I'm not sure how bad they really want to be in the conference as it is.

I can't speak to that, I have no idea, nor have I talked to anyone in the know. Purely my opinion I would think it's a pretty good fit for them, a handful of competitive games, decent gates, some gimme's to get healed, and the flexibility to go play 3 non-conference games where ever they like. EC has never shied away from OH and KY schools.

Valid point, but east and west divisions could present themselves. So no Madison to connersville trips.

EIAC currently uses a 3A/4A split in Football, which doesn't bode well for adding an odd number. Currently  eight schools all play each other, regardless of class, so seven conference games with two non-conference. The exception to that Rushville and East Central only play six conference games, obviously not playing each other.  I'm not sure if this was a scheduling anomaly or what. Rushville's schedule doesn't look like it's changed since their first year in the conference, when they played EC week 1. There are a lot of traditional rivalries in the EIAC, obviously Rushville and Connersville being the outliers equation. I don't know what the conference by-laws require as far as playing conference FB games. EC has some non-conference traditional rivalries, Harrison and Roncalli come to mind, I'm not sure they'd be on board with adding a bad conference game and lose the gate for traditional rivals.

  3. Columbus HS, later North was a founding member, 1936, of the South Central Conference. At the time the conference included Greencastle, Connersville, Franklin, Martinsville, Rushville, and Shelbyville. Within a couple of years Greensburg, Indianapolis Washington, and Seymour joined. Washington left in pretty short order, like 3-4 years later. I'm not sure any of that qualifies as "Indy" connections, as I recall back in the day, there were clear distinctions as you headed up 31 between Franklin, Whiteland, Greenwood, and Indy. It's not like today when you get to Franklin, you're in Indy.

Southport was added in 51 or so and left in the mid-60's. Bloomington HS, now BHSS, was added in 64. Center Grove entered in 91.

When the SCC finally fell apart in 97, Columbus North left with several other current and former members to form Conference Indiana, a ten team conference. I'm assuming this is where the Indy connection comes in. It should be noted that several of those original 10 have moved on to greener pastures: DC, FC, PM, LC, Martinsville, and Pike. The lone "Indy connection" currently being Southport. CN has routinely been placed in the same sectional with CG however, several of those years the sectional consisting of CG, CN, Jeffersonville, and New Albany.

In the grand scheme of things, I suppose it's a little bit faster for Columbus North to get to the interstate to head north than it is for Columbus East to get the interstate to head south.

Brock signed with Marian last week.  This is a great fit as he will be a GREAT player for the Knights.  His older brother Branson is likely a three/four year starter at WR for Southern Illinois.  He saw considerable time this season over the last four weeks on special teams.

Go Knights! Thank god Tom Allen didn't get involved.

What prospective conference might that be?  Mid-Southern?  EIAC?

I don't see the MSC as a viable option, they currently have nine football playing schools adding a 10th would knock out their only non-conference game. I'm sure with most schools taking advantage of traditional rivalry games, I doubt schools would want to take the hit financially, if you're looking at it purely from a Football standpoint. And honestly all things considered, with Madison moving the MSC, I would guess that would be the determining factor. My guess is they already play most of the MSC schools in other sports. Madison does not travel all that well either.

History has shown that the EIAC likes symmetry. They're currently at eight and given their big/small school format, my guess is they'd want to add two schools at a time, preferably a 3A and a 4A. I have no inside knowledge of the situation, purely a guess on my part.

I would think the best move for Madison football wise would be to go the Mid Indiana Football Conference. That gets them six games they should be able to compete in, round out the schedule with JC, Scottsburg, Rock Creek, go across the river, whatever. Scheduling other sports isn't nearly as difficult as Football, maybe play in a Football only conference and stay independent in the other sports.

I wish Madison the best, it's sad to see to some extent, Madison was one of the founding members of the HHC, at the same time, things change and you have to roll with those changes.

to compare a sample of Congresswomen who succumb to peer pressure, to amazing women that on their own free wear the uniform of the most prestigious military academy in the in the US for the future defense of our country is laughable....if it wasn't so sad.....

I think you missed the point TD.

Rumor is Seymour is out when another conference opening is found. What's going on with the conference?

Seymour, East, BNL, JC, Madison would have been gone six years ago if they could have found a sixth. One of the main components of Seymour leaving the conference is no longer a factor. I don't think the athletic administration ever had any serious interest in leaving anyway.

The problem is not what most think, it's not really a competitive balance issue, the river schools are notoriously bad travelers, except when they have a decent basketball team.

And before everyone starts in on SC or Charlestown, SC was approached six years ago and had no interest. I realize a new AD, but I don't see any reason for them to leave their situation. My guess is in the short term the HHC will continue on as a seven school conference, Bloomington North is a possible replacement, but those Tuesday night trips from the river to the north side of Bloomington are going to be a killer.

In Madison's situation I think leaving the conference with no exit strategy is a bad idea. The idea of being an independent in football is a recipe for a lot of travel and worse ass whoopins.

I think in strictly football terms, Madison leaving is a plus for the HHC schools, it gives them another non-conference game and allows teams to get a quality opponent or a win, which ever their situation dictates.
