  1. How in the world - does the sideline official on the S.A. sideline - NOT see a player (in this instance #2) run streaking past him and not decipher that this was a "hidden player" scenario??? Man - you guys really do like defending your own. I get it now - no one (not Bobref, not JustRules, ) is EVER going to say "THIS OFFICIATING CREW BLEW IT BIGTIME" - cause obviously, they don't want it done back to them in return. I understand...I defend coaches all the time cause unless you've experienced it - you have no idea. This just seems so procedural and in SUCH a big spot... Duke basketball is probably saying the same thing.
  2. Whoa whoa whoa.....you're telling me - after a PLAYER dang near ran off from the sideline to catch a TD pass - that the ref crew can't get together and say "hey, what the heck happened there?? That player seemed to come from the sideline" Come on...a little common sense here - otherwise every freaking team in America will be running players from off the sideline to catch a pass. And then when flagged - will respond "But did you ACTUALLY see it???" Come on now...
  3. Not gonna shed a tear one way or another. We lived a pretty tough route for years in 2A (Mater Dei, Linton, etc...), has been about the same ( or tougher) in 3A. This has never been about that - it's been about pointing out the glaring obvious without saying it out loud. We don't publicly shame on the GID, but if you're smart enough, you can put the pieces of the puzzle together.
  4. That's how THEY will justify it (I've been in this game long enough to know that) - but it doesn't hold water or make much LOGICAL sense when you actually start comparing drive times The true explanation is much simpler - and much more slimy.
  5. Good question - not sure there was a great answer either way. (You might even have to bring 30 or 29 into the equation for a total rebuild) Looks like they went with the North/South separation for these 2...I (personally) would tend to lean to the East/West version of things- simply by drive times. For example - Mt. Vernon to Corydon and/or North Harrison is quite the hall compared to going to VL or Washington. The longest drive in the current format is 2 hours, 9 minutes The longest drive if you go East/West is 2 hours, 6 minutes So that's not much difference (obviously) - for me, it is more about the appearance of one school (on the committee) trying to avoid a sectional. Might not be true - but seems that way.
  6. If you look over the Executive Committee - it is really not that hard to figure out. I could have told you (within a team or so) whose sectional a certain school would/would not be in. And that's a shame really....
  7. BINGO - this was all I was ever looking for from the start from our resident "evaluator" of officials - Mr. Bobref. (And don't get me wrong - I greatly appreciate Bob's help on this sight - I have asked him many of questions on different topics) However instead what I heard was "Talked with the Crew chief - LEGAL PLAY ALL THE WAY" (Bob's own words) ....yikes. Wait.a.second. I understand we all miss stuff - make mistakes. The magnitude of this play (swung the game to South Adams...you could make an argument they don't win without this play as I believe it was the deciding score)...in a semi-state level game- I would hope the crew would come together after this play and get it right. And a lack of acknowledgment (instead a defense was mounted on behalf of the crew) of the mistake - especially from our top brass (Bobref) - I believe does a disservice to all officials. I get "wanting to protect your own" - but - acknowledging " yup- we screwed this one up big time" is also a chance for growth. I've been disappointed in that regard.
  8. Stupid is as stupid does. Not surprised - but am really starting to question the integrity of the process/committees. How some of the people I've met have sat on important committees ...I guess this is what people mean when they say "old boys club" and "have's and have-not's?" and all that?? Anyway ...
  9. HAHAHA - nicely played!! (And...maybe not too far from the truth!)
  10. This has now turned into a JFK/Zapruder- like conspiracy for me. The silence screams out conspiracy at the highest levels...shame on everyone involved!
  11. 1st of all - I hope New Pal beats the brakes off them - that would be awesome. Secondly - to my broader point about banning together like Texas and Georgia and NOT playing these prep academies - IMO, playing these schools, you are in "support" of their concept and structure. Being a life-long educator, I don't agree with the model- thus I don't want to support it nor do I want Indiana schools supporting it. It really centers around for me that I don't agree with or like the model of school IMG promotes.....I don't think it's "education-based athletics" .....don't think they have allegiance to their school/community, etc... Not to mention the potential for them to poach players....but I know that happens regardless of school model.
  12. It doesn't at all. My point is - after giving it some thought - moving forward - I think it would behoove us coaches to consider a similar stance that States like Texas and Georgia have taken.
  13. Mine was just a personal opinion on not being in support of prep Academies like IMG and La Lumerie - think they undermine the high school experience and after giving it more thought - think we - as high school football coaches - should take a stand like TX and GA and tell them to get lost. Not mad at New Pal for picking up the game in the least...mine was more of a generalized statement and honestly, hadnt given it much thought before today.
  14. After giving it some thought - I think we should (Indiana) take a similar approach that TX and GA have and say no games with these prep school Academies. I don't (personally) agree with the model, so I don't want to help give it traction.
  15. Nice to hear from you Bob - that quit ducking the question still lingering in the officiating forum!
  16. Thank you....and scrolling through their scores - it doesn't appear they play any Indiana HS basketball teams. Is that by their design - or by ours (coaches and/or IHSAA?) Obviously- football hasn't taken that stance (didn't Ben Davis play IMG not too long ago?) ....maybe we should?
  17. Interesting that certain States in the U.S. have taken a stance (either officially or unofficially) from playing IMG...(would they be considered a "prep school"??) Would you guys be in favor of such a stance here in Indiana?? I think I would.... An as an aside - doesn't Indiana have one of these pretty prestigious prep school up in Northern Indiana for basketball?? Who do they play all year?? Any Indiana schools?
  18. Actually Bob did say that he spoke with the crew chief - and the crew chief mentioned the pregame talk with the coach and explanation of the play. So yes it has been mentioned. I just don't understand why it is so hard to say "Yup - we screwed this one up big time." It happens...
  19. Is there somewhere we can see who is on the Executive Committee?
  20. My conspiracy regarding this: It's illegal. It's a "hidden player" scenario ran in a huge, semi-state level game. By Bob's own admission earlier in this thread- "hideout" plays have been illegal for quite some time. Bob checked with the crew chief (again, by his own admission) - and the crew chief gave Bob a plausible explanation for why they allowed the play. Video evidence (as captured by screenshots in this thread) strongly contradicts the explanation given by the crew chief. Nobody wants to admit blame....Bob doesn't want to admit he was either : 1. Lied to ......2. A semi-state official doesn't know the rules....... If I'm North Miami, I would be pretty upset this was allowed by the officiating crew.
  21. Sounds familiar
  22. Factors for this?? Is this something a new coach could improve upon??
  23. Bring back RJ!!!
  24. Still bothers me…
  25. Care to give us the cliff notes version for those of us that can't access it??
