"You guys were only up 21-0 before shutting us out 41-0" doesn't help your argument.

Good thing these teams play on Sept 23rd so we can ask ourselves these questions after then with no excuses.

What excuses are you talking about? AC won twice last year, I’m just providing evidence that could possibly lead to SA over North Judson. I’m not saying SA over everybody, I’m just fighting back on your arrogance that our ranking is only piggy backing off AC.

I think it's seriously flawed based on what both teams return in 2022. The polls should be based on this year's teams and I don't think there's a chance SA would compete with North Judson this year.  North Judson returns most of their starters and SA lost Wanner and Schoch.

I'm not sure what I said that would be considered arrogant. The comment by another poster about SA being ranked because of their association with AC can definitely be taken as arrogant, but nothing I said should offend you. I acknowledged SA has a solid program with consistent success, but I think another team deserves to be #3 over them. If ranking NJ ahead of SA simply because they have had really good seasons in the past is arrogant, then I'm guilty. I'd likely also put Park Tudor and Triton over SA (I'm sure you'll also be offended by that). The HNAC posters on GID are extremely confident in NJ (much more arrogant than anything I've said). If you're offended by my statements, then maybe the GID isn't for you.

The arrogant statement I was referring to was the previous one, not so much anything you posted. Probably didn’t need to go in my reply to you. And absolutely nothing against North Judson, I agree they probably are better on paper than SA because of what was lost. I’m just fighting back on SA not being deserving, because that pissed me off. SA could be ranked third, could be ranked tenth, doesn’t matter to me. It’s being called out for not being deserving, especially someone suggesting it’s only a piggyback off AC.

Also want to note SA still returned 7 on offense and 6 on defense, so it’s not like it’s a clean sweep of new guys. That doesn’t include one guy on each side of the ball with a start or two. And also returning a QB that threw for 1600 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore.

It pains me to say that SA has earned the benefit of the doubt for these early polls. The program has been consistently solid in the last several years. That being said, any early 1A poll with SA over North Judson is seriously flawed. Early polls mean absolutely nothing, though. It will all play itself out.

Why would that way of thinking be seriously flawed? AC put a running clock on North Judson last year by halftime, while the SA regional game was only 21-0 before the wheels completely fell off on the 4th quarter.

The statements regarding SA on their ranking on basis to AC is incredibly arrogant based on SA’s body of with the past 5-6 years.

    Ill take a second bite.

Obviously the polls early in the year are based on recent success. I am biased but there is no way SA is the 3rd best team in 1A.  If they are, its gonna be a rough year for the rest of the north. SA has lost to AC in the playoffs 3 of the last 5 years, the other 2 they just didnt play AC. They get prestige by being associated.(ill give them credit for 2020 because they were actually a really good team)  This year they are in AC's sectional.

Just take it at a quick glance and move on

Are you saying SA only gets prestige for being associated with AC? Yes, AC in recent history has had our number, but we have also won three straight sectionals, 10+wins 3 straight years, 7+ wins for 6(?), and are still consistently ending games early. SA has earned the benefit of doubt for early poll placements.

Probably a mix. AC is good and should improve, just not sure if they're at full throttle just yet. Garrett just couldn't handle the speed on the field.

I only saw the replay, but I thought Garrett didn’t look like they knew how to play football. Or at least they gave up pretty early. AC obviously looked good, but I still have no clue how good. The Eastside game will be much more telling.

Looks like you may have to pay for the Garrett webcast? Berne Witness only has South Adams vs Arcanum tonight. Did they not get enough sponsorship for Bellmont this year?

I think they only do Bellmont home games since they’re the third option here.

2 weeks till scrimmages for real!  Can’t wait!  How’d everyone thud scrimmages go?  Triton looked good against Wabash but hard to tell when whistles blow so fast!

South Adams scrimmaged Luers, Columbia City, and Mississinewa and held their own against some great competition.

Why can't we let kids be kids? I can see participation numbers becoming a problem in the future. I can also see multi sport athletes feeling pinched and becoming individualized athletes. Both trends that aren't needed. When do kids have time to be with friends or make $ to save up for a car? I can see having some team workouts and lifting. However the 7 on 7s and 11 on 11s seem to be overkill. As has been mentioned, no one wins anything of importance and it doesn't equate to postseason awards all the time. This is something the IHSAA needs to limit or just eradicate in my opinion.

Felt that squeeze this summer for wrestling. Had very little participation from the high schoolers so they “wouldn’t be sore” for a 7 on 7 they would have in 3 days. As a fan, it gives me something to follow waiting for football to start up. But some of these kids are getting caught up and cocky scoring a few times with no tackling or no lines and shirking any other summer activity for football.

I know for the Mooresville Sectional. During the seeding meeting. Mooresville's AD stated. If you want your coach to get in, they have to arrive with the team. If they do not arrive with the team, they have to pay. No number was stated as to how many, at least at Mooresville. I would assume the same was true for Regional as well.

I arrived with the full team, coaches and managers to sectional. They did a head count and proceeded to have us pay after that.

    Fair questions.  Thank you.

Should it be a coach allowed at every weight mat?

I would say you should have enough coaches to cover all 3 or 4 mats in case you have a wrestler on every single one of them. Like you don’t need 15 like Brownsburg does, but SA we have 6 for 14 varsity guys and we’re all always running around at tournaments.

I'm aware of at least one instance of a coach not making the cut for state because teams get limited passes.  He had to buy a ticket and sit in the stands.  That also happens to support staff but that's not as big of a deal.  JV kids have to buy their own tickets and sit in the stands thanks to the ridiculous IHSAA rules.

Ok, we’ll at least there’s some common ground. I might be stretching a little thin, cause in my head I’m comparing Crown Point for wrestling to South Adams for football. SA didn’t have enough people on the field to meet the limits a Center Grove would. But even then, that’s still dumb. If you absolutely need to restrict the sideline numbers, the least you could do is spot tickets for the kids that have to be in the stands.

So if you only get 2 coaches for every 3 wrestlers, that would be the same as 60 coaches for a football team of 90 players.  Let's say you're at a 1A school and only have 15 players on your team, then you can have 10 coaches?  I have been coaching wrestling for over 30 years and it has always been 2 coaches and a manager gets passes for the state finals.

First, let’s be real there are 15-20 man staffs where they coach max 25-30 kids. But my main point here, is how many of those coaches that out time, effort and energy into those kids had to pay to get in to sectional. Sectional has 14 wrestlers and they only allow 2 coaches in free. Why is that? What’s the difference between sectional football and sectional wrestling?

Wouldn't your school's athletic department pick up your ticket?

I think so, but either way why is the coach/school getting charged to coach their kids? I keep coming back to what’s the difference between these sports?

    I agree with @Grover

I don't know about all sports, but when I was a player I know the state finals for football was very strict. You had to have a pass or be on the team roster to be on the sidelines.  Ball boys/girls, trainers, and administrators all had to have passes.

In track, unless your representative was thrower, you have to stay in the stands.  I always have watched my student-athletes from the stands, even in the long jump and high jump.

But did you have to pay to get in to sectional to coach your thrower? I understand not getting to get to hang out in the high traffic areas at state, but did they make you pay to coach at early stages of the tournament?

In football there are rules that are written and rules that are enforced.  They usually aren't the same.  But the state finals rules for football were very strict and enforced.

Were football coaches denied at state? Any of them have to pay for a ticket? I wonder if they make the jv kids pay because they’re spectating on the sidelines?

  15. Wrestling right now is being treated as a joke by the IHSAA. Right now on Indianamat, we are discussing how differently coaches are treated come state time. Our wrestling team come sectional time only allowed three coaches, and myself as a volunteer assistant had to pay my way in. Surely this doesn’t happen for football or basketball, and all the coaches get in? And now they are only allowing two coaches per three kids in the finals.

You were right.  That momentum from the Strickland commitment propelled Purdue to an 8-win season and made IU go winless in conference.  Just imagine if he had chosen IU and all that momentum went the other way.  IU may well have been playing in the upcoming BTCG for a spot in the playoffs.  #LEO

    Excellent bump lol

Ok, so old #62 huh. At it again? Well not to say you maybe right or wrong it takes two to tangle , or is that tango? I get that confused.
But to take that ,and put it on today’s society? This takes to new level!

I have no clue what the hell your trying to say here. I’m just saying, this crap has been pulled by Ole Miss linemen since July, and obviously their coaches haven’t been able to do anything about it.
