Maybe if several such positions would go unfilled due to the monetary compensation packaged things would change. Doesn't an "obscene" amount of time demand a similar amount of monetary compensation? And I see more assistant coaches than ever on high school sidelines on Friday nights. Don't their jobs exist to reduce this supposedly "obscene" amount of time for the head coach?

"obscene" is a bit of hyperbole here IMHO. And if it truly is "obscene" then we as adults, parents, coaches, administrators, fans, etc. really need to reconsider the importance we are putting on a game played by children.
