rob Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 What are your thoughts about double headers? I know they are quite common in the MS events - a 7th grade game followed by an 8th grade game. What about a freshmen game followed by a JV game or vice versa? On a Saturday? Pros: Two games for the same mileage. Cons: Longer day Makes one late to watch/officiate/timekeep that college game later. I am going under the assumption that you are paid for 2 games. Do/would schools pay less per game since you are saving mileage? Quote

Most school will pay you what you would make for both games since there is a chance an official only does one game Quote

You do not have to sign up for both if you have an afternoon commitment. Just as long as they put it in EventLink as 2 events. Sometimes with MS games they put it in as a single event but list it as a DH. Quote
0 JustRules Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 The main benefit for the schools is they only have to find half as many officials. Instead of Carroll hiring a crew of 4 for the freshman game they are hosting and Snider hiring a crew of 4 for the JV game they are hosting, they can do a double header and hire a crew of 4 to do both games. The pay from I hear is worth it for the official to do both games (assuming they are physically able), and collectively the schools don't have to find as many officials. Win win for both. Quote
0 Bobref Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Back in the old days, a bunch of us had Illinois reciprocal licenses. We’d work an Indiana game Friday night. Then on Saturday, we’d go over to Illinois. They’d play the JV game at 11 a.m., and then the varsity game immediately thereafter, and we’d work both. Quote

Does Ohio have reciprocal licenses? I have officiated an Indiana game with one gent who was from OH. I just assumed he originally was from IN and just kept his IN ties. Quote
