Tippy Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 This should be the most exciting LCC/WL game since 2016, when LCC beat WL 28-25. WL has won the last 7 games and leads the series 37-16. This is the 54th meeting between the two schools. They have played every year since 1959, except for 1995 and 1996 and 2001-2010. It is always hard for LCC to beat WL. Even when LCC won state in 1976, LCC only beat WL 12-6 in (2OT). WL went 5-5 in 1976. October 2, 1976 - It was Homecoming at LCC and Tom Weber scored the TD in the 2nd overtime for LCC. Troy Burgess had 110 yards rushing in the game for LCC. LCC 0-6-0-0-0-6 WL 6-0-0-0-0-0 The largest margin of victory for LCC over WL was in 1994. LCC won 38-7 that year. WL went 0-9 in 1994. Elsner was the QB for LCC. Kevin Sanson, Matt Buche, Tom Vaughan, and Nick Rooze scored for LCC in that game. LCC had 234 yards rushing against WL in 1994. LCC 12-13-7-6 WL 0-7-0-0 The most impressive win over WL was in 1969. LCC went 10-0 that year beat WL 30-0. That was the only loss for WL in 1969. That was the 14th straight win for LCC when they beat WL. WL only had 26 yards rushing in that game. Delaney had a 65 yard put return for LCC. Dewenter and Mills were the QB's for LCC and Metzinger was the Fullback. LCC 0-16-0-14 WL 0-0-0-0 2 Quote

BTW, this last Friday's game was Youth Night at LCC where they introduced the junior high players and cheerleaders and also introduce the youth players, 3rd - 6th grade. There's an Anthrop in that group along with other names from the folks that were in the four-peat group. 1 Quote

Delphi had a great run the next yr under storied Coach Berto... and the Mavs fumbled away the win at Mish Marion at their own 2 yard line at the end of the game... First_Backer_Inside Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 The only opponent they share is Harrison I believe and that was a scrimmage for LCC. Anyone know how LCC looked against Harrison in that scrimmage? Looks like West Lafayette played them tough till the end. One was a scrimmage and one was a week 1 opponent. Both teams probably look totally different from then to now. Should be a good one. Quote

Hearsay as I didn't attend the scrimmage this year, but a couple folks I talked to in the stands Friday said that, as much as you can get from a scrimmage, LCC easily held their own against Harrison. Given what I saw in the scrimmage in 2023, that sounds similar. 1 Quote

LCC's averaging a bit over 20 receptions per game with almost 1,000 yards total and 10 receiving TDs across three games. Getting in passing to the other receivers will payoff for LCC more at the time that Clayton returns to play. Quote

They are without a doubt better with him on the field though. Can't coach 6'5", 185. Quote

I think WL and LCC matchup really well this year. Most of LCC's best players are Seniors. Bobby Metzger, Jackson Cain, Hudson Gutwein, Aj Delgatto, Charlie Seaburg, and Andrew Siemers are a big part of LCC's team. LCC will have to show that they can move the ball, so they can keep the defense off the field. It's going to be 90 degrees Friday and WL has more players. LCC will have to stop Dawson Martin. David Curl is WL's best player on defense. On defense, LCC can't give WL any 1, 2 and 3 play drives for a td. They will have to make WL drive the ball down the field and hope they make a mistake. Metzger can't throw a pick six. He has been known to do that in some games. I think he threw 2 interceptions against Twin Lakes. Quote

Maybe that's why Delphi was able to beat LCC in 1976. Quote

There's a decent amount of folks on that LCC team that aren't seniors too. Meister's a junior. Wyatt Williams is a sophomore. Thompson's a freshman. Baker's a junior. Boutelle's a junior. Eversman is a junior. Joey Metzger's a sophomore. One thing that I noticed with LCC is that most of their offensive possessions are relatively short. They have a no-huddle offense which slices time off the possessions and they tend to grab chunks of yards at a time. They basically have offensive drives that last about 3 minutes or less on average, at best, whether they score or turn the ball over. They had a 94-yard drive that took around 3 minutes or so and a 64-yard drive that went four plays in under a minute. In the second half, LCC received the ball, fumbled it away, defense stalled Twin Lakes, and LCC scored and there was still 9:03 left in the 3rd quarter ... less than 3 minutes INCLUDING Twin Lakes' time. They then turned around, forced a 3 and out and then scored again leaving 5:31 on the clock in 3rd quarter ... basically 3 1/2 minutes to score, again INCLUDING Twin Lakes' time. That was a 9-play, 40-yard drive for LCC. About the only thing I think LCC can do at this point is, perhaps, still go no-huddle, but still burn the play clock for the full 40 seconds. A 40-yard, nine play drive would then take about 6 minutes off of the clock as opposed to under 3 minutes. With that said, I'm not sure that would work for LCC because that tempo is just built in to everything they do on offense and I suspect that bleeding the clock in a no-huddle might actually throw off their rhythm. I pointed out, in the Week 5 scores thread, that LCC did last night what only two programs have been able to do to West Lafayette in the last decade: keep West Lafayette's offense to a TD or less. Harrison did that last season, allowing only 6 points in a Red Devil loss of 42-6. Chatard, in 2022, won 21-3, and again in 2015, 32-7 in the state championship game. Meanwhile, Meister put up 140+ yards rushing and ended up with his third 100+ yard game in four games. Making things even sweeter for the Knights was the fact that the game was at West Lafayette and also it was WL's homecoming/senior night. Used to tell the young Knights that there's something special about being on the road and taking a game from the home team on their field. While it was fun playing at home, they enjoyed being on the road. I suspect last night was a memory for them for several reasons. Not a long trip back over the river to Lafayette, but probably one where the bus just floated on the air. The Knights play there next two games at LaRocca against Rensselaer and Tipton, before heading up 52 to play Benton Central and then returning home to cap off the regular season against "younger brother," Guerin Catholic, which will likely be the determinant as to whether LCC has a shot at an undefeated regular season with WL now behind them. Wow! What a game! The defense play their best game of the year. I didn't think LCC would win the game. I thought WL would score 3 or 4 td's. WL scored 22 on Harrison and 34 on McCutcheon. The last time LCC held WL to 7 points was in 1994, when LCC beat WL 38-7, but that game was at LCC and WL went 0-9 that year. This reminds me of 1989 when LCC went over to WL and beat them 14-6. WL had beaten LCC the last 12 years and nobody thought LCC would beat WL that night. LCC made 2 FG's in that game in 1989, just like last night. LCC went on to win the sectional 17-7 in 1989, when they broke the law against Sheridan, and shut down Brett Law, Indiana's leading rusher. Last night was a really big win for LCC, they couldn't even hold WL to 7 points during the Anthrop years. But they didn't play WL until Danny's senior year. 2 Quote

foxbat Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Not sure of the exact numbers, but I believe it's a few. It's not like the older days of the 4-peat teams where you might only have one guy playing both ways. The plan though, in the program, is still built around freshness. Instead of having 11 first-stringers and playing them both ways, building up closer to two teams of first-stringers so each side gets an opportunity to get a break. There are roughly 53 kids rostered for their varsity, but that also includes JV numbers, so there's some considerations on game day of just who plays to make sure there are enough for the JV game ... no small feat given that LCC's JV schedule this year has included Harrison, McCutcheon, and West Lafayette.
