There isn't a win requirement for bowl eligibility this year due to the scheduling unbalance. I imagine you'll see a fair amount of lower tier bowls cancelled this year, especially in states with attendance bans. Depending on the # of bowls that actually take place, I think a 4 win IU team gets in, especially with a win already over Penn State. I see wins against MSU, Rutgers, and Maryland to get to 4 and then Purdue and IU should be a dandy.

Okay but I seriously doubt IU plays a team as good as Penn State in any bowl game they might play in,.  The number of bowls will depend on who they line up for sponsors this year and how many are still in business.  At least I would guess.

  2. Should be a couple of good games this week.   Does anyone know if the Mater Dei game is live streamed or will it be on the radio?  I know the Linton game is on WQTY (93.3)  Miner Pride always does a great job with the broadast along with Darren Clayton.  Great team in the booth for every Miner game.  Looking forward to the second round of this tournament.

Absolutely no question that competition level favors Mater Dei... really against any 2A school in the southern part of Indiana.  We (all the other small 2A's) try and get some games on our schedule to try and be better challenged... but even so... it will never match MD facing who they face.  Heck Whiting and Indian Creek are no slouches... but yeah Jasper is the real deal.. and Lincoln is a good team too... just facing a whole lot more talent in the SIAC than the BIG 8 on a week to week basis.

I've said this year and for the past several years that MD plays one of the tougher schedules in all of 2A.   It is mostly against 3, 4, and 5A schools   No matter what their record is, they are ALWAYS tournament ready.  You can't teach competition.

The difference I see from the Southridge game to the Linton game is that on offense Tell City had 4 guys that did not play vs. Linton. On defense I see 5 guys that did not play vs. Linton. When we read in the Evansville Courier "Tell City dressed only 22 players for the sectional opener after practicing with just 16 the past two days. Several were asked to play out of position, particularly on defense." And "The other body blow came on Wednesday when nearly 20 players were placed under quarantine due to another positive case." I don't think anyone is saying that Linton is not a good team or that they are not playing well right now. I think we just don't think a win over Tell City under those conditions is something that anyone should be getting to excited about.

"We"???  So now you are speaking for everyone else?  I find it strange how some people never demanded that South Spencer (what?) apologize for beating Tell City last week?  Some people want to make it sound like Linton should apologize for winning.  It isn't Linton's fault that Tell City was short handed.   What was Linton supposed to do, sit out all of their starters to make things more equal?   That isn't how things work.  What would have been better:  Tell City just forfeit?  At least the ones who showed up still played.  If things had been reversed, NO ONE would have cried for Linton losing and no one would have demanded that everyone feel sorry for Linton.   Everyone knew with this virus that this was a possibility of losing players (and games).  And YES, it STINKS!!!   Everyone talks about it, but unless it happens to their team, it's mostly just talk.  I mentioned covid being the dark horse in the tournament and got made fun of for saying it.  It IS the reality of life.   And now it's happened.  And as I said, "at least it wasn't a forfeit".  It could have been.  Linton won, the tournament continues and maybe down the road it happens to Linton or to YOUR team.   It's the way life works out sometimes.  IT IS WHAT IT IS!

  6. It isn't so much about Rivers and him playing bad . It's mostly about Reich and his vanilla play calling.  Rivers gets put in some bad situations by his coach.  This past week Reich was forced to play hurry up when the Colts fell behind 21 - 0.   Part of that was on Eberflus and how he NEVER has this defense ready to start a game.   Unless you weren't paying attention, the hurry up is how Rivers plays at his best.   If fans want to see more 300+ yard passing games and 3 TD passes per game from Rivers, and 30+ points from this offense, Reich needs to run the hurry up.  Not to mention he mixed in some intermediate to deep throws as well.  All this dinking and dunking and "run the damn ball" is NOT who this offense is.  Everyone wants to point to a loss of weapons as to part of Rivers problems.  Hardly.   He has Johnson, Pascal, Burton, Hines, Cox, Doyle, Taylor, and now after the Bengals game he has a nice surprise in Harris (3 catches for 29 yards).  Rivers has the weapons.  Rivers can still chuck it.  Reich says he knows him so well?  Then why has he been calling most game plans like some old grandma?  Give your boy a chance every week!  They need to start every game and pretend like they are down 21 - 0.  Until Reich stops with the vanilla BS, and gets on the hurry up page, this team will be up and down and everyone will blame Rivers and his "bad play".

  7. Round 2 is coming up

     North Knox

    Mater Dei

Will North Knox be able to score enough points against Mater Dei to make a game of it?  This one could be a lot closer than most people might think.

    North Posey

    Linton

Will Linton's defense continue to dominate another opponent?  North Posey just put up a big score in round one.   However Crawford County isn't on the same level as Linton.  I see the Miners winning this one and moving to the title game.

Wasn’t Tell City missing over 20 players?

So what do you want , the Miners to apologize for winning?  No one cries for Linton when they have a bunch of missing players due to injuries during the season.  They always play with who they have.   It's called "Next man up".  I could care less if TC was down to the head coach.  Bottom line, Linton won.  If TC can't stay healthy, that isn't the Miners fault.

Luers wasn' t 23rd last week,  they were 23rd the 19th of September. I have no clue why they dropped so much. The majority of the top teams in 2A all reside in the ICC. Must be a pretty good conference.

I've written about the ICC several times on here.  They are an excellent small school conference with 4A Beech Grove and 1A Lutheran in the  mix.   I believe Lutheran won the conference this year.  There have been a few state champions from this conference in recent years.  Very competitive and very balanced.  Scecina hasn't won a title, but had back to back appearances in the 1A championship game.  And to my knowledge, they have stayed in 2A ever since.

  10. Life is all about making choices.   We make bad ones, we make good ones, we make questionable ones throughout out lifetimes.   The thing is, can YOU live with the choices you make?  It seems to me that people who have regrets are the ones that usually follow a bad or questionable choice.  We aren't perfect beings.  We won't make the right choice every time.   But how much research, how much education have you given yourself concerning the matter?  Are you just basing the decision on "just because"?   Or are you just going with the masses?  Education.  It goes a long way.  It never stops even after graduation.

ALL RECORDS USED IN THIS THREAD ARE THROUGH WEEK 8

    (4 - 2) North Knox @

    (6 - 2) Forrest Park

    (1 - 7) South Spencer @

    (4 - 4) Mater Dei

    (4 - 3) North Posey @

    (0 - 4) Crawford County

    (5 - 3) Linton @

    (6 - 1) Tell City

There are a couple of good matchups in this first round,.  I like the North Knox @ Forrest Park game.   I expect it will be a dandy.   North Knox has a strong running attack.   Don't know much about Forrest Park other than their 2 losses are to 2A Tell City and 3A (4 - 2) Mount Vernon.  I also like the Linton @ Tell City game.   Along with Mater Dei, Tell City has to be a favorite.   Even though they came up a couple of points short, they gave 3A Southridge all they wanted.  Linton has had an up and down season, but regardless, they usually get people's attention.   They haven't made a lot of noise in 2A just yet, but knocking off a favorite like Tell City would be a good start.  North Posey has played 3A Southridge, 3A Heritage Hills (Double over time loss by one point), and 2A Tell City.  They are no stranger to good competition, and I believe they will be too much for Crawford County.  The Wolfpack has had it rough for several years now and this year doesn't look to be any different.   They only got to play 4 games on their schedule in this crazy year.  But in those four games, they have been outscored by an average of 56 - 6.  A better match up would have been with South Spencer, but that is the luck of the ping pong balls.  Speaking of South Spencer, they get to travel to Evansville to take on Mater Dei.   Not much can be said about this game.   South Spencer seems to be on the opposite end of the scale from Mater Dei.  Besides, Mater Dei plays one of the tougher schedules in all of 2A so even though South Spencer plays their best game of the year, I believe Mater Dei will have no problem moving into round 2.   Best of Luck and Good Health to all teams.

Just thought I list the tune up games everyone had before the tournament starts:

    North Knox = 42 - 0 winner over Indianapolis Attucks .

Forest Park = 38 - 0 loss to Southridge.  Southridge has beaten a few teams in sectional 40 this year.

South Spencer = 35 - 26 winner over Tell City.   I wonder what happened in this one???  No offense to South Spencer but I looked at the score in disbelief.

Mater Dei = 40 - 20 winner over Evansville Reitz.   Mater Dei just keeps flexing it's  muscles.

North Posey = 58 - 15 winner over Pike Central.

    Crawford County = 51 - 14 loss to Tecumseh,

    Linton = 27 - 7 winner over Providence.

Now that tournament week has begun, let the chatter commence.

    Linton 27, Providence 7 - Final

Miners were dominant on both sides of the ball tonight.   Probably their best overall game of the year.  They didn't give up a first down until there was about 3 minutes left in the third quarter.  I thought Providence was a little tougher.   The Miners did leave a couple of scores on the field.  They drove 95 yards to the one yard line and couldn't punch it in.  At that time the score was 0 - 0.  The Miners had over 400 yards total offense for the game.
