    I'm still alive and well.  Actually not so well after my night at Williams field last evening.  It was painful to watch the Miners take a complete beat-down like they got from the Warriors.  The Linton line was completely dominated on both sides of the ball.  I think the outstanding NK back #12 had over 250 yards.  Very un-Linton-like defense.  Congratulations to North Knox.  They came to play and took care of business.  I'll have to do some checking but I know it's been a long time since Linton lost a homecoming football game.

    Glad to see  you on here and know you are alive and well, my friend.  Yeah I have NO IDEA what that was last night.  I've only followed the Miners for 25 years but I can't recall the last time they played that poorly.   It was as though they weren't interested in playing the game.  Offense, defense, either one was just awful.  I give props to North Knox for the game plan and their line play.   I know their line didn't play that well against the Bombers last weekend.  I guess the coaches got them fired up for the Linton game.   Not taking anything away from the Warriors (they played a superb game) but the performance by the Miners was an embarrassment.  I hope they get whatever's wrong, fixed in the next 2 weeks.

  2. Warriors score with 5:26 left in the game on a 2 yard run.  PAT is good.

    North Knox 27

    Linton 6

    I will give the Warriors my congrats now.  What a game plan and what a beat down.  The line was superb tonight for the Warriors on BOTH sides of the ball.  At least you came to play and the Miners apparently wanted no part of what you guys brought.

  3. Halftime

    North Knox 14

    Linton   6

    North Knox missed a 35 yard field goal with 9 seconds left in the half.  North Knox gets the second half kickoff.   North Knox has out rushed Linton 224 yards to 126 yards.   Even Southridge didn't do that well against the Miner defense.  Can't remember the last time Linton has been this dominated.   It's like the Warriors have 15 men on the field at times for blocking.  Wow.

    Is it right that a school is allowed to accumulate talent to a level where it so completely dominates its competition that the games are rendered useless and unwatchable?

    The IHSAA has responsibility to works towards the maintainence of competitive balance.  These issues happen in basketball all the time.  This is really the first time where a single student athlete had such a huge impact within the conference that it destabilized the entire league for two years.  yes, you can make the argument that it forced other schools to go out and get better, but many are still struggling.

    All the way back to the spring of 2004 when I joined this site, my primary focus has been the maintenance of compoetitive balance.  That can be achieved thru the use of many tools and mechanisms :

    * Class structure

    * Conference alignment

    * OOC scheduling strategies

    * Multipliers

    * Success Factors

    * Failure Factors

    * Contraction

    * Minimum roster requirements

    * Transfer management

    And of course you have definitive proof of what you accuse them of.  What, cheating???  That is about the dumbest comment I have EVER read on this forum in my many years of being a member.  And in the day of open enrollment, it makes it ever dumber!  Who says the games were unwatchable?  You say it to fit some DT  agenda and for NO other reason.  I watched another program beat up on teams for years.  You KNEW every year it was going to be a blowout with most teams on their schedule.  However, NO ONE accused them of accumulating talent so they could beat up the other teams.   It was just the case of one program being that much better than the others in a particular area.   It's called having a program.  Something it appears you are not familiar with.  Oh yeah, you support that powerhouse, Highland.  No wonder.  You should be trying to "fix" your own program instead of throwing rocks at others, especially ones that are successful.  They are successful so they MUST be cheating is your way of explaining it.  I guess you are one of those people in society that wants every kid to get a trophy even if they don't do anything.  You want everything "equal".  Life doesn't work that way and especially in sports and competition.  You are going to find someone who is always bigger, always faster, always stronger, and more talented.  Hey, maybe we should limit football players to no one over 200 pounds.  Maybe that would help you in your "quest" to get everything equal.  Good luck with that.

    Been saying for years I don't mind the ping pong balls. I just don't get the big deal with the seeding of the team's. So what if the top two teams have to play week one opposed to week three. Plus there is no guarantee that this 1 vs 2 matchup will automatically happen anyway.

    Because in general, most fans would prefer to see the top 2 teams in the title game.  It's the #1 versus #2 thing.  When the 2 best teams play each other in the first round, it seems a lot of people lose interest after that game.  I don't see a problem with the seeding.  I think it would hold more fans interest (in a normal year and NOT this year).   However, I'd like to see them come up with a different way to rank teams in classes instead of using enrollment.  I believe it would even out the playing fields a bit more and more than likely cut down on some of the early round blowouts that we are accustomed to seeing.

  6. Yes, let's demand that Anderson drop it's football team.  That's a bit hypocritical coming from a fan of a school who's had only one winning season in the last 10 years.  And the 2 years before that they went 1 and 20.  So tell me, WHO are you to judge other programs when your own isn't very good?  It's past time for someone to rein in their holier than thou attitude towards others and take a long look in the mirror.

    Sounds like your line last year was simiular to ours last year too.   Here is me holding up the mirror and looking at each other :classic_laugh:

    Our left TE was a JV center last year, LT is returning player, LG, was JV player last year, Center returns, our RG is Soph, JV last year, our RT played some as a Soph, sat out all last year and now back this year as a SR, our right TE is 6'5, 340 pound size 17.5 shoe 15 year old along with the other guy rotating in, in his 1st year playing varsity TE.   That group, 6 games in is starting to get that synergy we talk about in running this style offense.   Timing is everything as you know with this offense.

    Good grief!  No offense, but are you sure they are human?  Sounds more like a sasquatch.  He sounds like the 2 Piper brothers they had at Perry Central some years back.  Both of them around 6' 4" or 6'5" and 300+ pounds.  I believe they were a year apart.  They were a LOAD!

    I don’t think the answer is contraction I think the answer is the opposite of success factor the unsuccessful factor. Struggling programs like this get knocked down a class till they can compete

    I've always liked the suggestion of putting teams in classes using the Sagarin ratings or something similar instead of enrollment.  Seems to me it would be beneficial for everyone.  The stellar smaller school programs (the current ones) would play against better competition in the tournament and not dominate and the bigger struggling schools would play lower level teams and be more competitive.  It will never happen because it makes too much sense, but I'd like the IHSAA at least try it.  The success factor would be automatic.  You get ranked higher, then you move up.

    I would love to add the Miners to our non conference slate, just do not see any room

    Hoosier Conference agreed years ago to help each other out with fililng schedules for the each side of the hoosier:  So that is why we have Western and Northwestern on there:  that just leaves 2 other weeks:   KV week is not going anywhere, county rival and play for cracker barrell each year.   That leaves North Newton, who myself and many locals as well, do not want to see that gone, 20 min trip for each school, have playing each other since Morrooco High days, now North Newton after consolidation.

    So in typical year there is just no room

    Kinda figured it would have to do with the Hoosier and your schedule.  I think it would make for an epic series between the Bombers and the Miners.   Even if they did it for only 2 or 4 years, it would be some great games.  It's just my opinion, but I think both prgrams are similar.  Oh well.

  10. People who know me know that I have posted in the past:   HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, THE GREATEST GAME ON THE PLANET!!!  This story is just one more reason that I have made that statement.  For something like this to occur (and especially at the last minute) warms my old heart.  To see not two, but three schools come together and allow these student athletes to play the game they love is well, just heart warming.  Considering how many teams have not gotten to play this year, I'm genuinely happy for those who can.  It goes beyond "kudos" for making something like this happen.  As a fan, I give my humble thanks to the 3 programs that provided this opportunity for these young athletes and their fans.  And as a fan of football, I now have 2 more teams to follow (I already followed North Knox since they are on Linton's schedule).  No comment about a Linton/Rensy Central series?

    I hope you're right and MD does win the sectional.  Do I think MD has played a tougher schedule? Yes. I'm not fooled by their record. A couple of plays here and there against Castle and Memorial, and they could easily be 4-2. They will likely finish up 5-4 barring any craziness. The rivalry game with Reitz game at the end of the year will not be a given. The MD defense is stout. The offense is still finding its way. North is good team, but 5A top 5 is a bit of a stretch. They may be 5A top 10 when they're at full strength. They squeaked by Castle first game of the year, but have yet to play Jasper and Central. Hopefully they get back to full strength soon. I still wouldn't be surprised to see them not make it out of sectionals. While Tell City doesn't have the strength of schedule, a 14-12 loss to Southridge showed they're for real. Tell City D has pitched 4 shutouts this year and held a Southridge team that was averaging 40+ before that game to 14.  Assuming you've seen Southridge, maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but I tend to think not. Maybe they played down in the TC game. I know several of the TC kids and their 2021 class is a tough, athletic bunch. I understand what you're saying about MD, the history, being battle tested coming out of the SIAC, and so on. I just don't think there's a clear separation between MD, L-S and TC, and whoever shows up ready to play and executes each Friday will take the sectional. Whoever survives the sectional could play a couple more weeks.

    No, I hope I'm wrong and Linton wins sectional 40.  LOL  But that would be a homer calling it and I won't do that.  Linton is a very young team this year.  They still sometimes play with the tendencies of youth.  They are still a good team but not good enough that I would say they could beat all of the other teams in 40.  Mater Dei doesn't play ANY 1A or 2A teams on their schedule.  Playing in the SIAC they are the smallest team in that conference.  They play two 5A, two 3A and five 4A teams.  And keep in mind some of those teams are usually ranked in their classes every year.  This year they have lost 6 - 3 to 5A Castle but just beat 5A North by two scores.  And it was AT North.  Tell City has played two 3A schools and beat Heritage Hills 32 - 0 but this is probably the worst team that HH has had since 2013.  I believe they lost a lot to graduation since they were 14 - 1 last year and played at state.  Tell City just lost to Southridge 14 - 12.  So I based picking Mater Dei over Tell City on those facts and not what MD has done historically.   Had Tell City won against Southridge, I might call it a bit different.  At any rate, I'm hoping for a few good draws in the sectional so we get some good games.   After reading this, you'd think I was a Mater Dei fan.  Trust me, I'm far from it.  Just giving props to those with good teams and good programs.  I get that a team can have a good game on any given night, but so far on current resumes, I'd have to say Mater Dei is still top dog in 40.  And don't forget, this isn't Coach Goebel's first rodeo either.   Best of luck and good health to all teams in sectional 40!

    I would still take MD over TC, but don't oversell their win against North.  The only SIAC team that could withstand the loss of their starting QB at the last minute might be Central, and that's only because they really don't ask their QB to do much besides hand the ball to a RB.  North might be okay this week without the QB, but they will struggle in the last two games if the QB is not able to return.

    I get that North was without their QB but North was supposed to also have a really good defense.  Word was that Mater Dei ran all over them.

    I never talked about the grid...but, i did talk to a bunch of their coaches and fans(So, I may have)..really great people.  They are a fun hard nosed team to play against...it definitely benefitted us to play them.

    Okay.  Just wondered.  I met Coach Nowlin at the Linton/LCC state title game in 2015.  We sat together at the game.  He's such a great individual.  We talked about football (of course) and many other things.  He had no dog in the fight but still drove down to Lucas Oil to meet up and get acquainted.  I had just finished a TON of chemo a few weeks before the state title game.  Even though Linton lost the game it was still great meeting and talking with Coach.

    MD offense seems to be improving a little each week. They'll have the next 2 weeks to get some kinks lined out, but I think Tell City looks like the team to beat with L-S and MD in tow. Forest Park is having a good season also. North Posey could play a spoiler if someone doesn't respect them. Sectional pairings will be interesting.

    Have to disagree.  Mater Dei has played a much tougher schedule than Tell City.  Don't be fooled by Mater Dei's record.  They just beat the undefeated and top 5 ranked 5A Evansville North  team while Tell City lost to the 3rd ranked 3A team.  Most of Mater Dei's losses have been close and to much bigger schools (and some ranked).  Regardless of what some people may think, Mater Dei is still the team to beat in sectional 40 with all of the other teams looking up (including Tell City).  I will say, IF a team beats Mater Dei, then they should win the sectional whoever that would be.  But I don't see Mater Dei losing in the sectional this year.

    As I said, I thought Hammelman played a decent game against the Bombers.  He had some nice passes but I was more impressed with some of the runs he made picking up first downs and extending drives for the Warriors.  The Miner defense is going to have to stay sharp and watch for that and stay focused.  I'm sure the Warriors will show up full of confidence after their game with the Bombers.   Off the subject here.   I'd like to see the Bombers and the Miners start a series with each other.  I think it would be epic.  Both of them are quality 2A programs.  The Miners still have a couple of 1A teams on their schedule they should drop.   The Bombers could drop 5A Munster since they aren't a very good program.  In fact Munster is last in 5A this year and have been close to that for several years.  While it may not look great to drop a 5A school and pick up a 2A, the level of competition would be much better.

    I have found out that Munster is just a make up game this year.  So forget my suggestion of dropping them by the Bombers.  I't still like to see a series between the Bombers and the Miners.
