What does Pioneer bring back?  I don't think NJ or Triton can challenge the Jets.  They have a very strong current sophomore class.

The current AC sophomores that will be Juniors this fall are strong, but only a few have solid varsity minutes. I'm also excited for a few of the Freshmen this fall. NJ has a beast RB/FB that will be a senior. Triton brings back a quality backfield except for one back & others as well. Of course Pioneer, LCC, & Sheridan are AC's kryptonite it seems.

Am I wrong that it originally had Pioneer in 2A last night? Now they're back down to 1A today? Does the IHSAA know where anyone is actually going or will this change again?

  3. My opinion is to use a "timer on" concept like lacrosse used to have to prevent stalling. It eventually just went to a long shot clock. For the most part it is a non-factor as it's around 80 seconds now & resets when a shot on goal occurs (believe that's accurate but could be wrong). The timer on would be a great compromise. No official shot clock, but also prevents absurd stalling from occurring.

    And if I can remember.

This was the year that Kevin Keirmaier saved them in the Baseball Sectional Final (with 2 outs).  And got himself a scholarship to Parkland JC.  The rest as they say.....IS HISTORY!

I believe the rain may have helped as well against my classmates and grade older than me if remembering right.

Adams Central (22 sectionals) and Sheridan (19 sectionals) both eliminated. No way.

Our (Adams Central) problem has always been semi state. 2-12 record I believe. Ran into some talented Pioneer, LCC, and Sheridan teams to name a few. This year it was state that tripped us up. How many titles or runner-up finishes could there have been (besides 1 a piece) if that semi state record was better?

A lot of the youth league stuff in the area tends to be Sundays to allow for the use of the high school fields with no need for worrying about potential conflicts since IHSAA doesn't allow high school stuff on the Sundays.

I'm not so sure about conference-based in Harrison's case though as last season, Harrison's JV only played three games with NCC opponents and, the season before, it only ended up being two games within conference.

This area stays away from Sunday & Wednesdays as much as possible bc of church activities. Interesting to see the differences throughout the state.

I agree that Saturdays seem to have been the call for JV recently ... at least up north here.  I don't know if that's tied to class or not.  Harrison has, for the most part, played the bulk of its JV games on Saturdays.

Feel like it's conference based for the most part. I know Bellmont used to do Saturday mornings in the NHC but I think it moved when the NE8 formed. Could be wrong but our youth games moved from practice field to HS fields after that change. ACAC had been Mondays unless that has changed.

    Neutral SS games?  Eh.

Rather have Saturday night games for those teams that need to travel.

Take it out of the school’s hands.

Make all SS games Saturday evening.

    ***heard the ignore feature works.***

Rather Indiana stays Friday nights and the Divisions in Ohio that play Saturdays stay the same. It could help my traveling in the future.

  9. Love to see turf college fields that can be close to halfway for each participant. Ohio has little issues finding HS turf fields that are halfway points or close to it. I believe they all bid or request to host a playoff game or games in the preseason. I'd love for regional and semi state games to be neutral locations. Sectionals to be seeded with home field advantage to higher seeded teams. It would make the regular season even more valuable. (Determining seeds could be difficult.)

  10. Having coached youth football, the problems come from not using any proper fundamentals when tackling. It comes when kids do not wrap when tackling. They try to big hit or "hit stick" by just throwing themselves at a runner. They aren't coordinated and thus their head gets put in a bad spot. When they use the old school proper technique I have yet to see it personally. The Seahawks tackling I'd maybe use as a secondary technique as I see some flaws. It still has hitting with the shoulder near the head & neck area. Big thing is that kids & adults do not watch the belly button and stay on the back hip when pursuing. That's a major problem as well.

The have regional play with the winners advancing to a "bowl" type final.    They have an open division and seven other divisions with two classes in each division.   Those divisions and classes are based on a group of individuals who create all the match-ups.     The biggest downfall to this system is that the best teams in the state are eliminated in regional play.    This year, the best four teams in the state, Mater Dei, Servite, Bosco and Cen10 were in the same regional.    Made for some great games in that regional but the bowl games are somewhat anticlimactic.    Santa Ana Mater Dei won the Southern Section Division 1 Regional beating both Servite and Cen10.    In the final game of the season, the "Open" championship, they play San Mateo Serra.    Serra is a good team, but Mater Dei wins this game without much trouble.

Thanks for breaking it down. I was looking at it to see how the team in a town I'd like to winter in for retirement in 30 years did. Believe they were in 7A or 7AA. They lost in the semis.

The mighty, mighty Eagles of Lakewood St. Edward take on Springfield in the main event. If they win, that will give the Eagles 5 titles in the last 12 seasons.

I honestly don't pay attention to Divisions 1 & 3 over in Ohio. Hardly any teams in NW/WC OH in those divisions. Sort of similar to 6A-4A here, unless one of our NE/EC IN teams are representing. About 20 counties in Indiana and 20 in Ohio I mark as those areas. Northridge would technically count in my 20 area county teams as well. So kudos to them for a runner up trophy as well.

  13. This weekend is the OHSAA state finals in Canton. On Saturday we will have 3 MAC schools competing for a state championship. 2 from Mercer County which borders Adams & Jay in Indiana, and 1 from Darke that borders Jay & Randolph in Indiana. Hopefully they all can win, but any hardware is always nice. Another year both sides will bring hardware home. South Adams last year and Adams Central this year with runner up trophies. Last year Ohio brought 3 championships home with Van Wert, Coldwater, and New Bremen. This year Marion Local, Coldwater, and Versailles will try to bring titles home. NW/WC Ohio doing well and NE/EC IN starting to get back on track.

AC fans.  After 5 weeks of constant (and needless) “wringing of hands”, u finally have something to be legitimately worried about.  The inevitable matchup is here.  Lutheran QB is as good as Davis from Eastside.  But… they spread u out unlike Eastside.  The TB is better than Eastside FB.  Overall they’re better than ES.  Thanks to Tri they just played a wing T offense and seemed to figure it out later in the game.  Tri seemed to run wingT with a bit more creativity than what AC runs.  Secondary looks solid.  Handled  Scecina who just lost in 2A semis.  John Harrel has AC -3?  U buying that?

Don't care. We made it to LOS. They're bringing hardware back either way. We have the Championship trophy from 2000. If we win awesome, if not then that's fine as well. My thing was them making it as far as they should have. This team, it was the state trip. We didn't have a Pioneer or LCC preventing a trip. Why I was agitated after rd 1 win over Busco. That type of game is always how the Busco matchups go. I'd like to see more creativity against them and the Southwoods & Northfields. Heard all year that Lutheran and CC winner would be the Championship favorite. Attica & Josh Smith were as well. Screw the coin flip, let's just wear the white jerseys and treat it like an away game. We are playing Lutheran in Indy and they've been #1. Play the game Friday and let the chips fall where they may. Only 11 other teams are playing this week.
