  1. You've got to admire a guy who is willing to accept a challenge like that. The $10+ million a year probably doesn’t hurt, either. Washington will always be a red-headed stepchild in the B1G. Now he’s at the marquee school in the marquee conference. Guy’s definitely got some big ones!

  2. I understand that of the 8 officials on this crew, 6 of them have been assigned to work on Wild Card weekend. If the League thought these officials made such a huge miss in that game, I doubt that would be the case.

You've been bullish on Fields all year. Are you not concerend about him consistently not finding the open WR's when he does have time to throw? Or do you think the combo of Getsy and Nagy ruined him? I honestly can't remember if he was throwing WR's open at Ohio State are just alway benefited from having great pass protection and WR's who were always open. I love his arm and running ability. But, the Bears are giving up good trade value now if the new OC/QB coach are telling Poles after next season that he just can't read a defense and the Bears let him walk as a FA.

As always, the question is whether he will progress to the point where the game slows down for him in the pocket. And what’s the alternative? Wasting a #1 pick on a relatively immobile unknown quantity who you can’t protect? You know they’re going to throw him out there from Day 1.

How can they get Alt at 9?

You’re right that they can’t both take Williams with the #1 and get Alt at #9. Here’s what I’d like to see, in order of priority:

    1. Keep Fields, which would make the upcoming OC and QB coach hires even more important. I think, with the right coaching, Fields can be a bigger Lamar Jackson. He was a better passer than Jackson in college. No reason he can’t get there at this level. Drafting Caleb Williams - who is not nearly as mobile as Fields- without getting major upgrades in the OL would be just setting him up for failure.
    2. Trade down with the #1 pick to get additional draft capital. Combine that with that #9 pick, and get Marvin Harrison, Jr. and the best offensive tackle available.
    3. Use remaining draft capital and salary cap room to address edge rusher, LB depth and remaining OL issues.

OL still is AWFUL, depth is atrocious

It looks like they’re going to trade Fields and, if that’s the case, it amounts to resetting the rookie pay scale clock. They’ll draft Caleb Williams (a mistake, IMO) and then, hopefully use the salary cap relief and the capital they acquire by trading Fields to address those concerns. I’ll say it again, Joe Alt would look good in a Bears’ uniform.

I even made a couple of pilgrimages to the Big House during my years there.  It was an ugly hole in the ground.  Big, sure, but an ugly dump just the same.

Many years ago when my older daughter was a high school cheerleader, their squad competed in a cheer competition at U of M. When I was talking with her afterward, she told me that their bus arrived early enough that they drove around the campus a bit. I asked if she got to see The Big House. She said they did. I asked her what she thought of it. Direct quote: “It’s a dump filled with losers.” Talk about a proud Dad!

Im a guy who wants the best football coaches in the profession to have their craft at the highest level, which is the NFL.

    Just my preference

Agreed. Also, Harbaugh is clearly better suited to the NFL, where he doesn’t have to deal with that pesky NCAA.

don't have a copy of the NFL rule book, but we are fortunate to have several NFL officials in Indiana who know the rules. They've shared with me you can report either verblly or physically.

Amazing. In all the heat and light this play generated, I have not seen one player, Coach, talking head, journalist, etc., mention this critical factor in analyzing what went wrong. It’s much easier when you just put the blinders on so that you examine the play only superficially, rather than really digging in and gathering the necessary facts. Much easier to just pile on the officials.

Sometimes the hardest thing to know … is what you don’t know. Wouldn’t you agree @Footballking16 and @Bash Riprock?

  9. I bet I can predict @temptation’s response: “Paul Finebaum is sports talk radio’s Gregg Doyel.” 😂

Paul Finebaum Makes SHOCKING Declaration On The Future Of Jim Harbaugh … Will He Stay Or Go??

Appearing on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Paul Finebaum made a bold statement about Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh’s future.

Finebaum confidently declared that Monday’s national championship game would mark the end of Harbaugh’s coaching tenure in Ann Arbor, win or lose.

Finebaum anchored his prediction on the uncertainty surrounding Michigan’s football program, citing the looming possibility of further NCAA disciplinary actions.

“He’s already accomplished what he set out to do, and that’s make Michigan relevant again,” Finebaum said. “Three straight [College Football] Playoff appearances and a national title game is relevant.”

“But that’s not the real reason. He’s got the NCAA around the corner, and people are saying, ‘Hasn’t the NCAA already been there?’ Yeah, we know the narrative,” he added.

Harbaugh is expected to be at the top of several NFL owner’s wish lists … He also recently hired noted agent Don Yee, who has represented the likes of Tom Brady and Sean Payton.

As Adam Schefter of ESPN noted, you don’t hire Don Yee to negotiate a contract extension at Michigan … In other words, Harbaugh to the NFL seems more likely than ever.

“It’s pretty simple. If you have a shot at four NFL franchises and they’re coveting you, and on the other hand, you’re facing the NCAA after you’ve already accomplished pretty much everything you’ve set out to do, it’s a very easy answer. He is leaving Michigan after next Monday night,” Finebaum said.

When asked about his future following Michigan’s dramatic Rose Bowl win over Alabama, Harbaugh said: “My future consists of a happy flight back to Ann Arbor, Michigan.”

One thing is for absolute certainty – If Monday is indeed Harbaugh’s last game at Michigan, he sure as hell wants to make sure he goes out with a win.

What do you think will end up happening?

Will Harbaugh stay with the Wolverines?

Will he leave for the NFL?

Or will he use the NFL for leverage, flirt with as many teams as he can, and then come back to sign a massive contract extension in Ann Arbor???

A free education is no longer good enough? "We brought you here to play football and get an education that other students are going deep into debt for. Play in the bowl game or pay us back for the last semester."

Those days are long gone, and they ain’t coming’ back. Economics dictated the rise of the current open market. There’s no putting that genie back in the bottle.

We are headed down the path of contracts for college athletes. This will reduce the opt outs.  The bigger issue is the portal window opening before the bowl games.  The opt outs are a much smaller piece of the pie than the portal players.

If it goes that way, it makes the athletes sound a lot like university employees. Can’t wait to go down that rabbit hole: worker’s compensation, disability insurance, unionization, job actions, etc. Exciting times coming!
