Fair question - and no - I don't have any "deep-seeded" (see what I did there?) issue against grass lol. Have it in my yard...heck I've spent time working at a golf course on the grounds crew. I've said it a million times - I just don't think championship level games should be played in muddy slop-fest of a field when again - it CAN be avoided. I don't remember the years- but I know there have been postseason games MOVED because both teams agreed ....(think it was Monrovia and somebody that comes to mind?)and those teams wanted to know who was the better team (that night) and not have the game affected by field conditions.
-
I will admit full heartedly that in Championship level games - yes - I would like to see the better team (that night) determine who is the winner - and not things like a muddy field. Some variables can't be helped - but this one could and in my opinion - should. As far as the published study - you can twist statistics anyway you want....we just had 3 real life examples - but you choose to ignore those.

You know what I noticed?? Game is being played in an absolute downpour - yet the student-athletes are still able to keep their footing and play a game that somewhat resembles football. Now imagine that game - a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP level game - being played in that same downpour on a grass field and ask yourself if that play even happens?? People that continue to want Championship level games (sectional, regional, semi-state) to be played on grass because "that's the way it is supposed to be" make about enough sense to me as the people who say "cause that's the way we've always done it" (i.e. worse argument of all time)

When Victory Formation isn't
jets replied to gindie's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Let me see if I can play this out: 34 seconds remaining- 1st down (as show in the clip)- Run play (a knee)...takes 2 seconds off clock (32 seconds) - penalty called (clock stops) 2nd down- 32 seconds now remain- take a knee (2 seconds off clock - 30 seconds remain) - timeout 3rd down - 30 seconds now remain - take a knee (2 seconds off clock- 28 seconds remain) - timeout 4th down - 28 seconds remain - shank a punt (6 seconds off clock - 22 seconds now remain) - opposing team now has the ball. I'm not sure if you actually ran plays (assuming 5 seconds a play)...it plays out any differently. Now, if you get the first time - obviously game over. So after my CSI investigation - yes - this falls on the coaches. -
When Victory Formation isn't

So from just the little I see on the X clip ...there are 34 seconds remaining and it says 1st down when the kids throws his helmet in the air. SO- that penalty really didn't have any bearing in the outcome...the SHAW team had to punt on 4th down with about 20 seconds remaining - so sans to reason the other team still had 3 timeouts and used them. What am I missing ?? -

They still play on a natural grass surface -
Being from around here - I remember the heat being REAL hot on Coach after that 2013 season. Duplicating what Clayton did was going to be impossible, but I'm glad he got the ship righted and people backed off (a bit at least). Coach Wilk is a great dude...hope he enjoys whatever is next for him. Ha....Boonville was adamant they didn't want to be a member of the SIAC - but have no problem scheduling Bosse and Central in their open weeks. I better not type out the rest of what I'm thinking...

Offseason Topics of Discussion
jets replied to jets's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
That's a nice thought in theory - but trust me - there is a chain-of-command even when it comes to communication. The IHSAA "brass" doesn't want to hear from coaches (per se) - they want to hear from the representatives of the IFCA. If you do try and voice a concern, you'll be met with a cookie cutter "appreciate your thoughts, please pass those along to your IFCA representative at your next meeting." And the world goes round and round -

In my opinion - Championship level games deserve championship level facilities/playing surfaces. Why do we reward the best ref crews with the highest level games? Why do we play the State Finals at the best football field in the State?? If we can (and yes, we can), sectional championships and on up should be played on turf fields. IU, Notre Dame, the Colts all realize this - Purdue is dumb lol... -

OK - as you wish "Postseason Championship games should ONLY be played on turf fields - no grass fields." -
In your opinion - what offseason issue/topic should the IHSAA and the IFCA try and fix/take-on?? My "wish-list" - in order of priority- would be: 1. SEEDING the postseason tourney. Having a wrestling background - it is so stinking simple- I don't know why we continually make the regular season "meaningless" (I know it is not - but you get my point. Imagine the NCAA basketball tourney just "blind draw" it...or the CFP. They don't, and there is a reason they don't.) 2. Postseason Championship games being allowed to be played on less than adequate field conditions. This too I believe is an easy fix. 3. I think I'm fine with the Success Factor as is - kuddos on the IHSAA for making it a "rolling" cycle and not a fix'd one...makes a lot more sense. -Other than that, I believe the sport is in a great spot. What would your list be??

This poor announcer was in the 2A game. His head is spinning along with the Brownstown offense lol… It should be a requirement if you’re calling a STATE FINALS game- you at least have a clue on the offense lol
-
Of course…didn’t mean to imply it was a poorly officiated game (as I didn’t think it was)- but that’s a BIG one to miss in that spot.
-
One player signals for fair catch…another catches it and runs- refs absolutely paying no attention
-
What about the missed fair catch signal on that kickoff??
-
How do officials miss that illegal fair catch signal on that kickoff??
-
It bothers me how quiet the officiating community has been in response to this play.
-
I don't know exactly what this is in reference to - but RIP ol Coach - he was one of a kind.
-
Has Brownstown finally made the switch to road whites??? I’ll never forget (although I do forget the year…maybe 2004?) when they came strolling into town for a Regional and had Red jerseys on. Lol…the officials were flummoxed to say the least. I don’t remember exactly what the solution was- but believe the rule was made the following year that visitors must be in white lol Best of luck to Coach May and the Braves!! If anyone deserves it- it is Coach May
-
Teams can nominate an unlimited number of players and there is no set number for X amount.
-
I agree- I wasn’t exactly sure what the rule stated (why I started the thread asking for clarification)- but am a little disappointed it hasn’t been further explained/or just admitted- “yup, we blew that one in a BIG WAY in a BIG GAME.” We’re human, it can happen…but feels a bit like a “cover for your own” type of deal in the responses.

4A Semi-State #4 Heritage Hills @ #1 Roncalli
jets replied to HHPatriots's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I could be wrong- but I don’t remember him wrestling last season? And word on the street is he’s graduating early to be a participate in spring practices….dont know if the injury will change that timeline -
As I watched it- it seemed to violate the rules- why I asked.
