Joe Barry is out as DC. Not that I was rooting for it, but his scheme was off most of the year. Too complicated? possibly, but too many mistakes were made throughout the season; mistakes that occurred even when they won games.

Interesting names have come up as far as who is being interviewed. Brandon Staley (I was really surprised), Bobby Babich (would be a solid hire), and Aden Durde. Not really familiar with Durde other than he was the D Line coach in Dallas and was with Quinn in ATL; and he is from the UK.

I will be curious to see what moves are made this off season. Greatest needs in my mind are safety, CB, especially if Alexander signs elsewhere which appears to be the case from he posted on his twitter. I would love to see a true middle linebacker added; a guy similar to Fred Warner of SF. Campbell and Walker are ok as OLB's, but neither is stout enough to play in the middle against the run. McDuffie is similar to them. I would really like to see Walker just become an edge rusher. he looks slow and lost in pass coverage.

While sad to see him go, it had to happen. 13 starts in 3 seasons. When he was healthy, he was dominant. I LOVE this moment. From the last game he played for Green Bay, and his final salute to the Bears....Classic Bakhtiari!

I am guessing he will be A A Ron's teammate soon

The schedule is out.

Interesting notes.

1. 4 straight prime time games starting with 2 Thursday night games. The Lions also have back to back Thursday games.

2. Only one Monday night game.

3. Only one Sunday night game.

I am ok with the lack of prime time games. I hate staying up to watch them. At least I will be on Winter break for the Monday night game though.

Packers trim the roster, and AJ Dillon has been injured with a stinger, and not designated to return is tough to take. That said, I am pretty sure I was saying keep Jones and move Dillon. Loved them both, but if this was an either or spot.....go with Jones. I am surprised to see Toure on this list. I really thought he was developing into a solid role player. Newman needed to go. he was a liability in the 9ers game. I was a fan of Sean Clifford as a back up QB as well, but understand that backups travel often.

Nice win, but they SHOULD have put this one away early. Jacobs has over 100 yards in the 1st half, and the team has over 200 yards rushing in the 1st half and only 10 points to show for it. It was nice seeing the run game featured though. I do think Jacobs showed one thing he has that Jones did not; and it is in no way a knock on Jones. But Jacobs has that move; stick a foot in the ground and go where the opening is, where Jones would just run through with no plant foot.

It's also nice the Packers won this one so my students cannot talk crap like they did all week leading up to the weekend. 😄

Serious question:  How can the Bears become perennial contenders/winners like the Packers are?   What is different, owner and organization wise, that has made Green Bay the premier NFL team in the upper Midwest?

Timing has been huge for the team and city. And honestly, luck has sure played a part. I still remember in the mid 80's Frank DeFord did a cover story for Sports Illustrated saying it was time for the Packers to move to Milwaukee. A series of bad/sentimental hires kept the team down in the 70's and 80's. There was also the R issue in the 80's. James Lofton was a big trade for them, but after he had some trouble with law enforcement, there was pressure on the team to get rid of him and they did. It sent a strong message in the early years of free agency moves. Ron Wolf Was the first piece put in place in 1991. He really was the architect of what we see now. Interesting story...Lindy Infante was the coach at the time. He knew the first day of training camp that he was going to fire Infante. What he saw at practice in just one day was enough. But he never believed in firing a coach during the season. They finished that season 4-12. Wolf was able to hire Mike Holmgren, trade for Favre, and sign Reggie White as a free agent. That was a HUGE signing because there was a reputation that black players struggle in Green Bay. He also drafted Edgar Bennett and Mark Chmura that year. Favre took over the starting QB job during that season. They were now on track. Wolf may have stayed a bit too long though. Losing Holmgren was huge. But I did feel they definitely should have had more than the 2 appearances in the Super Bowl they had.

One HUGE factor in some level of consistency has been the fact that they had Favre and Rodgers stay healthy and play as long as they did. How many teams had just 2 QB's span a 30 year time frame?

Historically, you can also credit George Halas. In the late 50's the league was considering eliminating teams that could not compete. Green Bay was at the top of the list. They were not competing; they were in a small town. Halas called the commissioner and said if Green Bay does not have a team, the league will not survive.

Another moment; Jim Lee Howell retired as the head coach of the Giants. The replacement was an obvious one. Lombardi was from Jersey, and wanted to be home coaching. He was in his 2nd season in Green Bay, and his wife was miserable there. Her family was all back East as well. Halas called Pete Rozelle who was in his first year as commissioner and said he needed to convince Lombardi to stay in Green Bay. Rozelle made the call, and the rest is history.

So thank you Papa Bear

Nice road win. Happy for Willis to be the starter for that win against his former team. Even though Tennessee is 0-3, the future is bright. Their defense was solid for most of the game against the run. They had a couple nice drives that lead to TD's. The Packers did get 8 sacks and 2 picks (one for a TD). They have matched the total number of picks they got last season.

I have long been a critic of MLF, but will give him credit. They have run the ball often and run it well. The screen game looks much better than previous seasons as well. Hopefully those things continue when Love comes back.

Big test next Sunday against a surprisingly good Vikings team. If Willis plays next week, he needs to be a bigger factor in the run game.

While Love had some solid throws, he made WAY too many mistakes. He ignored open receivers underneath that were open to take deep shots to receivers who were covered.

Defensively, the plan was to apparently not blitz and let Darnold throw....what a horrible idea. And I am not sure how with 7 guys in coverage that receivers were still wide open.

Playing well for maybe 15 minutes of the game was not enough.

Love played better today. Love seeing the defense force turnovers. Solid effort all around, but damn, how is there not a decent kicker available for them?

Another sloppy game, but another win nonetheless. Have to play much better to have a chance against the Lions next week. It will be interesting with Willis getting the full week of reps at QB with Love injured.

While the Lions were dominant today, it just seems like LaFleur cannot get a team ready for games on this level. One thing I really do not get is taking the ball at the start of the game when you win the toss. This is not the first time this year where a team has scored against them late in the half and got the ball to start the 2nd half. I also think that Love has developed some really bad habits. He tries to hard to make a play and has put his team in a bind twice now giving up a pick 6 on a ball that should never be thrown. He was close to another pick on a stupid throw late in this one as well.
