@Donnie Baker should’ve spent that money more wisely. I heard from his neighbor to the north, Mitchell, that Donnie has racked up quite the amount in fines by the Homeowners Association because he refuses to move his dilapidated, eyesore of a boat from his property.

Forgive my stupidity but didn’t the whole state used to have access to channel 4 to watch Cowboy Bob, Janie, Sammy Terry, IU/Purdue basketball games, IHSAA football and basketball state championships, etc.? I’ve heard folks talk about channel 4 and its programming with fond memories despite being from outside the Indy tv market. I was applying that same concept for my idea.

Let me just preface this by saying this is meant to be a fun, imaginative idea. Before anyone spouts off about how the money could be better spent on real world things, get it in your heads that not everything has to be so serious. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming… If I had Elon Musk’s money, I think it would be cool to have a TRUE Indiana high school sports network. I’d split the state up into nine regions (see pic below of a rough idea on what that could look like). I’d get a digital tv channel and have sub-channels to go along with it. Those of you with antennas know what I’m talking about. For example, 50.1 would be for northwest Indiana. 50.2 would be for north-central Indiana. 50.3 would be for northeast Indiana. And so on. Each region would have their own broadcast teams and would air a game of the week each Friday night during the football season. If two teams from different regions played each other then the regional channel of the home team would broadcast it. Other weeknights or Saturday mornings/afternoons/nights during the fall would broadcast boys/girls soccer or girls volleyball. In the winter, six days worth of boys/girls basketball would be broadcast. In the spring, six days of baseball, softball, or boys volleyball would be broadcast. On Sundays, each region’s channel would have a studio show with a panel containing a host and analysts (media member from the region and a former player and/or coach) discussing their sport of expertise. For example, in the fall you’d have an hour-long block of football, an hour-long block of girls volleyball, an hour-long block of boys soccer, and an hour long block of girls soccer. To fill the rest of the time throughout the week, I’d air the following: 1. Pre-taped interviews with coaches and players. 2. If enough independent footage existed, highlights of games from the day or from the previous night. 3. A ticker showing all scores from the day or the previous night. Upcoming games for the night or the next day would also be shown. And to top it all off, each region would have their own website dedicated to high school sports coverage of their whole region. This would also include the other IHSAA sports like tennis, golf, cross country, track & field, wrestling, gymnastics, and swimming. If you’re still reading at this point, what other ideas would you have to expand upon this? Or if you had Elon’s money, would you spend it a completely different way to promote/support Indiana high school sports?

If Bloomington South and Terre Haute South isn’t the closest game of the four then I’ll be shocked. I don’t think Columbus North stands a chance of keeping it within 28.

Again, I’m aware of what Eric Moore has done in Florida and Indiana. If there’s anything I may have mistaken it’s the community of which Center Grove belongs to. Have there really always been money and resources there? The impression I got is that it only developed over the last 20-25 years there. I was a kid in the 90s and a teen through most of the 2000s. I had always heard about Carmel back then but Center Grove, and the area as a whole, was never mentioned.

Completely agree with that. However, he can almost rest on his laurels at this point because of the money and resources that school now enjoys. I put him in the top 10 but it’s hard for me to say top 3.

I would need sold on that. That’s a community with money. I feel like they have a built in advantage.

I’m curious to know who your top 3 would be. Kyle Ralph would top my list. Michael Mosser would be #2. Not sure about #3.

Week 5 Picks BNL (3-1, 2-0 HHC) at Seymour (0-4, 0-3 HHC): This looks to be a bad matchup for the Owls. The Stars have a stellar offense (34.8 PPG) while Seymour’s defense leaves much to be desired (37.3 PPG). The purple and black have won three of the last four but BNL takes this one easily. Seymour leads the all-time series 26-24. Floyd Central (3-1, 1-0 HHC) at Jeffersonville (2-2, 1-1 HHC): Speaking of powerful offenses, the Highlanders come into this game averaging 43.8 PPG. If their one common game with Seymour is any indication, this spells trouble for the Red Devils. Floyd Central has won five in a row in this series and 13 of the last 14. Jeff’s last regular season win against the Highlanders was in 2014. I don’t anticipate that changing. Floyd Central rolls to a win. The all-time series is tied 27-27. New Albany (0-4, 0-1 HHC) at Columbus East (2-2, 2-0 HHC): I’m not sure what’s going on with New Albany but this team might be the worst they’ve ever had. The Olympians may not be great but I imagine we’ll see a running clock in this one. East has won three in a row in the series and 22 of the last 23. Those streaks will continue. The Olympians lead the all-time series 28-6. Madison (0-4) at Jennings County (1-3): For the second week in a row, the lone non-conference game is the best game of the week. The Battle of the Railroad has been an interesting one over the last 12 years. Here are some crazy trends. No team has won two in a row in the series since Jennings County defeated the Cubs in the 2016 sectionals and the 2017 regular season. No team has won two in a row in the regular season in the series since Jennings County did so in 2012 and 2013. No team has won a road game in the series since Jennings County did so in 2012 (and it took them overtime to do it). The Cubs have a chance to break all of those Friday by scoring a road win (for the first time since 2009) and consecutive wins (for the first time since 2008 and 2009). The Panthers have been dealing with injuries and dwindling numbers in the past week or two so now would be the perfect opportunity for the Cubs to take advantage. The problem is, they’re not good either. I’ll take the Panthers in a close one. JC leads the all-time series 32-29.

Yeah but a +20 to +30 minute average adds up when factoring in all sports. Would the PAC not bring them in?

Sheesh. Those will be some long drives to WIC schools. They’re pretty much increasing their average drive time 20-30 minutes.

Snider stayed in 6A because they had only completed one year in 6A. When you bump up, you have a two year window to accumulate the points necessary to remain in that classification (or bump up another classification if you’re not already in 6A).

As @Footballking16 stated, there are several factors. However, in my opinion, the biggest factor is Kyle Ralph. There was always potential at New Pal but he came in and elevated them to the next level immediately. If you look at what they’ve done since he took over in 2013 it’s really hard not to be blown away. I got to see them in person four straight years (2013-2016) when Columbus East met them in the postseason and I gained a ton of respect for him and his team.

No this is only their first year in 5A. Therefore, this year and next year will determine if they bump up to 6A, remain in 5A, or fall back to 4A for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

Where are these kids going? Are there one or two schools benefiting from this or is it pretty spread out?

They’re 5A due to success factor. If you threw them back in 4A they’d be the 20th largest school. East Central is also playing up in 5A due to success factor and they’re also bigger than New Palestine. Overall, East Central is the 80th largest school in the state and New Palestine is 83rd based on the enrollment numbers the IHSAA released prior to last season.
