    Absolutely!

Also instead of a zoom call, have the coaches anonymously seed the sectionals with a secure return format from 1-8 or 1-4. Then have the IHSAA determine the top 4 in 1-8 sectionals & top 2 on 1-4 sectionals based on those anonymous results. Definitely will need tie breaker scenarios in place going into it. Then have the brackets revealed with pairings show. Maybe have one where the top seeds are revealed beforehand.

  2. My problem with the qualifying format is the headache of scheduling. Schools get pickier on opponents to schedule. This is an issue Ohio teams have for non conference games. Also having conferences as the SOS,you could be hurt by your conference. Leave the all in format as is, and just seed the entire field or seed the top half of the field & random draw the bottom half. A 2A Luers could be beaten by good 5& 6A schools but be the best 2A team in the state and miss the playoffs in a qualifier. Qualifying just sounds like more headaches when seeding is the easier & better fix imo.

Here is a crazy idea, what if the sectionals were not only seeded but what if you had to have a .500 record (or something like that) to be in the tournament at all?  Oh the horror!!!

Indeed, the regular season meaning something, there is a thought.

Nah, just keep the all in and use a system to seed it. Then the regular season still matters. Luers could definitely be below .500 and be a 2A champion. I'd compromise to even seed the tip half of each sectional and random draw the rest.

  4. I'll say I'd rather have an official shortage than some that are out there just for financial reasons. When a comment is made during a middle school game that the amount of pay determines their quality of officiating and youth officials making more than normal but are more concerned about getting games over faster than normal and forgetting whistles and location, I'd take a shortage. High school crew last year in a close sectional semi final (basically the final as 2 best teams were playing) giving a team 4 timeouts and then spending 5+ minutes to figure out spot & timing as well even after that and basically threw their hands up to say they still had no clue. Don't even get me started on the abomination today in Bloomington by a B1G crew that hurt both teams and the game as a whole. I'm thankful for those who are giving their best efforts and are out there for the right reasons (the kids!). I'm fine with errors, but you can tell the ones out there for additional income over doing it for the kids. Don't even want to hear the go sign up excuse as for the common rebuttal. I donate my time in multiple ways already with a young family.

What if this happens?  2022 State Champions

    6a Brownsburg or Center Grove

    5a Whiteland or Bloomington South

    4a New Palestine

    3a Chatard or West Lafayette

    2a Evansville Mater Dei

    1a Indy Lutheran

Fort Wayne could be shut out again, just like last year.  I think only 3 teams north of Logansport have won state in the last 4 years, Andrean in 2021 and in 2018 Pioneer and FW Dwenger

My Jets should have held on to that lead last year but didn't.

If the DE stays home and waits on the QB, NJ is getting 4 yards a pop on you every play.

If he doesn't, they score a 50 yd TD. All depends on the defensive alignment.

Also depends on if the OL can get a push against the DL & ILBs

I don't think Adams Central has played anyone that has near the running game that NJ has. As for coaching and assignments, I hope the coaches are telling the DEs to close on that fullback because if they aren't it would be a long night. I think thats what bias was trying to get at. There have been times the DEs haven't closed and against other teams you can get away with it. I haven't watched any AC football this year other than the Eastside game so I have no idea. I just think thats what he is getting at. If you don't close and take away option number one of the fullback, you are in trouble.

No I mean the DE to stay home and watch the QB to pull it out for an option. The DL and ILB will have control that FB. Triton got burned multiple times with DE crashing in on that FB.

Benson did look like a stud. I expected Allen to be the feature player, but it seems NJ runs their offense through the young fullback. I think assuming that players "forget" their assignment/job is dangerous for people who aren't on the coaching staff. Since I don't think either of us are on the staff, I'd consider the possibility that you're missing something. We don't know the game plan or what the players are being told to do. I don't think any team has taken advantage of our upperclassmen DEs being undisciplined and I think they're decently disciplined.

If the two teams face off against each other again this year, I highly doubt it will be a running clock right out of halftime - or at all for that matter. We can definitely agree on that. I think it would be a fun semistate matchup if it happens. A lot of football has to be played to get there, though.

If you've played football at AC, the defense hasn't ever really changed especially for DE responsibility. The one upperclassmen had been hurt, so I think that was part of his troubles. The other clearly had a few mental breakdowns. Both have cleaned it up the past couple of weeks, but I don't believe I've saw the Freshmen make a mental mistake in their place. The positive about those breakdowns were they were being aggressive when they occurred. Covenant Christian took advantage in the second half and Eastside had a bit the week before. The big concern I have is the AC kickoff coverage. NJ would take advantage of that big time.

Serious question - What would need to happen to remove Southern Wells from the conference?

That would be pretty dumb when you only have 7 schools in the conference with them. Honestly the best scenario would be for Southern Wells and Jay County to change up their districts a bit. Send more Pennville & Northwestern Jay County kids to Southern Wells. Jay County would benefit with lower enrollment as they'd compete in 3A more than 4A. Southern Wells would have more students and hopefully find some more athletes. Southern Wells ended my career on their way to semi state and we had tough battles the other 3 years that we (AC) held on. To me, that's like asking Woodlan to drop out right now or Heritage about 3 or so years ago. AC will have some drop off after this Freshmen class. The MS & youth need some work bc they lost a year or so to Covid.

Possibly, but I'm curious to hear your explanation as to why? AC's defensive strength is its front 7. Teams haven't been able to run on them at all. North Judson is a run-heavy team. If anything, I'd say that plays into the AC defense's strength. I'm not sure how personnel would matchup - maybe North Judson's boys up front are that much tougher than AC's front 7 (although I'd put AC's front 7 against anyone's in 1A)- but AC's defense is better set up to stop what North Judson wants to do than they would be against a passing team.

Benson along with Cheyenne in the backfield with a big line. The QB has improved quite a bit as well. The DE's will have to play disciplined. The two upperclassmen at DE sometimes forget that. They took advantage of Triton's DEs last night when they forgot. Looking at a mirror image in some regards. Where I think the Jets will have an edge, is on offense with speed outside. Triton had some success with that. Still like our Jets, but it will be much different than last year's running clock.

North Judson put the north on notice tonight, blowing out top 10 Triton. Great win for them as they roll into a HUGE matchup against Laville.

The Tri Titans also won a big one against Park Tudor. Some fun matchups around the state and some clear front-runners are established as sectional favorites. Is there any sectional out there that’s truly up for grabs?

Seems like the north will go Park Tudor, North Judson, Carroll Flora and Adams Central. I think AC and NJSP are on a collision course for a rematch from last year. I would enjoy watching that, but would appreciate it being played in Monroe this time!

NJ offense could give us problems in a semi state rematch.

  12. AC vs SA is going to feature strength vs weakness. AC has been good defensively overall, but the secondary has had moments of giving up plays. The guys back there for the most part are getting their first varsity action as Juniors. South Adams has a great passing offense. The question will be if AC's D line & LBs disrupt the SA QB. Now flip side, AC has ran over teams and at times SA has had trouble stopping the run or making tackles like they did last wee vs Jones of MC. AC has also added a passing game. SA secondary has been solid for the most part. I think this one may be closer than most think, but I do believe AC will prevail in the 2nd half.

I disagree on them not being a snub, but I understand your reasoning since they are next in line. Having seen some of Triton's games so far on YouTube, they are 100% a top 10 team, if not higher (I'd place them at 6). The polls ultimately don't mean anything, I understand that. They'll get their chance to in the next few weeks in matchups against Pioneer and North Judson to show whether or not I'm right.

SA will have a couple of pretty solid athletes to stop if they want to win. Does anyone know if MC is strong up front like they usually are? They always have some big dudes.

MC looked to have big guys on the line bit they didn't move well. South Adams threw it well on them. MC just had Jones scramble and he is athletic. SA struggled at times to wrap him up. The Starfires got lackadaisical towards the end and MC made the score look closer than it really was.

Huntington North by 28....tough couple years in Decatur. Does anyone know if there's anything coming up the pipeline?

CC by 14....I feel like the question of "Is CC legit?" is asked every year and recently they have not been.

EN by 7.....can definitely bet on a dogfight.

Norwell by 21.....I took a look at their sectional.....brutal

I've been told that the Bellmont staff is banking on the freshmen class. That class has/had some talent. My question is if the administration is going to wait that long for things to turn around. The middle school teams actually played close games with AC this year. However those middle schoolers didn't get the full youth football experience. I know I've butted heads a bit with the Bellmont staff over the youth program that is/was shared with AC, but really do want them to succeed. The big problem has been prior coaches not wanting to unify the program from youth on up. They did bring in some quality guys to run the youth and middle school. I know I was one of a few blamed for hurting the Bellmont program bc AC's youth beating the Bellmont youth teams and thus a change occurred to join the Wells County league. Not sure either program has had any success in that Wells County league as I've been hands off since that change due to my stepkids playing sports in Ohio for their school.

Can any AC folks confirm if there will be a stream for this week's game?  Berne Witness does not have it listed.  Thanks.

Last I knew they were asking Heritage for permission. Highly doubt Heritage will let them as they didn't last week for SA game or week 1 for Bellmont.
