Winamac 24 WC 16.

Saw some good things and saw somethings got to improve on. Pretty impressed with Xavier Adriano tonight. He's gonna be very good in time.

Nothing like a playoff game week 1…

Judson beat Knox 42-21.

These are 2 very good physical teams. Even with a 3 TD loss, Knox is a much better team than I expected them to be.

A day in the life of Spanky Harper pt 1.

Written, edited, and dictated by Spanky Harper

330- woke up to drain muh satchel.  Over active bladder or prostrate cancer.  Not sure yet.  Maybe it was the half rack of busch.  Returned to bed.

514am- a she-beast named Beverly wakes me to tell me I have to leave before her kids get up for school.  Shes a good woman.  We closed down O’s tap last night. Bout had to whip mr gustaffson for spiling his wine cooler on me.  She made me hot dogs and mac n cheese before showing be the master suite of her trailer in bournes.  It aint love but she makes me forget about muh previous ex-wives.

534am- stopped at the pig pantry for a monster, some skoal, and a penicillin shot

6am-  drove to fingerhuts to see if coach orkis was in attendance.  Stopped in to tell him the jays need to run that double beagle defense.

713am-  stopped by quills for a copy a newshawk

9am-  went to baileys to find a deal.  Fishing poles for $20.

1047am went fishing in the bogus ditch.

1129- caught a fish.  Fell in a gopher hole.  Sprained my ankle when i saw a copper head under the bridge.  Broke my flip flop.  Heading back to town for a sixer of some hams classic.

144pm.  Went to the oasis got lost in a solar panel field.  Some worker directed me back towards the highway.  Got a flat tire in the fiero.

245p swung by russ’s tires for a plug.  I helped take the tire off.  Put the plug in for him.  Balanced the tire.  He sat in a chair.  Charged me $40 and never said thanks.  Hes a good man.

4pm  Pregame at the irish bar.  Hank and Alex got into a heated debate with irish mike.  I called irish mike yella for being a knox fan.  Stinky Will hit me with a pool cue across the back.  Ive been banned for life, again.  I walked out on my tab.  6 busch lights.  4 shots of wyld turkey.  They wont ever see that $13 from me.  No sir.

606 pm- Ripped gravel and asphalt all the way to the high school for whisky thomas performance.

629pm met david haugh.  Bought a spud from scutch.  Made eye contact with muh ex wife.  She didnt look bad.  She’ll prolly want me to come over but beverly just got tickets us tickets to monster jam so i gotta be good.

7pm- Game time.  You forget how far these jays have come over the last 6 years?  You forget where the program was at before coach Lambert took over the program in 2019.  The jays had not won a sectional title in 15 years.  A drought.  They had come close.  They were close in 2018.  In fact they shoulda won.  But they didnt.  Here we are now.  The start of year 6.  Expectations as high as I am.  And even with those expectations of going to state.  Winning the north.  Representing your community.  There just wasnt any way where those boys from judson could beat knox….  It just couldnt happen?   The old heads asked me, “Can your jays keep the score close Spanky?”

It’s a knox v judson game.  They always start close.  They dont always end close.  Tonight was one of those games.  I try to tell people about this group of jays.  I try to let them know that these kids from judson are different.  That this group in particular has been a big part of three runs at a semi state championship.  That leads to a lot of practices.  A lot of practices in preparation for trophies.  Sometimes they just dont know any better.  They practice hard.  They lift hard.  They stay hard.

To me the game was over a lot earlier than what others thought.  As soon as I saw that we could bottle knox up on defense I knew it was over.  I knew they couldnt keep the bluejauys off the board.  Defense is not their prowess.  Ross wants to outscore you.  Those rattkeys think they just have the superior scheme.  In a lot of games the scheme will be superior for the knox team this year.  But not tonite.  Coach lambert had his boys locked in.  Ready for a scrap in starke

Knox has to get a passing game. It'll be interesting to see how they do vs Tippecanoe Valley in a couple weeks.

Overall a nice night for the HNAC!  Some scores that were a little surprising.  Judson looks like they're already in playoff form.  How are they going to handle cruising through the regular season and early playoffs before getting challenged?

Triton looked pretty good.  LaVille has some work to do.  Too many mistakes that are not like a normal Lancer team.

Pioneer, Culver, South Central and North Miami all with lopsided wins.  And Winamac gets a much needed W.

On to week 2.  Pioneer at Knox and Triton at Bremen are the intriguing games on the schedule for next week.  Judson won't have any trouble with LaVille.

I get it, Winamac is awful young but some of these posts are really doing a disservice to some of the kids.

Tearson Wolford, Addison Allen, Talen Garner and Xavier Adriano can play.

It wouldn't shock me to see them win 3 games in conference. Kids will have time to grow each week and build confidence.

They started 5 Sophomores, 3 freshman and 2 more freshman got playing time, those freshman have a lot of potential, just need to grow, get your licks in now because in 2026 and 2027, you won't.

Knox looked like they started playing football 2 weeks ago. Nothing like being hyped up all off season only to get beat by a 1A school. Valley will roll them and Pioneer I am sure will be picking their chops after Judson handled their business last night. Pioneer looked great last night against Cass.

To be fair, North Judson is gonna be awfully good and it didn't shock me they won, just shocked me that they pulled away like they did.

I think Knox will beat Pioneer but I said all summer I don't think Knox is a top team in 3A because I don't think they'll be the best team in their conference. I think that's Valley but we'll find out week 4 I think.

My biggest issue is not having a QB. Myles is great. Conroy is a dude but they aren't QB's but I know under Coach Radtkes system most of the time the QBS are just a rich man's Runningback.

What offense did Winamac run?

I'll be the first to admit they proved me wrong already. Hopefully they can keep improving.

WC had a lot of opportunities to win that game but they beat themselves with penalties and 2 fumbles inside the 20. Inside the 20 4 times. I agree that the Winamac group will be good come next year and the year after. WC definitely gave them one there but with that said good game from both teams. Very clean respectful game, much respect for the Winamac sideline hopefully they stay healthy and have a good season.

I don’t agree with that.
my guess is that Knox rolls Pioneer but I could be wrong. Don’t under estimate how tough Judson is.

I don't think people are under estimating Judson and how good they are. I think the North goes through Judson in 1A this year. A lot thought Knox was a top 5 3A team and maybe the best team in the North. To lose to Judson by 3 scores makes you question that. Obviously its week 1 and a long way to go.

Just pointing out the hype with Knox and falling flat. I am sure that they will use this game, but they did not look at all prepared to handle business last night as a potential top 5 team in 3A. That was the Knox team that has 10+ kids from last season who had substantial playing and starting time. Until they can prove otherwise, I said what I said about Pioneer and their potential after watching their game against Cass.

Weren't two of those trips inside the 20 due to an interception that winamac threw and a fumble after a pick by a Winamac db? It was 24-8 at one point.  Winamac had chances to really put that game away but youth and not having much experience doomed them.

Both teams showed their youth last night and have a lot to clean up.

I didn't go to the scrimmage as you know but I was told Winamac didn't run that offense very much against WC.

Addison Allen and Tearson Wolford got a few more carries then they did in the scrimmage.

They still have some issues they'll need to work on and some won't go away this year due to lack of size and inexperience but one thing I'm definitely looking forward to is seeing the Sophomores and Freshman progress as the season moves forward...having the starting QB for 3 more years after this and most of the skilled guys/lineman for 2/3 more years after this is exciting. I'm also looking forward to seeing how Addison Allen and Talen Garner do in both their senior years.
