I always wondered these two high school towns why don’t they merge and create a super school like Carmel

More opportunities. Better for students and athletes!! Much better!!

The side the pressbox is on used to be the home bleachers (1972-2013). In 2014, they moved the home crowd to the visitor’s side of the field. Those bleachers used to be smaller than the old home bleachers. Not sure why exactly they switched sides but I’m guessing 42 seasons of complaints about the home fans having to stare into the sun during early season games might have had something to do with it.

Yes I did know that. Just confused why they would not have added a pressbox when adding the new home stands. Now I bet they wish they had having to tear down what is previously there on the new visitor side.

Or maybe Center Grove could stop being a school full of racism.  You ever stop to think why MULTIPLE schools don’t want to play you in sports and why a Superintendent at another district threatened the AD that she would not let her son travel to Center Grove for sporting events due to repeated racist attacks?

Your comment just proves why now SEVEN schools have dropped Center Grove in at least one sport over the last three years.

Which schools are those? Looking like in 2024 that all of the MIC schools with the exception of Carmel and North Central will be back on CG football schedule. Meaning they retracted their previous statements. Also, I’m fairly positive that Carmel will continue to play CG in pretty much every other sport going forward. I’m curious to hear which schools you are talking about?

    In a way it is.

If you can prove there has been actual collusion going on between multiple Indiana high hchool A.D.'s to deny Center Grove football contests then by all means provide that proof to the IHSAA.  Otherwise the IHSAA should stay out of it, the last time I checked they were not in the business of scheduling regular season athletic contests.

It is not.  But it should be.

So you’re telling me you don’t want CG in the tournament? Why? How would that benefit you or the IHSAA? You want those kids at CG to suffer because adults made decisions that seem ridiculous to me.

Sucks to be them, then.   I still don't think they should be allowed to participate in the IHSAA state tournament with a schedule containing less than 5 IHSAA member schools.

Life isn't fair sometimes.  Get used to it.

Then the IHSAA needs to step in and help them. It isn’t CG’s fault teams will not play. That’s pretty much stating that you can get a group together to not play a certain school because you don’t want to compete against them in the tournament. By the way, I do not think that is an actual rule.

Not sure how Lebanon would do playing Harrison.  Harrison just blanked them yesterday in JV baseball like 19-0.

The interesting question that I see is perhaps West Lafayette.  West Lafayette has played all three of Lafayette-area big teams in football in the recent past and has done quite well.  It would certainly up their game playing 2-3 large teams every year plus a slate of, maybe, mid-range 5A/4A.  Wonder if you would see something like Lebanon, West Lafayette, Harrison, McCutcheon, and perhaps grabbing a couple from the Mid-State?

Frankly, putting travel aside for a minute, I'd like to see them link up with Carmel, Center Grove, and possibly toss in Penn.  Could potentially join Mid-State too.  Maybe a pair for the MIC?

Definitely some options for games in the coming years with schools now being out of conferences.

I can’t see the mid state wanting to bring in Harrison or Mccutcheon.

  6. That will put the NCC at 7 schools after the conclusion of the 2023-2024 seasons. Does the NCC have plans to add a school? Maybe this is something that has provoked it. Also, with talks of Lebanon being pushed out of a conference, does this have something to do with Harrison and Mccutcheon possibly wanting to set something up with them?

Not that I think we’d disagree on this, but I’d point out that in the “Big Sports” the HCC has caught up with Carmel.

Would the hounds dominate most of the other sports?? Probably…especially swimming (and tennis?).

But HCC schools seem to be right there with Carmel in Football & Basketball

Have heard multiple rumors from both sides. Some saying HCC legitimately wants Carmel in their conference and other schools stating they want nothing to do with them.

It’s funny as time goes on that that is the accepted narrative by the majority.  It’s funny watching current “MIC 6” schools claim conference championships though.  BD boys basketball probably the only legitimate one in all honesty.

As for the OP, I like this a lot.  I do feel like Carmel, Center Grove, and Brownsburg would dominate in this format though.

Still thinking that MIC schools will eventually realize they made a huge mistake. They’ve messed up and eventually will NEED them back. As far as the relationship between Carmel and CG, well you know how I feel.

  8. I have just been designated to fix the conference realignment issue in central Indiana. By the way of breakfast and a round of golf with all AD’s and principals of the schools, everyone is on board and there are no more hard feelings. Conferences are now set based on enrollments, location, and competitiveness in not only football, but in all sports. Here we go!

HCC: Carmel, HSE, Fishers, Noblesville, North Central, Westfield, Zionsville.

With the departure of Avon, Brownsburg, and FC, HCC adds Carmel and North central. It becomes the true Northside conference of Indy. HCC also becomes the best conference in the state in all sports

MIC: Avon, Brownsburg, Ben Davis, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, Pike, Warren Central.

The “new” MIC adds Avon and Brownsburg. This conference is able to keep many of the same great rivalries that have always been there. Plus the great rivalry of the 2 suburbs on the west side.

Southside Conference: Center Grove, Columbus North, Decatur Central, Franklin Central, Perry Meridian, Southport.

With Conference Indiana folding, the Southside conference is created by CG. They take some of the CI schools and mid state schools to form with the addition of FC as well. A true Southside conference bringing back old rivalries and close travels. CG will start off being way ahead on the gridiron, but give it some times and FC and Columbus with figure out competition in helping them for the future. Decatur will rise as well, as their enrollment is almost at 6A level.

Mid-State: Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Franklin Community, Greenwood, Martinsville, Mooresville, Plainfield, Whiteland.

With Perry and Decatur going back to their traditional roots, the Bloomingtons slot in nicely to the ultra competitive mid state conference. Very similar sizes of schools all coming from nice communities who back athletics. With Whiteland growing, look for them to potentially reach out to the Southside conference down the road.

3 out of 4 of these conferences are under 8 schools. This is perfect from a football standpoint in allowing availability for non conference matchups. It’s too bad something like this couldn’t be developed in the future. What are your thoughts? Where did I go wrong? What changes could be made? Are there other schools that could fit? Only 5 more months until football season!!!

Younger Gillin is at IC. Mooresville will remain competitive until the Mike G decides to hang it up. They are losing a previous top 5-10 qb in the state though.

Is younger Gillin gearing himself up for that position of HC at mooresville once coach is done?

  10. According to John Harrell’s website, CG and Carmel game is still on the schedule. Obviously there was a meeting held not too long ago so will be interesting to see if Carmel goes back or not. I have heard rumblings of Carmel having an out of state opponent lined up for week 2 to replace CG.

As of now, 4 out of the first 5 games for CG are out of state private schools. 3 of which are home games.

    How so?

Schools choosing to isolate a specific school in particular sports. What does that say about our society and adults? This can only set a precedent for other schools to do the same. You don’t see the HHC kicking new pal out and then schools choosing to not play them when they have gone through their dominant years. CG is a public school that is a huge contributor for the Ihsaa. They need to step in. It is dangerous for what could continue to happen or what potentially could happen in the future for the state of athletics in Indiana high school sports.

I didn't say that the adults in Indiana don't feel like its a big deal.   I get that the adults are upset about it.

I specifically would like to know... how are thousands of student athletes being penalized?  I just don't see how the athletes at either school are being penalized.  If they were losing out on games, at bats, football snaps, etc. then I could see it, but they will probably not have any less games because the two schools won't play in the regular season in the future.  Those games will be replaced with others.

I believe CG is being hurt by not just this instance but by the entirety of all the remaining “MIC” schools choosing to not play them. There are kids losing opportunities or will lose opportunities.

So... how are THOUSANDS of student athletes being penalized?  It's just one game per year per sport.  They could still play in the playoffs.  Imagine the hype for those games!!

If it wasn’t a big deal, then you wouldn’t be on here posting and reading about it, there wouldn’t be articles in Indystar about it, and there wouldn’t be news stations running it as a top headline.
