First week of conference games for the new Indiana Northern States Conference. Who ya got?

Tippecanoe Valley @ Knox

TV pulls out a low scoring smash mouth game.

Jimtown @ John Glenn

TV/Knox is who everyone seems to think is top of the conference this year. Jimmies look really good despite that 1-2 record and could very well end up on top of this conference in year 1.

Laville @ Bremen

Bremen’s passing game will be too much for LaVille to keep up with.

Jimtown at Glenn - Jimtown's win over Fairfield was a shocker!  Not that they won really, but shutting out the Falcons with a running clock...Wow!  I will have to take the Jimmies in this matchup.  Jimtown 28-14

LaVille at Bremen - Triton has played both and I think this should be a competitive game.  But I think Bremen's experience and skill position players will win the night.  Lions 31-14

Tippecanoe Valley at Knox - How resilient will this Knox team be?  Before the season they would have been favored in this one for sure.  Now I don't know.  Radtke should have them ready to go.  I'm taking the Redskins at home in a high scoring game.  Knox 35-28

Jimtown at Glenn - Surprisingly Jimtown may be the best team in the conference. Jimmies 35-6

LaVille at Bremen - First year in the new conference is rough for the Lancers.  Don't look for them to have another win until week 9.  Lions 28-7

Tippecanoe Valley at Knox - Knox rebounds after a loss last week. Redskins major weakness on defense is agaist the pass and it's not tippy's strong suit. Knox scores enough to pull out the win over a tough TV team.  Knox 42-31

Bremen's defense has be good against inferior offenses, but the same can not be said for the offense. The passing attack with Laidig and Graverson has not be as good as one would think.  I have  agut feeling LaVille wins this one.  Season has been down for the Lancers but that coaching staff with have them prepared. LaVille 25-21.

Jimtown @ Glenn - Jimtown by 14, Jimtown being battle tested early in the season helps.

Laville @ Bremen - Bremen by 21, passing attack with Laidig at the helm and lack of defensive backfield for Laville makes it a long night for the Lancers.

Valley @ Knox - Knox by 7, battle of the trenches.  Valley's predictability will hurt them in this game, along with the lack being able to throw the ball on 3rd down will haunt the Vikes.  Valley will be outcoached in this matchup as I look for Knox to come out early with some adjustments not seen on film to date.

A few surprises last night.

Knox just absolutely bullied TV.

Glenn kept it closer than I expected.

LaVille with the upset.

I’m not sure anyone can match Knox’s  physicality after watching them just run through Tippecanoe Valley last night.

As I've said all year, Valley is only as good as their running game dictates.  Shut down the run and valley has no other options, passing they were 3-14 combined between both QBs.  Even the 3 passes that were caught were all desperation heaves that quite frankly should have been either intercepted or knocked down.  From watching their scrimmage against Fairfield, their best QB throwing the ball is a freshman, not sure their coaches philosophy on playing freshman but the kid could sling the ball a little bit as we saw.  Will be interesting to see how the Vikings try and create a passing game as we all saw what happened when a team can stop the run.  Valley constantly plays 8-9 guys 2 ways, which we saw Knox wear them down quickly.  With the numbers that valley has, they need to show some more depth defensively especially on the D-Line.  Great win by Knox, could possibly setup a regional matchup between our Falcons and their Redskins.

Anyone interested in this week's matchups?

Bremen at Jimtown - I've got Jimtown with a solid win.  35-7
Glenn at Knox - Give me Knox by quite a bit.  42-20
Tippecanoe Valley at LaVille - I can't imagine LaVille keeping this very close, but if they can slow down the run maybe they can make it competitive.  I'll take Valley.  28-14

Bremen at Jimtown - Give me the Jimmies by 21

Glenn at Knox - I'll take Knox by 28, 49-21

Valley at Laville - I think the Lancers come out and try to stop the run early however Valley's size may wear them out.  Closer than the experts think but I'll take valley 21-17

Bremen is dead with Graverson being out and coaching staff not putting other kids in position to succeed.  Leeper is so tied to his system and his damn the torpedo attitude sets his team up for failure. He is a good guy, but definitely the weakest head coach in the conference.

Same goes for the coach over at Valley, arrogant (just watch the way he conducts himself on film) and failure to put kids in a position to succeed...If you're old man played at valley, your dad is a sponsor, or your friends with coaches kids you will play.  So much talent in that program Senior - Freshman to not compete in the big games when it actually matters or even not having 8-9 kids playing both ways.  All the talk about how great the program is yet, no sectional title since 1992???

I'm not a huge fan of Valley either, but I'm sensing some pure hate towards them from you lol. They are one of the most winning programs in the state over the last five years. Yes, they haven't won a Sectional title since 1992, but a lot of those years they played a state championship Chatard team first round of the playoffs. Not many 3A teams have had much success against Chatard. I have a lot of respect for Coach Moriarty. Before he got there Valley was either hot or cold every year. He has brought a lot of wins and consistent success to the program. One loss to a tough Knox team is not the end of the world for Valley. Not saying its going to get any easier in the conference they have to play now, but we'll see how the rest of the year goes for them. I would agree they could play a few more guys one way to lighten the load for players and get more out of them. The talent and depth is definitely there for that.

How serious is the injury? Hopefully with it being his senior year he will be able to come back and play before the season is over. Rochester played Bremen in an 11 on 11 over the summer and we were impressed with a lot of their players. Hopefully they can figure out how to get those guys the ball moving forward in the season. I had Bremen as a sleeper in their Sectional. May not be the case anymore based off of what you've seen from the team.

Jimtown wins with running clock.

Knox wins with running clock.

TV pulls away late over LaVille 31-14 in the only halfway competitive game.

Wow, sounds like it’s personal here with your TV hate. But in all honesty, a small 3A school in a rural community - 90% of the kids on Valleys team (and every other types of these small town rural teams) fit in one of your categories “old man played at valley, your dad is a sponsor, or your friends with coaches kids”

So it would only make sense that those are the kids that play - because that basically covers the entire team.

Nothing personal just calling it as I see it as an outsider, TV has depth from what I see at all 3 levels (Freshman, JV, and Varsity).  As seen all year long, valley has no Quarterback game and when teams stop the run as Knox did, Laville did for 2 quarters...they will be beat.  The QB running game is not working for TV 10 carries for 13 yards is not efficient, if they find a passing game they will find success in the post season.  The sectional is lining up to be a battle as we see West Noble and Garrett both sitting a top both undefeated. Until then they are just like the Cubs, better luck next year.

Looking forward to catching the Jimtown vs TV game on hudl, should be an old school feel to this game.  My falcons head to Angola to face off for last place in the conference should be a decent game.
