Are u seriously worries about getting beat by Triton?  Cmon man 77 vs 32.  Everything is set up for AC this year …including a 1A classification.  I’m going to say it.   If AC does not get to state it will be a disappointing season.  Similar to SA expectations last year …. SA delivered… same is expected from AC.  The ONLY thing in the way is 6” of mud in Berne in 2 weeks.

2015 I saw an AC team lose a week before they should. 2016 almost lost 2 weeks before they should have (luckily they got to SS). 2017 saw Southwood not just upset but dominate them. 2018 & 2019 did what they were supposed. 2020 they lost a week before they should as well. I want this team to get to LOS, but I just listed why I want to take it one week at a time.

I think Triton has a legit shot in this one.  They have definitely played the better schedule.  But they are young and have played like young guys - too many mistakes and not enough confidence.  If Triton plays to their talent level, it should be a really good game.

I'm impressed with Triton's QB & RB. They play hard nosed football from highlights I've watched.

I watched the 3rd and part of the 4th quarter and I was more concerned with the field conditions.  That field was entirely mud.  This wasn't a true indication of how good these two teams were.  We live in a time where a lot of schools have turf fields.  You can't tell me that there wasn't a school nearby who wasn't using their field that could've allowed this game to played there?

I feel bad that some of these kids had to end their season playing in those conditions.

There really wasn't a field available as AC used Bluffton's turf. I doubt MC was going to drive to Woodlan or Heritage just to play on turf. Berne has a ton of $, so we will see if they upgrade the field with donations.

  4. It was head scratching. I watched the 2nd half after AC had wrapped up their win in their 1st half. My cousin had been watching the SA 1st half and saying Kennedy was having his way but MC couldn't figure out the redzone. They never tried truly running it the whole 2nd half. Injury would have to be the answer. The end of game debacle has to be sent to the IHSAA. That was unacceptable all around regardless of shortage. It's the playoffs and it matters.

  5. The crew working South Adams vs Monroe Central has to be removed from officiating the rest of the tournament. Monroe Central got 4 TOs in 2nd half. SA should have been able to kneel it out instead of giving another chance to MC. Luckily it ended up a non factor but it could have been. That can't happen in the tournament. I know there is a shortage, but that is unacceptable.

The last neutral site game AC played on turf was in week 3 against a talented and athletic spread team in Parke Heritage and the Jets looked fast and explosive. This isn’t a Jet team that is solely built on the Rick Minnich mold of “3 yards and a cloud of dust.” They can do that (and since your comments in another thread suggest you don’t believe this, I think you need to watch film from last week), but they’re more dangerous when they can utilize speed while getting to the edge. The wings will make cuts much easier on the turf. Whatever potential advantage Southwood gains from this move is definitely balanced (if not outweighed) by the advantage that AC gains.
The sidelines of Minnich Field were submerged in flooded waters this weekend. Another inch or so of rain between tonight and kickoff would have made for ridiculous conditions - not to mention potentially making the field nearly unplayable for future games this postseason if they’re able to move on. This was the right move. We need to move past the fact that “we’ve never had to do this before.” It hasn’t been an option until recently and weather hasn’t prompted this situation in recent history.

I watched the game again and replayed over and over the plays on both sides. The pulling linemen had a rough night to say the least on the offense. Busco also did a good job with the MLB #25 blitzing off a pulling guard as well.  The wings had a hard time blocking as well, but the way they line up makes it hard on a few of the plays. On defense, it was clear Busco outnumbered them by pulling guard & tackle to a specific side. We need another quick DE to go with Currie and move Wurm to DT with Hirschy. Wurm is a great player but couldn't get to the edge fast enough as DE. Up the middle they drove Moon back multiple times into the LBS. Wurm & Moon are young and will be really good in the future. I think Bluhm may need to go DE & bring in another LB. Bluhm standing over the center felt like it took him out of the edge support to help Wurm.

I know the turf can help our wings this week, but I also think it helps Southwood's offense even more. A muddy field in Monroe would extremely hurt the Southwood offense more than AC's. I guess hopefully advancing and getting another possible home game is the only benefit I can see. I'd rather see neutral site for regional and semi state anyway. I'm sure if that ever happens, it'd be turf for those games.

  7. Field conditions coming into play this week. AC moved their home game to Bluffton's turf. AC has a great grass field that's well maintained. I think that helps AC's opponent Southwood & their offense than if the game was played in Monroe. Meanwhile SA hosts Monroe Central. SA has an ok field but it doesn't do as well in the rain as ACs. I think that muddy field in Berne could help SA against MC. Did AC beat SA to the punch to get Bluffton's turf or is this by design in each matchup?

Is Blake Heyerly for 137 yards on 28 carries against that tough defense not imposing their will? They knew he was getting the ball the entire 2nd half and couldn’t stop it. In terms of “predictability”, every team has tendencies. You can use tendencies to your advantage if you are aware of them (see the QB keepers where Black ran free for big yards after pounding Heyerly up the middle). I do agree the passing game needs to improve, but the Jets won’t pass more than 3 times if the fullback is getting 5 yards a carry regardless

The community appreciates your support of the youth program, but with all due respect, your experience in play calling at that level can’t be assumed to be the same experience at the HS level.

Maybe Heyerly imposing his will, but the line sure didn't. That was evident with Newy and Currie's stats. Not saying any play calling at youth or middle school is equivalent to high school, but the offense is easy to slow down like Busco did. There isn't much to deviate because of the formation.  How much will Heyerly have left in the tank if it has to be that way each week? Really Black only had one keeper that went for yardage. That was snuffed out as well. Black is going to have to stay in and deliver the ball in the pocket. We need more than just Heyerly to be able to get his own yards. The conference did us no favors to prepare us for the playoffs. It would be nice to get more formations to put in the offense.

This statement completely underestimates how good Busco is. May not have been your intention, but that’s how it seems. That team was as tough as Eastside physically. Busco would likely win every sectional in the north outside of #44. To downgrade AC after beating an extremely tough team - a team that took Eastside to the wire - seems like an overreaction.

Are there things that need to be worked on? Of course. But I’d venture to say every team in the win column tonight would say the same thing.

Busco was good & physical, but they too were predictable on offense. If both teams are going to be that predictable, then you better be sure that you can impose your will. This has been the problem for AC's offense for years. I had to use some other plays & formations at the lower levels as teams were prepared for the same plays we run in HS. The size & physicality MC has on the lines is a threat along with their skill players being able to run or pass. AC's pads game was non existing last night and that's a problem.

What's going to be interesting is what 1A will look like with AC in 2A along with, likely Winamac bouncing back to 2A next go-round due to enrollment.  Assuming LCC and Pioneer hang on to staying in 2A, that takes out plenty of the more recent contenders along with size.  Covenant Christian may well end up 2A via enrollment as well.  All they need is a regional to be bumped up, but they are facing off against Lutheran in sectionals and I think that Lutheran is the odds-on-favorite to not only win that sectional but also represent the south at LOS this season.

Of the "power" teams left, that leaves Lutheran with no chance of worrying about enrollment bump up and, having lost to Covenant Christian in sectionals has no worry about being SF'd even with a blue ring.  'busco and South Adams ... although enrollment could creep on them as well ... and up-and-comer Parke Heritage would remain in 1A as the power trio in 1A.

Of interest is, of all the schools listed here, outside of Lutheran, LCC and Pioneer are the smallest.

Surprised how SA went from 2A down to 1A and seem to be firmly planted there. AC is getting kids transferring and moving in because of their academic standards and excellence. They also are getting rural Bellmont kids after Decatur brought in Chicago residents to town as well. I'd be curious how close Bellmont would be to dropping a class from losing enrollment.  I hate to say it like that, but it's really how the dynamics are playing out in Adams County.

Yep those teams were great, and had physical defenses, but never scored 50 points a game. The edge is in the offense this year for AC the defense is always there

The competition in conference was much better. See Southern Wells and Heritage as you probably know. Also the offensive philosophy we played under wasn't to score 50. It was to grind it out in a long physical & methodical approach. I remember coach telling us in 06 why he was adamant about which direction we would go in the 4th quarter vs SW. SW had to convert a 4th down near mid field to keep their chances alive in the sectional final. There is/was a slight slope and they were going uphill. Biggest play of the game and he's explaining to us underclassmen all of this. Everyone knows that the FB was getting the ball for SW, just if he could be stopped or not. Just before SW breaks the huddle he says something to the effect the FB's tired legs will have trouble getting up that hill with the defense we have called. Sure enough he got stuffed which wasn't normal for him. From that point on, I always felt he was more concerned with time of possession and giving body blows on offense and letting our defense win the game. Also think it was he could then sub more defensive guys into the game as well to limit the wear and tear of the 2 way guys.

I think this is the best team to come out of AC in 20 years, but would dread a matchup with luers.Considering we are 1-12 in semi state games, i would not consider anything free.

The 05 season (06 graduating class) & 06 (07 graduating class) were good teams with talent. You also had the 03 team that didn't finish in semi state after being up by 21 at half I believe. Macklin made the 16-18 teams fun to watch as well.
