npcougar15 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 We kick things off with the first week of the new NIC; in all honesty not many story lines or intrigue this week but here we go anyway. Marian at Adams - CMA is the common opponent here. Marian hung closer but not much of a difference. I'm thinking the Knights offense will carry them to victory in this battle of teams looking for their first "W" of the season. Marian 28 Eagles 13 Penn at Riley © - Sports Michiana game of the week? yuk. What happened last week with Riley? heard they were losing 14-7 at halftime, game got postponed, Wayne tried to reschedule it; even offering to come to South Bend Saturday morning to get it in, and Riley declines? I know there are logistic issues to these things but that's not a good look for a program wanting respect. Anybody have any information on that. But this week probably won't go well for the Wildcats as the Kingsmen look to put last week in the review mirror. Penn 42 Riley 7 St. Joseph at New Prairie NP has dominated this series the last 2 decades, Cougars are 11-1 since the turn of the century vs STJ. NP has beaten up on 2 5A schools that just weren't great quality. STJ disposed of a pretty bad South team. NP has yet to give up a defensive touchdown this season and there offense has looked pretty good. NP 41 STJ 10 Washington at Elkhart Elkhart was able to get a win against NRidge. Washington is coming off a loss vs those southerns in New Albany. Elkhart has the athletes to run away with this one rather easily. Elkhart 45 Washington 6 Quote

Everyone who should win I’m guessing will win. Time to dismantle the conference and go there separate ways. Quote
Shoot_The_Hands Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Marian at Adams - Don't see this being much of a game. Both teams 0-2 but Marian hung with a good Mishawaka team. Had to think playing on Saturday didn't help much either against CMA. Adams is a dumpster fire right now, taking Marian in a landslide. Penn at Riley © - Not much to say about this one. Penn has to be looking to respond after a poor outing last week against Mishawaka. Riley is going to get a rude welcoming to the big side of the NIC. Penn in dominating fashion. St. Joseph at New Prairie Not sure what to think about SJ right now. Had a gritty comeback against Lakeland that fell short and only won by a couple of scores against arguably one of the worst teams in Ft. Wayne at the moment. Even with some new faces on the NP offense I think this will be a victory for NP by a couple of scores. Washington at Elkhart Although Washington is 0-2 they have had close games. Unfortunately don't think that will be the case this week going against a bigger and better Elkhart squad. Elkhart in a domination win at Rice Field. Quote
GOLDRUSH1985 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Not sure Penn is good enough to dominate anyone . Quote

ASJCPUMA Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Over many years, this defensive performance by St. Joe was one of the best I can remember. The plan was solid, and the boys followed it. It was an impressive performance. NP seems to have a 2 headed monster and if you keep them in check your chances are good. They contained both of them. Now SJ cannot rest on beating NP as they have to get ready for the Knights and the Holy War So, SB is down to 3 high schools and the product does not seem any better. Looks like Adams/Washington will fight for the cellar. Riley may be the best SBCSC team but will they crack the top 5 of the NIC? Quote

Seemed like the GID was down during Friday night and Saturday as nothing would load for me. Anyways Congrats to STJ they were 100% the better team Friday night. They came in with a game plan and executed to perfection. NP offense was pretty horrid. STJ should be a tough out going forward if their defense plays like that the rest of the season. Fun stat on the season is New Prairie has given up 7 points on defense this season and are 2-1. 🙃 NP came into the game completely unprepared and didn't make any meaningful adjustments. I've said it multiple times but NP struggles when they play a team with athletes and a coaching staff with a game plan. STJ was begging NP to throw the ball, so what does NP do? throw the ball 30-40 yards down field 100% of the time with a defensive line pressuring the QB all night long. Why not throw quick hitters, like 5 yard outs and slants? Pop passes to the tight end when there are 8 guys in the box looking run. I mean STJs Corners were playing 12 yards off the receivers and NP ran go routes the entire night; just insane. No counters, no screen passes, no nothing to deceive STJ. Very frustrating Quote

It felt like they were trying to practice plays, rather than allowing their playmakers to go out and make plays. I mean they wont run the ball with Watson, why IDK. It is bad. The only bright spots from the Riley game was the two back up running backs looked good. Quote

But didn't Penn only score 14 points in the first half? I can see them losing to Marian and Elkhart / NP . Unless something drastic happens , I don't see them beating any team in their Sectional . BLACKGOLD2007 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 I think all but maybe 1 penalty was called on Penn in the first half. Which was almost another 100 yards. They had a 50 plus yard TD called back. Then we went into this weird stretch of play calling that was a crystal ball for the ND game the next afternoon. Fans were screaming to just run the ball and run with Watson. Penn should have beat that team in the first half, and then practiced plays in the 3rd quarter. Penn will probably pull Crown Point in game one of sectionals and put this season to bed early. I cannot imaging Penn getting beat by Lake Central or Portage. Quote

Riley has some athletes, they just wore out against a bigger Penn team that did not play well at all. If Elkhart shows up blowout city. Quote
