You look at it incorrectly.  It’s really this simple…it’s hard for the other team to score when they don’t have the ball.  By keeping a dynamic offense off the field you not only slowly demoralize their defense…their offense is on the sideline tightening up.  There are many ways to play a football game and I’m certainly not saying theirs is my favorite.  But it is effective and it certainly is NOT playing to not lose.  People who don’t like their style of play also probably want a shot clock in high school basketball.

I think every team wants this in some capacity and HH is certainly well disciplined…I just think that the whole eating clock thing is overstated…and the box scores from previous matchups are all over the place with the last HH win being a game where GS actually won the time of possession 26min to 22min

maybe I’m overstating though too and I’m not afraid to admit that if it is the case.  the GS offense has been high scoring for a while and it can force teams to play faster if they are down a score

in my mind, playing to run out the clock is playing to not lose…and I certainly don’t think HH is a team that plays to not lose

It doesn't matter.  The idea of "we have to keep GS off the field" is a worthless thought.  GS scored 60 pts on Southridge in 13 minutes in the regular season.  Our DBs have to play flawlessly.  D can't get bigger, they have to get meaner.  We had 165 lb D lineman 15/20 years ago that committed homicide every play on guys that were 100 lbs bigger.  That is the attitude needed Friday.

If I'm HH and win the toss, I defer and bring the house on the first play to try to "get the Quarterback" as half the people in the stands always yell during every game...  LOL.

Yup, great idea--then you get burnt on a 9 route that goes to the house.  I'll pass on that....#18 would love some of that action as would the 270 lb lineman.

GS vs HH.....I'm going to predict a halfback pass type of play at some point in the game from HH.  I have a gut feeling. 🙂

Indeed....but if you were really good at this, who will be throwing this said pass????

The game all expected and most wanted.....I'm looking forward to heading to Jack Jewell.

The class of 2022 is a STRONG class…depending on the site, there are 10 4 Star kids with 2 guys (Curry & Goodwin) as possible 5 Star guys.

but I gotta ask….how much of this is actually done with a process and what even goes into it.

the reason I bring this up is because Rory Heltsley on Gibson Southern has an offer from Air Force and 3 FCS offers to go with it….he has 60 or so catches for 1100 yards and 19 TDs on the year…kid is exceeding all the buzz….so you would think he would have some recruiting profile or something….nope

247 has 50 kids in Indiana ranked with at least a 2star ranking for the class of 2022…and Rory isn’t one of them…and I just don’t understand how at this point.  I just feel like rivals/247/espn have little to no process on this

and I know there are other kids besides Rory that get left out too, he was just the strongest example, that I know of, to ask this question/get this topic started

it’s all just seems like a crapshoot

I will get to observe for myself this Friday night, but how fast is Rory?  Actual 40 time?  In the objective numbers, where is he at?

    Guess who's back!!!!!!

Man that was a long strange trip!!!! Stink and the crew got caught up in some stuff and the there is no WiFi in the pokey for clowns like us! But STC is back and ready to get back into action!!!!  So many topics this year that the Clown missed, but that is okay! He is ready to spin right into the Championship talk. Always a classic match-up when these two meet!

Do the Brownstown Central fans need directions to the "Pit"??? That is a joke! The IHSAA must really enjoy making sure the Braves travel each year to the Pit. Heck the IHSAA had a chance to end that by putting SpinCity back in 2A, but NOPE, COVID! Anywho, here we go!

Spinny, Spin, Spin 1.2.3 The Braves are 11-0 and rolling!

But take it from STC, there will not be any fire truck riding!

Spin on down to the Pit and you know you're going to get whipped.

One last question before SpinCity tries to keep up with STC

is Coach May's record vs Coach K really 0 and 3???

Going to be a battle we can all agree, just wondering if any SpinCity peeps will stop in and have a Latte or Tiger BL with me?

    Tigers FOREVER - Braves NEVER

He's alive!!!!!  I was afraid that you hadn't recovered from that beat down we gave you in 2019 (had to throw that in there!).

In all seriousness, glad to see you back and that you are ok.

Do school records count when wearing someone else's pants during the accomplishment, or does one have to share the yardage between the two players? 🤔

Bonus inquiry:  How do quarters get factored into pants sharing scenarios?  Do the pants only get two JV quarters the next week, or can they go the full four quarters? I'd think if they were washed you could get the full four, but I couldn't find anything in the rules manual.  I'll hang up and listen for your answer...

Ok, really?  This is all we get?  How about the story?

Heritage Hills has been looking good so far these last few weeks, although the Southridge game was too close to comfort.

Gibson Southern, well, it’s Gibson Southern, don’t know anything about Salem, but GS is too strong and they roll

GS by 28, only because it is sectional, if it wasn't.....GS by a million.

If it weren't for the clock operator (yes the clock should stop on 1st downs) GS 8th grade could crush HH at any other venue!  😉

Mt. Vernon did barely beat Washington as well....but we crushed Mt. Vernon.

The clock was the problem.  If the clock operator would have paid attention to what he was doing, that  GS TD before the half wouldn't have happened.

Us fumbling at the 5 didn't help either.

It's 8th grade football.  Wins and losses don't matter much, but it is fun to win.

Didn’t Memorial play you guys pretty close, but got canceled at half because of some hooligans running loose

That was 7th grade.  I think it was Tell City that cancelled the 7th grade game and they picked you guys up.

Frankly, I would have rather have played Memorial and had a competitive game that beat the snot out of TC, that doesn't really help anybody.

That's what I've heard as well. If our youth numbers stay up and they continue to play together thru Jr. High, we're gonna be much more competitive than this year showed. Coach Morris has told me that his goal is to get enough kids out to have a freshman team at Washington, which is something I'm not sure we've ever had.

Pipeline looks good; just gotta take some lumps now before some good times roll. My hope is the rest of the fan base understands that and continues to support these boys!

8th grade group looked pretty salty for Washington.

Our 8th grade team was only beaten twice--by GS, by a measly score, and we shouldn't have lost that one, that was a bad deal, and then the other loss was to Washington, their 8th grade is good.

I would like to point out that it’s more than just GS.  I think it can be applied to most teams…you just need a QB who can make the throw…it can be 5 yards for all it matters or it could be a 40 yard deep ball…getting the ball to an athlete in space where they have to only beat 1-3 guys is just going to be more efficient.  Like all things though it takes practice and discipline to get good at it

Agreed, the problem is that many schools don't develop a QB, often because they don't know how or it is just to hard.  You don't get a Jay Cutler, Brady Allan, Colson Montgomery (he would have been really good if he stayed in football) but once in a generation.  You have to develop the "normal" kids and many programs just find it too hard--those programs will get left behind.

Before our regular season game against GS, a buddy of mine said "we need to do the best we can to keep the ball out of their (GS) hands".  My reply was that it flat out doesn't matter when they drop 60+ on Southridge in 13 minutes!  LEARN TO DEFEND THE PASS!

No longer will a high school program be successful without throwing the ball well with a developed QB.  4 times a game won't cut it.  You can't simply say, "who is the most athletic senior we have?"  Make him the QB!  Set sail to fail.....

Now with that said, we did it in 2019.  In 15 games, Cole probably didn't throw the ball 25 times, but we had one of the best defenses in the state (points allowed).

Ahh, so the passing cognoscenti have had to use rule changes to make their preferred play style viable.   Must be nice to have the OMG! High School Athletes to run such a system year after year after year.

Control the clock and the number of possessions.  Win the game.

For the current GS team it doesn't matter.  They can and have literally scored 60 points in 13 minutes.

“One” of most heartbreaking nights I’ve watched as a GS fan! I thought what the heck are we doing kicking to Sigler for?? That ball was a magnet to him tho…..kid could flat out move! Exciting game to watch but definitely sucked being on the losing side of it.

indeed, and it could have been one of the most heartbreaking moments for us.  I remember that night like it was yesterday, I turned to my wife (when they set for the FG) and said "is this really how this is going to end"?   That team had been talking about Lucas Oil since they were in the 7th grade.  Two of those boys stood in my kitchen as 13 year olds and said "you will be watching us in Lucas Oil when we are seniors".  I'm glad they were right, it was fun.

Its high school football, absolutely anything can happen.  My anxiety level will be through the roof each and every game from here on out.  But to be fair, see above post re: my feelings toward Venmo... my brain's chemical imbalances probably aren't a good indicator of how GS actually stacks up to any given opponent.

That said, I think GS TCOB Friday and moves on to round 2... and a heightened level of anxiety, roughly exponential in growth to the playoff round in question.

I hear they make great pharmaceuticals for people like me...

You can't let your guard down, even when it will likely be a 40+ point differential.....in 2019 we put a running clock on GS in the regular season and the sectional game was a nail biter to the end.  BTW, I am hoping for some of that in the sectional final this year!

It’s 50% in terms of the number of games, yes.  But that’s really about it.

Since all teams make the sectional field, the load to bear in the early games tends to be pretty light for the good teams (depending, of course, on the draw….since it’s a blind draw).

GS really should have no difficulty winning Sectional 32.  Personally, I think they have a really good shot at going all the way.  And I noticed that JH has them as one of the small handful of teams with a >40% chance to do just that. CG, Cathedral, and Indy Lutheran are the others.

Typically, if you are in sectional 28, winning sectional is more than 50% of the work......With Brebuef and West Lafeyette playing in the first game, that could very well be the state champion.   I am hoping that a team from the south has a very different plan.

Pretty sure the 2019 sectional final was played on a grass field if my memory serves correctly....

My bad, you are correct.  We did have Southridge at home for the final....we had GS in Ft Branch in the semi final.  The rest of them were away.  Regardless, it was a crap ton of miles.

Is it even possible for HH to have a home game sectional final?

looking at the bracket….the only outcome that I can see is that Salem has to beat Southridge then GS/MTV…both of those games on the road

unless I’m mistaken on how it works out, it just seems unlikely based on how home games are determined

By the way, I will add that this gets kinda screwy....in 2019 we had the sectional final, regional and semi state all as away games (LOS basically a home game for Chatard).  That sucked.  I can't remember the miles traveled but it was a bunch.

Careful what you wish for.  Let's just say this team is prepared for inclement weather.  🙂

I am jesting.   I am confident that they are, thus the accompanying video.  With the discipline and mental toughness that GS has right now, I'm pretty sure they would play well in a hurricane.

No, I don't think it is possible.  If it all goes as it appears, HH will be at GS.

Ok, I'll bite.  1v2 is not arguable.

    At best, 1v3.  Arguably... 1v4.

Exactly.  There is a reason this is true, and not because HH is historically a thorn in GS's sectional side.  It's because they are better that MV in 2021.  Week one was a fluke. MV won, not taking that away from them.  But plus five TO margin (memory there, could be different) and you win by one score? C'mon. HH silver plattered that one to MV, and then some.

HH>MV 8 of 10 games.  SR>MV 7 of 10.  Anyone that says sectional 32 championship is being played in the bottom bracket of round one is either misinformed, ignorant of PAC football, or from Posey County.

Actually, I would argue that you are the thorn in the side!  ☺️  We feel really fortunate as we have not got a draw like this in years!  Never happens.  HOWEVER, I will say it again as you have already pointed out--we are the better team over MV.  I wanted them in the 1st round.  5 TOs and they win by 8?  As you said we win this game 8 out of 10 times.

By the way, I want the sectional final in the Jungle, 33 degrees, with a torrential downpour--this is my best case scenario.  So you are saying there is a chance....
