Is this week finally the week? This is ridiculous, we’re closer to Valentines Day than Thanksgiving. There’s no reason to wait two months to release all state teams.

Unless this pops this weekend, the we will have officially hit Valentines Day before putting the final stamp on football season.

BTW the best 1A Running Back I have ever watched was Devin Moore (Ritter/Urban). Best running QB/DB was a tie between Nick Zachary (Sheridan/Rural) and Jack Kiser (Pioneer/Rural)

As far as shifty and speed, never seen that before in high school. I don’t have too much history watching a lot of IN high school football, but Wilson’s the best I’ve seen. Which is annoying, I’ve seen people post to “get better” when that’s something that absolutely cannot just get better at. Yes, I’m sure Wilson works hard, but a lot of that is God given ability that doesn’t pop up much out in the cornfields.

That is because classes in the IHSAA aren't determined on if a school is in a Urban or Metro area. It's determined by enrollment. Park Tudor (a private school) located in prime area in Indianapolis has the same pool of potential players and have won 5 games only 1 time in the last 15 years. most years a 2 win or 3 win season is the norm and there are several 1 win and even an 0 fer.

I don’t care about them, they don’t has as much invested in their football program. Stud athletes aren’t looking at Park Tudor for football. Giving examples of small private schools that don’t attempt to be great at football is a weak excuse for the CCs, Lutherans, and Luers of the world. Saying Park Tudor struggles doesn’t take away the fact of CCs advantage. And what difference does it mean to Park Tudor if they also go 2A? They’ll lose the same games there too.

Not fired up what so ever and have no ties to Covenant Christian. I'm stating even if he was at WC as a freshman or soph what does it have to do with anything. He was at TC Howe and transfered to CC only after Howe closed its doors. I am asking you if he did (which it has been stated that he didn't) go to WC for 2 years what is your point? Does WC give their kids a special drink (ala Space Jam) and it makes them so much better? There are kids that transfer ALL the time (I'm sure South Adams isn't immune to transfer or move in kids). T.C. Howe closed completely for good, what is the issue if his parents chose CC afte Howe closed?

The issue as it pertains to the broad subject is that CC had an opportunity to get a kid of Wilson’s caliber at all due to being an Indy school and still compete at 1A. Yes, south adams has got some kids moved in over the years, but at best they are all ACAC or even honorable mention all state players coming from other small town communities. Wilson was one of the best running backs I’ve ever seen, and he was playing 1A. You have to be delusional to think private schools in metro areas have the same 1A limitations that the county 1A schools of Indiana have. And I am not saying CC recruits, they just happen to have a larger pool of potential players than an SA does, and still gets to be 1A.

So it seems like SA will be the favorite in the North until someone proves otherwise.

BTW, completely off-topic ... I thought about your post the other day while watching football over the weekend.  I'm not even sure what game it was as I just had ESPN 3 on all day because the Aggies would be play, but I thought I saw a kid with the same spelling as Schoch and the commentators pronounced it correctly.  Probably would have never registered on my radar screen if not for you previous post.  So thanks for passing along that pronunciation tip ... you helped me learn something else. 🙂

I sure hope they can get back down. Well see. Like I said, we have talent but it’s going to depend on a lot of development of our new linemen. And this assumes AC goes to 2A. Monroe Central will also be tough next year. And I’m glad I could educate you lol. Now just gotta work on the Northeast football announcers.

Yeah, he was pretty good.  They did seem to have some other engines on that team too, but I have no idea at all whether they were also seniors or not.  I guess the question with the QB issue in mind is, while the QB will be hard to replace, is the guy coming in to "fill his shoes" closer to 80% or 50%.  If it's the former and those other engines return, I think SA does well.  If it's closer to 50%, as you state it could mean that he's not really going to be a replacement.

No one can replace James Arnold, but we’ll be set at QB with Aidan Wanner next year. He spent the past few years playing wide receiver at an all state level. He can pass the ball well, but will add more mobility than James provided. SA should have the skill positions covered, mostly with Trey Schoch returning. SA can field a good team, it’s all going to depend on how well of a line can be developed. We return only one lineman, our center Sam Plattner, who has played any varsity action before, but there are guys I believe that can do well. Going back to Aidan, don’t be surprised if he’s one the most dominant players in 1A next year. He’s getting recruited by some MAC schools.

What else did the IHSAA Half ass?

They put our head coaches name on the pre game video as Doug Beall, our head statistician, instead of Grant Moser. His name is listed on Maxpreps since he’s in charge of that, but that’s such a big oversight. I also expected more from a professional announcer in terms of pronouncing names correct. I know SA has some weird names, but someone even halfway decent would check with some SA person on some of the names. Our Berne Witness guys do it every week with the opposing team.

  8. Is there any chance a small school player gets thrown a bone as a finalist? I know he won’t win, but James Arnold should at least be considered as a finalist. He led the state in passing yards and touchdowns, while nearly leading a comeback for the ages in the state title game. I know he won’t win, but it would be pretty cool to see him listed as a finalist.

There were a lot of really good plays on both sides of the ball by both teams.  The one thing that I saw that stuck out with me, besides that long run winding run by Micah at the very end of the game after SA had scored their last go ahead TD, was on SA's very last TD.  I didn't catch the number, but the back got into the end zone almost unscathed ... but right before he got in, someone going through that hole first made a jarring contact with the defender.  Like I said, I didn't catch the number and the kid's build looked more like a QB than a lineman, but the contact looked like it was all line.  Those are the kinds of things that get lost in the highlight reels, but that speak to your observation.

Went back and watched, that was 15 Nick Miller, our TE/FB/DE. I didn’t realize til I looked for it here, but he leveled a kid on that play. He has been Mr. Do Everything for us for four years, and he played a hell of a game on Saturday. He normally doesn’t play with much emotion, he’s just a pretty reserved laid back kid, but you could see his heart on his sleeve and how bad he wanted to win that game.

I also kind of hoped it would be 70 who you were referring to, because he actually was a backup quarterback the past 3 years. He gained some weight over the offseason, and ended up starting at guard for us this year.

LCC was wrecked by COVID this season.  They also aren't as strong this season as they were last season ... with or without COVID.  Without COVID LCC plays SA stronger, but COVID wasn't the reason for a 5 TD differential.  Even with COVID LCC should not play BC to a 28-12 win.  LCC hasn't scored less than 30 against BC since 2008 and hasn't let BC score two TDs worth of points since LCC went 4-6 in 2017.  Looking at the details tells you much more than looking at the meta in this situation.

As for my statements about LCC and COVID, saying that LCC was wrecked by COVID and claiming, as you seem to be implying that SA's win wasn't legit because LCC was wrecked by COVID are two very different things.  Let's put those in perspective as I was responding to YOUR insights that somehow LCC getting a bye gave them an advantage playing SA.

Also, as for Luers being a "fixture" in state finals, before this season it was 2012 since they were last in LOS.

Luers hasn’t been to state since 2012 because for the most part, they were up in 3A during that time. Still winning sectionals and regionals, but more along their actual competition level. The reason they had so much success is because of how long they were down in 2A.
