I don’t usually listen to that stuff, because all you get is “coachspeak,” but I heard part of an interview with Coach Eberflus today. Honestly, listening to him butcher the language, and struggle to complete a thought, made me yearn for Dave Wannstedt.

Incidentally, little known fact. Wannstedt was the model for the bust outside the International Bad Mustache Hall of Fame.

The procedure is exactly the same at all 3 levels of football. If it’s close, you may give the offender the courtesy of a warning. But if it’s blatant, you’ve got to call it … especially in a nationally televised game at that level. I mean, think what the narrative would have been like today if he doesn’t throw that flag. Do you think no one is going to pick up on the fact that Toney lined up in the NZ? It would be going viral before the crew got off the field. Think about sitting in the film room with your supervisor having to watch it on video … over and over and over …. In other words, think about it from the official’s perspective. It’s a no brainer.

Jason Grunewald has resigned as the 3rd HFC in the 57 years of the program at Munster. The Mustangs have not had a winning season since 2014. Time for a program reset.

The CFP is not an NCAA championship. It’s an entertainment venture. Their charter says the goal is to get the 4 best teams in the country, so as to maximize the entertainment value of the events. Given their objective, I think they got it exactly right.

Great job by all 6 crews.  I just have one call that I wonder about.  2A game 1st half(I think 1st Qtr).  NP going south to north.  NP attempts a long pass near their sideline.  The pass is ruled a catch.  I wasn't sure if the player that caught the ball may have stepped out of bounds and then made the catch.  It would have been a tough call to make as I was watching from north end zone right on that sideline.  Your brother was a lot closer than I was.

Don’t remember the play, and I don’t recall anyone talking about it.

As an aside, the high school rule on that play is different from NCAA and NFL. In high school, if the receiver has voluntarily gone out of bounds and then returned to the field of play, he remains an eligible receiver, but is guilty of illegal participation, a 15 yd. penalty. So, you could have a situation where the receiver steps out of bounds, returns, and is then a victim of pass interference, resulting in a double foul, requiring an offset and replay.

No offense taken. Shouldn’t be any surprise. Pro and college players are better than high school players. No reason to think that officiating wouldn’t work the same way.

That’s because there is no “across the board.” That’s why the success factor is the best solution. A multiplier or a class bump treats all P/Ps the same, and that does not reflect reality. In what universe are Chatard and Bishop Noll to be treated alike in order to level the playing field? The success factor (at least, conceptually) identifies those programs that traditionally punch above their weight class and moves them into the class where history says they belong.

A few years ago, the National Federation added the following to the rule book:

“A state association may create instant-replay procedures that permit game or replay officials to use a replay monitor during state postseason contests to determine if a decision by the on-field game officials is incorrect.”

So, it’s up to the IHSAA. At present, the IHSAA is firmly against the use of replay.

Just for comparison purposes, St. Ed’s beat Hoban 14-7 in Akron. Massillon Washington gave the Eagles their only loss of the season 15-13 in Massillon. The Eagles starting QB sat that one out with a knee injury sustained the previous week at Elder.

A travesty? Sounds like for every kid the State uses vouchers on, Mr. Taxpayer’s burden is lessened. You ought to be championing the use of vouchers. Or you can look at it this way: if vouchers were eliminated, every kid who goes to a public school who would have gone to a p/p under the voucher program increases the tax burden.
