My friend is a basketball referee who is working his way up the ladder. Currently, he does alot of girls games along with some boys JV/Frosh, etc.

Last month, he told me about a varsity 1A girls game that he worked.

44-7 at the half. You might think that the winning coach would use the 2nd half to get some varsity experience for his younger players? Nope.

Even though they had 12 players dressed, the winning team went with a 7-player rotation until only 3:30 remained in the game-- then he put 3 of the bench players in to finish. 2 of his own players didn't play at all...in a 89-23 game.

So in many cases, sportsmanship is totally up to the coaches in basketball. Some are good at it, some are not.

Basketball is just a different animal. The coaches don't necessarily share film, the officials have no agreement like we do in Football where they get a copy of the film.

To your point, I never understood this stuff either. My DD when she was a frosh would dress with the V but was always under what I called the 35 point rule. She was never allowed in the game unless we had a 35 point lead. They would even make her set in the JV game so she would have quarters available in the V game. I'm thinking after the half, use that time to get some of your young kids in and get them some meaningful reps with the V. Don't just throw your JV on the floor with the rest of the JV at the end of the game. That serves no purpose other than getting them some more JV time. By putting kids in with the V, they're getting experience with the speed of the game and it's actual V experience.

    Hello, Willie Neslon?

And Keith Richards is the poster child for heroin use.

If they start making me wear high vis reflective pants, I quit. I’ll be “safe” at home in my recliner.

I have a buddy who's into work efficiency big time. He started wearing these and bought them for his crew. I just laughed at him. Of course he retired at 55 very comfortably so I guess the joke's on me, but there's no way in hell I'm wearing those things.

Ok.  Right.  So let's throw out a scenario...

Team A is in a rivalry game with Team B.  Team B's all-state quarterback must sit out the first half for disciplinary reasons.  As a result, Team A racks up a 35-0 lead at the half and a running clock is mandated for the second half.  Team B receives the second half kickoff, runs their no huddle offense and scores in 2 minutes.  Team A receives the ensuing kickoff and decides not to run a play, but take consecutive delay of game penalties until the entire third quarter ends.  They run one play to begin the fourth quarter and then continue to take penalties without running a play until the game ends.  Team B never gets the ball back again and their star player cannot help them mount a comeback.

Could this happen under the current rule?

    Is B's All-State QB also an All-State DE......LB.......S....CB....

  5. Everyone take a deep breath, war is not imminent.

One of the players in the destabilization of the region is dead. The Iranians put on a show that didn't amount to much in the dessert, so they get to save face, as promised they struck back at the evil west. The next news cycle will come around soon enough and all this will be forgotten as the media delves into the next Trump scandal du jour.

  6. Two schools of thought.

    1. My neighbor will typically buy something needed every summer or fall at auction for pennies on the dollar and spend the winter rebuilding it. For instances a few years back a relatively new combine that had caught fire and burned. The machine was written off, but from what I could tell it just melted the paint and stickers off of it, and melted belts and hoses. He has the cash out of hand for parts, the 5Kish he spent with the insurance company, and come spring he's got essentially a quarter million dollar combine.

    2. A large farmer south of town buys a new combine every year. He has 0 maintenance costs. If a new machine breaks down the local distributor has a truck in his field within the hour, because he buys so spends so much money with them.

This has been going on for years with the hillbillies and their diesel 4x4's. The first and second generation Cummins engines from the Dodge trucks are in high demand and fetching stupid prices, because they don't have all the electronics on them. They're a lot easier to customize and work on at home.

I dinged 2 crews I observed during the tournament for not knowing this rule. For the unbelievers, the rule reference is 3-4-3:

“ART. 3 . . . The game clock shall start with the snap or when any free kick is touched, other than first touching by K, if the game clock was stopped because:

“i. The penalty for a delay of game foul is accepted.”

Either not true, or many refs have messed this up. I have taken many a delay of games in a running clock scenario in 2 states for this very reason.

Doesn't the running clock supersede the rule?

OK first of all, Waffle House is delicious.

Yes I have a Blackstone as part of my arsenal on deck and I'm certain it gets used more than our kitchen range does. I cooked on it twice over the weekend. Range was used 0.

There is NOTHING more entertaining/fascinating than going in an old school Waffle House where the grill is right behind the bar, and watching a guy/gal who's good on the grill ply their craft. I could literally do it for hours. Best I ever saw was at the Waffle House on Roswell Road in Marietta, GA. Dude was a magician.

    And yes I'm a redneck.

Did anyone see and hear Booger McFarland's work during recent games to include the Texans and Bills playoff games.    Not once, but twice in 2 different games.  Booger, Booger, Booger......

    Coal fired?

    Depends.

The cooling cycle is a lot more electricity dependent than the heating cycle. Nationally according to EIA coal amounts to about 27% or our electricity generation. I would guess that percentage is a lot higher in Indiana.

Heat exchangers would run on a variety of fuels which is typically mandated by location. I'm not sure coal is in the equation. Fuel oil, natural gas, and propane I would guess are the major fuels. Of course there are still electrical components.

My point being industrial facilities are the largest users of energy across the board. Whether a high rise office building or a manufacturing facility. Individuals switching the light bulbs in their home is akin to pissing in the ocean.
