NEW MEXICO HS FOOTBALL to the Spring

Add to that all the Hammond Schools. -
“Favorite” bands is, of course, highly subjective, and shouldn’t be confused with “best” bands ... because that issue was well-settled long ago. Personal favorites: Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys, The Who, Zeppelin.

Then, I guess I’m an old fuddy-duddy. In 42 seasons of officiating, I’ve never called a coach by his first name on the field. As long as I can still get out there to observe, I’ll never address a coach that way, regardless of how well I know him. Aside from the respect factor, there’s another reason. If I call one coach by his first name, I need to call all coaches by their first name, regardless of how well I know them. If you’re the coach of team A, and I refer to you as coach Smith, but I refer to the coach of B as coach Bob, what is coach Smith going to think about that? Given the level of paranoia some coaches have about officials, I guarantee that would be an issue.

Should we return to play on schedule?

The IHSAA has advised officials that they can opt out of working in the 2020 season without penalty. Seniority, tournament history, ratings, tournament level eligibility, etc., for the 2021 season will not be affected. -
Never thought about it. Probably, rubber bands. But I like sweat bands, too.

If I had to make a guess, I’d say no. But that’s only because I think there are going to be a fair number of games canceled this year.

This came from assistant commissioner Faulkens today for distribution to all officials: All, Please pass this information along to your Association members. Early last week, we began the process of contacting crews regarding their activity and tournament eligibility. Some crews have decided not to work this season. Please know that your safety is of utmost importance to us. If you make the decision to not work this year let us know as quickly as you make the decision. And when you do, please take the following steps: Contact the schools where you have accepted games and inform them of your intentions. Make every effort to find a replacement crew. Send me an email noting your intent to sit this season out. Finally, I can certainly respect the decision to not work given current circumstances. Please note that this will not have an impact on your tournament eligibility. Your eligibility will remain at the level you would have been for this season. If you and your crew are Regional eligible this year, you and your crew will be Regional eligible when you return next year.

Hey Bellmont - Whats with the schedule?

Do you mean “the talent is in our building ... but not on the team?” -
I agree with you philosophically. However, this was not — as is usually the case — a situation of short-sighted planning. This was truly unforeseeable, and the shortfall represents money that has, in essence, already been spent. My only real concern is a practical concern: once you give the government something, it can be awfully hard to get it back when the crisis is over.

I think I spot a trend.

No link. But this is starting to look like the “Death of a Thousand Cuts.”

And with New York being such a mess, and sharing a border with Canada, I bet this means they are going to extend the border closure again. The current extension expires July 20, and I’m supposed to take a trip there the 24th. I’ve rescheduled twice already. If there’s another extension, that will push any reopening date into football season ... and my vacation is toast. 🤬🤯😓

Planning is essential. But that is not to minimize the difficulty in planning for something like this. There are so many uncontrolled — and uncontrollable — variables that any “plan” is going to have to be highly flexible to meet unforeseen circumstances. Remember what that great philosopher Mike Tyson said:

Sexist pig. 😄 The “Cancel Culture” will be coming after your playbook next! -
I hope you’re right.
