If I were a betting man (and I am not) I would think Chatard goes 3A south. Last year all 4 north sectionals had 8 teams, while 3 of the south sectionals only had 7.

Also, Hamilton Heights, Guerin, and Crawfordsville were south last year.

I can’t imagine that many teams shuffled between classes to move them north.

And don’t forget by unwritten rule Guerin and Chatard have to be in the same sectional - so I don’t see both moving north

Based on numbers right now Guerin is 4A due to enrollment, so them and Chatard will probably not be in the same class even. Neither of the 3A North semistate teams will be in 3A next year. Knox will be 2A and Luers 4A, so there are two teams already that are moving from the North in 3A to different classes. With that being said, Andrean, Adams Central, and possibly Eastbrook are all going to potentially move up to 3A. There is going to be a lot of movement this next cycle based on the numbers potentially. I think you are correct in saying Chatard should end up 3A South, but I've seen crazier things happen. There was one cycle LCC all the way up in Lafayette played in a 2A south sectional lol.

Not to detract from football, but Benton Central girls basketball came out of the south to advance to their last state championship appearance.

Not really a sleeper but a school with no real tournament success is Riverton Parke.  They had South Putnam on the ropes last year in the sectional.  They return several key starters on both sides of the ball and South Putnam is 2A now.  Look for RP to make a run.

They’re my south favorite for next year. Several big experienced linemen returning.

Benton Central will also be viewed as a dark horse in football as well. They now have the legendary Herb King as their head coach. Look for them to be much much improved and be competitive in most all of their games. He takes not so great teams and makes them great team.

Have you looked at Benton Central's schedule? You please tell me who they are beating this year?

With coach King leading this group they can compete in any game on their schedule

I like this, for others to believe in you, you must first believe in yourself! Wish them the best of luck!

I really thought after a few years with Andy coaching them, he would get them to at least a winning record, great coach and an even better guy from my experiences talking with him and hearing even more about him. I fear Benton Central isn't a coaching problem, it is a culture problem that is gonna take a few years. I'm not saying Herb can't eventually make them better. I don't see it happening in year one. It's going to take time.

That's crazy that they would be a south school!

There are a LOT more 3A schools in the northern half of the state than the southern half.
