How many Goldsberry's are there in Lincoln City seems like the last name Goldsberry has been around awhile (of course it could be my old mind playing tricks on me too).
BC looked real good just before halftime after @Lysander stuck his tongue to the fuse box to the lights at Arlington. Then looked even better the next morning at Chatard (the Palace not Broad Ripple's Field of Champions). He had to go and spoil all the fun of having more home games at Arlington.
Jett ('26) is the son of Jon Goldsberry ('00) who wrestled, played at Purdue as a FB/LB/ST. He then played for the Bills (and Bucs I think) in the NFL.
Jon's brother's name is Zach ('02). Was a starting E/CB on the 2000 team. He wrestled at UIndy.
Their father Tom was an amazing football player and track athlete at South Spencer in the late 70s/80s. He played in college too, but forgive me for not knowing the full bio.
Tom coached interior DL until Zach's senior year. He was a big teddy bear and one of "the favorite" personas and coaches during the Bob Clayton era. He sadly passed away about a decade ago, way too young, but with a lasting legacy.

Faces and playmakers for Chatard?
I'm trying to think how many HH athletes have multiple state finals appearance... Goldsberry already with wrestling and football (assuming he plays...) Not sure if his uncle made state in wrestling.

Where did Memorial say this? I tread lightly because I don't want Dumfries to get all up in my business, but generalities are misleading. I personally feel of the 3 state titles games we played in from 2017-2019, the 2019 (4A) game was the least competitive. EC is like nobody we ever saw in 3A. I think there are years where the 3A champ might be better than the 4A champ.
I'll try to find it...
I think I like the idea of having a Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, East Central and Columbus East home and away series...
So much success and history with those four teams in Southern Indiana ... great opening weekend!
Anyway, I've said too much. No one wants anything to do with East Central this year. Respect!

That would require folks actually paying attention.
Apologies for really getting away from the subject....but since we have a whole week, I'm curious, just what years do you contend the top of 3A was better than 4A? I have my own opinions.
I'll try to gather some figures this evening. I can start with 2001, when 4A state champion Jasper's only loss was to Heritage Hills.
Chatard beat Roncalli or Cathedral how many times it also won 3A?
There were some 3A Memorial teams which I believe also bested Reitz in the same years.
I swear it's true. 👍

Um. No.
I am the official Memorial spokesman. So, yes.
Anyway, I recall Coach Hurley saying something to this effect around 2017.

Fact check yourself dude. Snider is relevant almost every year, regardless of what class they are in. Certainly one of the most consistent teams in the entire state. As BTF pointed out to you, Snider has been in 6A recently and if they win Friday night, will be again. Quit picking Snider , we certainly don’t care, and hang your hat on Chatard and the creampuff 3A class
Creampuffs? Many years the 3A state champion has beaten the 4A state champion. Memorial is on record as saying 3A has been harder than 4A.

Now, I can clarify that I didn't use the homefield advantage for these games.

I appreciate the words. Everyone on this end understands the buzzsaw we are running into.....the speech has already been given to shut out all the media and frankly those in the community that see it as an impossible feat. In 2019 the boys were being congratulated on a great season before the game in Indy was even played. They were defeated mentally before they got there. I'll steal one from the Gibson Southern playbook here...."IB".
The biggest thing that has separatedv the success of recent HH teams and those of the past is perfection. I was a bit worried that we had lost the recipe for success. We were winning but not dominating. I really like looking at the sidelines now and it is full of former coaches, teammates, and fellow alum. People like Coach Winchell coming back is the excellence needed and expected. (Yes watch out... HH will have a Goldsberry and Winchell on the same field for three years after this.)
There's no team I'd rather have to match up with in the state championship than Bishop Chatard.

Is that the sound of you co-signing student loans for med school?
Gotta see what wife No. 1 says. We are currently paying Harvard Kennedy a sizeable monthly payment for grad school, so what's another grad degree and some others in 18 years?

Look…my wife already has a degree in English and is working on a masters in Speech Language Pathology with the aspirations of becoming a doctor in the field one day.
I wasn’t aware that she also knew of this forum and was so knowledgeable in Indiana HS football also. Lol
(From her:) I am reading it with my friend from Santa Claus, hunny. We have a lot to talk about tonight.
Soon to be Ms Dumfries

Whomever has the ball last.....
Whichever... teams are not people. Even if you were to use who/whom, it should be whoever ... it is replacing the subject.
Also "lastly" because it is an adverb. Last is an adjective, so...
"Whichever has the last ball (will win)"

Add in Vince Lorenzano too, terrific record at Chatard took Ritter to the STate Championship too and also coached at Mississinewa.
Could Coach L have won in Class 5A then or Class 6A now?

Nice. Are you holding out for a 5-4 game?

4-3 was a game where Center Grove scored all the points.
A field goal, a safety for holding in the end zone, and a safety for the punter stepping out of bounds. Here's the broadcast on WBDG.

Was this the year we had rain leading up to Friday then rain on Friday and Saturday so several games had to be made up on Monday? I seem to be associating a 4-3 game with that season.
ETA: How was the game archived? Cassette? When did you switch over to a digital recorder?

There are no mountains in Indiana unless you count Paoli Peaks of course.
Surely someone from Chatard?

Interesting facts
Center Grove has won the last 8 meetings between Center Grove and Ben Davis and 11 of the last 13 meetings. At one time the Giants held a 10-2 advantage over the Trojans (in 2006). The Trojans now lead the series 19-15 over the Giants. In 2006 Ben Davis beat Center Grove 4-3, that is a odd Final Score of a game you don't see too often!
I think 4-2 and 5-4 would be the only more rare scores statistically... 2-0, then anytime a team scores 29

Let's discuss the first game today. If they didn't rematch, Gibson probably just watches the first half and teaches what happens when you let off the gas. I think Heritage Hills reliedon the big play too much but that has kind of been their modus operandi.
-
Bordering schools meet in state every year almost.
HH has played and won enough games in southeastern Indiana to be considered "Eastern."
I believe we got the two best teams in 3A playing against each other. Seems like a pretty good system.
