The SF Giants will be wearing “pride colors” on their uniforms this weekend, to celebrate “Pride Week.” One of their top pitchers, Johnny Cueto, is scheduled to start Sunday. He has informed Giants’ management that this amounts to tacit approval of the LGBTQ lifestyle, which is expressly contrary to his sincerely-held religious beliefs. MLB rules require all players on a team to participate wearing the same uniforms. You’re Giants’ management. What do you do?

I understand the desire to reduce the number of kickoff returns as part of.a risk minimization strategy. But why do that using arbitrary requirements like whether the kick has been grounded, before or after crossing the plane? If that’s what you’re trying to accomplish, just change the rule to allow each team to elect to make 1 kickoff return per game. Every other time they just get the ball 1st down on the 25.

Not sure what sort of overlap there is between the City and the school corporation. To all outward appearances, there is none. It’s a 7-member school board, all elected, none appointed by the mayor, like some places. So, I fail to see how the mayor gets either credit or blame for the decisions of the school corporation.

In fairness to South Bend, consolidation at the high school level is a massive undertaking, often involving personnel, facility, transportation, and capital spending decisions. Pushing the athletic programs to a higher level, is the least of the concerns.

Agreed, but the intriguing question for me is “what is the face-saving gesture the Packers are going to have to make so that Rodgers can declare victory and go back to work.” Because he doesn’t strike me as the type of guy to just swallow hard and admit defeat.

Not sure I understand what you mean.The determination whether it is a touchback is made before the player either runs it out or downs it. One doesn’t have anything to do with the other.

So, Rodgers doesn’t show up to OTAs. No surprise there. But 4 wide receivers didn’t show up either. Message delivered. The question is, assuming the Packers’ front office received the message, is there anything they can do about it. The WRs’ message was “we want Rodgers throwing to us when the season starts.” Is there any way the Packers can mollify Rogers short of firing the GM, which is not going to happen? Go get Julio Jones?

It now appears that depositions in these cases will begin in September, and that depositions of the 22 accusers will be completed before Watson has to give his deposition. I heard he will not have to testify at least until February, when the season is over. This is a tactical victory for the defense because he will hear what they all have to say before he is placed under oath. I have not read anything about a “gag” order (no pun intended) being imposed, and that would be highly unusual in a civil case. So, as these women testify, details of their testimony are going to leak out. Probably just about the time the season gets underway. I find it interesting that Watson doesn’t have to testify until the season is over ... but the odds are no better than 50-50 that he will play at all. Between his demand that the Texans trade him — and the fact that he’s radioactive now means that’s unlikely to happen — and the looming Commissioner’s exempt list, there’s a good chance he never sees the field this year.

Notre Dame is projected to head to the Fiesta Bowl to take on the Sun Belt kings — the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Before we get any further into this discussion, please keep in mind that I did NOT — in fact — find a loss on Notre Dame’s schedule, and think 11-1 is the floor for the Irish. Having said that... this is perfectly fine. To start with, at worst, this projection means the Irish went 10-2 during the regular season. That would make it 5 years straight with double digit wins. Go ahead and look what the Irish did from 1994-2016 before you roll your eyes, and then get back to me. Now let’s get to that large elephant in the room — and I ain’t talking about the Alabama Crimson Tide elephant men. Notre Dame hasn’t won a New Year’s 6 bowl game since January 1, 1994. The very next season, the Irish went 6-4-1 and received an invitation to the Fiesta Bowl to play the #4 Colorado Buffaloes. The Irish had NO BUSINESS being invited to that game, and were wiped out 41-24 while wearing the green jerseys. That game cause a crack in space and time, and a demon creature was released from the abyss to curse the Irish in all future New Years Six games. In all, the Irish are 0-9 in New Years 6 games (which includes the BCS Championship in 2012) since the Cotton Bowl win from the 1993 season. Someway and somehow, the Irish need to break this curse. For a lot of those New Years 6 losses, the Irish played a terrible draw against a great team, while watching other schools get themselves a NY6 win over some team with 4 losses that snuck in because of conference tie-in stuff. So, yeah... I wouldn’t mind an easier task in playing Coastal rather than a school that just missed the playoffs. Sometimes you just have to get the monkey off of your back, or goat, or whatever the hell it is. Am I selling Coastal short? Maybe, but I’ll deal with that later. An 11-2 Notre Dame team with a Fiesta Bowl win breaks the Colorado curse — so we can finally move on. Also... it’s still May.

The rationale seems to be “Since we’ve been there so long, and become entrenched, if we pull out, that will create a vacuum, and what will likely flow into that vacuum is something not in the best interests of the USA.” The fallacy here is that somehow, someday, some faction will come along to occupy that space consonant with US interests. That has never happened in the history of the world on anything approaching a long term basis. We ought to have learned that lesson by now. You don’t put US boots on the ground somewhere without an exit strategy firmly in place.
