.

I'll most likely pay but not sure since my school is out but county school South Adams is still in. So far The Berne Witness has been free thanks to many local businesses sponsoring and donating. Not sure I like them having to now be unbiased. If the money goes to just the schools or The Berne Witness I'd be paying no questions. As for the IHSAA & OHSAA I'm very hesitant.

  7. This one intrigues me. South Adams is the #1 ranked team, but are they considered the underdogs in this one? LCC has the tradition and history as well as home field in this one. They are also the defending state champs. I thought South Adams looked pretty nervous last night against Southwood and played much differently than they have all season. Credit to Southwood for pushing them, but I think South Adams played "hesitant" as the favorite. Probably the pressure they put on themselves for collapsing at the same stage last year. Can the Starfires play fast and free this week or will it be the same? What should we expect out of LCC? I know Tipton was good, but Luers beating them yesterday they way they did surprised me.

Interesting. Sounds like the 5-2 we ran when I was at Luers with a 3rd monster type hybrid playing up. It’ll be interesting to see how they match up with the Knights’ pass game. They throw it all over the yard and have 4 legitimate receivers to throw it to.

It's going to come down to the Luers OL blocking. If they can keep Pioneers quick defensive linemen out, they probably have a good shot. I believe both twins play db so they probably match up with receivers, it will be the other 2/3 dbs matching up. Also going to come down to Luers D line stuffing the running lanes and having great gap integrity. Part of the time they want to run the ball like draw plays when they stretch it out and other times they just try to outman you up the middle and around the edge. They like to mix a version of the triple option in a unique way. The pulling of the guard and tackle to either create a wedge or zone run scheme where the back picks which of the two to follow as they didn't always lead the same hole. I noticed they would have the the left guard pull to kick the opposite dt or de out but the left tackle pulling and then going back to the left guards spot to find a lb, others he'd replace the right guard. Their TE's like to seal the edge.

  9. 11/18/2016 didn't start out as the coldest, but probably became the coldest towards the end in Monroe for the Pioneer vs Adams Central semi state contest. It had been a really warm and nice day, but the travel pushed it to a 7:30 kickoff and that was delayed to the storm that rolled through. We were sent to the school along with Pioneer fans that had made it early. The rest of them had traveled with the monsoon of heavy rain, wind, lightning, and thunder. The wind mixed with the driving rain and a 25 or 30+ drop in temperature made it chilly/pneumonia type weather. Playing probably wasn't too bad, but spectating was not great. I remember not being able to feel my legs as I was trying to walk down the bleachers soaked and shaking. Outside of that, maybe the 2000 semi state win over North White, but I was pretty pumped up as a 4th grade fan for that one with my buddies. As a player, semi state practice in 2005 on a Tues/Wed before playing Sheridan. We actually moved practice to the east of the school to get a wind break.
