The State of Indiana is producing more and more high level Division 1 linemen than ever before.  Unfortunately, the skills of these highly sought after players are being muted by the mindless playground RPO systems that have become so widely used across high school football fields on Friday nights.

RPO is a simple offensive scheme that is easily taught to bantam school players and mastered by pee wees and midgets.  The drive blocking and pass protection skills of big linemen are mitigated in these schemes.  Lots of standing around and then their involvement in the action is very limited.

Indiana schools should play to their strengths.  Refocus on the running back and fullback positions, and take advantage of these big homegrown offensive linemen.

There is nothing more fun to watch than a big powerful football team moving down the field at will behind a rugged and nasty offensive line.

Have you seen a college or NFL game in the last....oh I don't know 20 years?

I threw about my 2020 census form and did it online instead.  And when asked the intrusive, nonsense question of (and I paraphrase) "What is your country of origin" after indicating I was Caucasian I simply typed in "none of your business"  for myself and every member of my household.

We are all native Americans at my house.

And like I said the world isn't fair, it never will be.  Therefore not everyone will reach the level of "success" they may personally reach to attain.

Who here has said the world is fair?

What's wrong with wishing people success?

Why do you continually want to manipulate people's words?

I'm watching CNBC again this evening and catching an interview with a small business owner who owns a vintage record and CD shop.

The owner has laid off most of his employees and is looking at the near term likelihood that he will need to shut down permanently without massive government infusion.

He claims the government proposal to disperse $2000 to all citizens will do nothing toward saving his business.  He says he needs help with rent and his general overall overhead.

I say let the business shut down and go away.

Suddenly, everybody is looking for a handout.  It appears that far too many businesses in this country do not have the capital to survive more than a few weeks without revenue.  Frankly, if that is all the financial backing you can afford, you should be working for someone else like Walmart or Amazon.

Democratic lawmakers are taking this opportunity to make a big push for student debt reduction.  So as a taxpayer, I am expected to bail out a deadbeat student who made horrific choices to major in underwater basket weaving at BillyBobs Online College for the Underprivileged.  And I am expected to step up and help cover Bubba's basic overhead so he can profitability run his hobby vintage record business.

No thanks.  We need massive contraction in the small business community.  Too many tattoo parlors.  Too many coffee shops.  Too many sub shops.  Too many vaping shops.  Too many gas station-convenience stores.

The cannabis business found out very quickly about oversupply, and contracted just as fast as it started.

Most of these industries will soon follow the retail model where specialty undercapitalized retailers were wiped out and overtaken by the big guys.  Its a big guy world.  Time for the hobbyist  workers who don't want a corporate environment to get ready to leave their comfort zones.  Massive contraction is coming.

    I'm preparing for the wave.

Someone with more knowledge than me will have to educate us on Bylaw 15-2.

Does that mean club volleyball and soccer teams can resume their weekend tournaments in Atlanta, St. Louis, Orlando, and so on? That would be great for HS athletes. (sarcasm)

It basically means that all athletes are being treated as "in school out of season". So limited contact as permitted by local corporations but they are able to participate with club teams and private instructors. I'm not aware of any travel organization that is having tournaments anywhere in the country right now. What shocked me was to caveat that if they can resume May 1, cutting the number of practices from 10 to 5, I never thought they would waiver on that number.

In all fairness to the IHSAA I think they are doing everything in their power to have a spring sports season. Hats of too them for being flexible, holding out hope, and trying to salvage something out of the spring season. At this point I think it's a foregone conclusion spring sports aren't happening. Breaks my heart for all the seniors. All the preparation that has already been put in by the coaches, athletes, and officials, but as the old adage goes, play every game like it's your last, because it could be.

  6. To be such a strong character, Alpha's stint was pretty short lived. How is the story playing along with the comics?

I suppose we're leading to a war with the Whisperers for a season ending cliff hanger?

  7. I’m in Clearwater Beach, just left Publix, plenty of water, plenty of TP. I didn’t see any hand sanitizer but I didn’t really look. We walked around last night, while there were certainly people out and about, it was far from packed like you would expect. Friend of mine got tickets to Clearwater/St Pete for 21.40 yesterday on Spirit I believe out of Indy, bag was only 30 bucks. The sun is hot, the water is fine, why not take advantage. I think we’re going to plan a long weekend down here again next month.

Some conferences have and will continue to do that. If things have settled down by 4/6 then the B1G will allow some regular season contests/meets through the end of the year. I wonder if playing some games would affect the possibility of the NCAA considering granting eligibility extensions to these athletes.

Eligibility is obviously an issue, springs sports were already in full swing. I think it's impossible to predict given the dynamics of this situation, literally changing by the hour.

As far as the HS situation, it's very fluid as well. As things stand right now, most schools are looking at resuming classes 4/6. Given that date the earliest any contest could happen would be the third week of April. This thing appears to continue to grow, I just don't see schools returning by 4/6, I really think spring sports are in jeopardy.

The IHSAA has now postponed the BB tournament. Postponed to me means we'll do it in a week or so, and that's just not going to happen. I think they're prolonging the inevitable.

Just because championships are cancelled (NCAA or NFHS state associations) doesn't mean the regular seasons for those competitions are cancelled. Especially in NCAA I expect they cancelled all championship events because the funding they would have used to pay for them is likely lost with the cancellation of the basketball tournament. March Madness is 80% of the revenue for the NCAA and they exist to regulate policies and conduct championships. They don't do anything with the regular season or conference tournaments.

Big Ten has suspended all athletic activities until 4/6 and will re-evaluate at that time. Assuming other conferences are taking similar measures.

    Re:  IHSAA Spring Sports Update

Good morning.  In light of concerns surrounding COVID-19 respective of IHSAA spring sports, I would like to provide the following considerations and clarity.

    • Regular season contests are conducted at the discretion of our member schools.  Currently, the guidance being provided by the State of Indiana allows for events with less than 250 individuals in attendance to be conducted.  Local jurisdiction shall prevail with regard to whether contests in the regular season are conducted.
    • Some schools in our state have closed and will implement extended break periods.  Once students return to school, all provisions of Rule 9-14 - Practice Attendance to Participate in a Contest shall be enforced.  This health and safety measure within the by-laws will not be waived.  Should a previously scheduled contest fall before the completion of said separate days of practice, the contest must be rescheduled or cancelled.
    • A decision on meeting a minimum number of contests to become eligible for IHSAA tournament series events will be made at a later date.
    • At this time, the IHSAA is planning on staging all spring sport tournament series events as scheduled.

If there is anything we have learned over the past 3 years....

    It's the medias fault.

As I have stated several times, I have been involved in a couple of media stories, one of which garnered some national attention. The amount of misinformation, in some cases outright lies is astounding to me. To think at the very least the media isn't manipulative is sticking your head in the sand. And I know local media doesn't like to be tied into the CNN's/Fox/MSNBC's of the world, but they are just as culpable. I saw an article posted just last week on one of the Indy TV stations in regards to one of my stories, numerous fallacies to the point it was pretty much laughable in my opinion. Some of it is clearly incompetence, but some of it is clearly intentional. How else could you watch CNN and Fox coverage of the same story and get two completely different stories?

  12. I'm curious if we have any administrators that read this board what their feeling is. My thoughts are after seeing the NCAA's move yesterday, after you lose the cash cow, cutting the losers gets real easy. NAIA has cancelled their winter sports tournaments, but are waiting on spring sports. My guess is this lies more in the hands of the principals/superintendents, and the IHSAA will take their cue from them.

Personally I think I'll be doing more fishing this spring than any spring in recent memory.

Western Boone has cancelled all athletic activity as well as closed school until after Spring Break (March 30).

I am supposed to go on a cruise on Spring Break (Boat leaves the 22nd)... We are holding out and still going... Though with the closure of Disneys, I suspect the cruise may get cancelled as well.

If it's a Disney cruise, it's already been cancelled. Disney has suspended operations thru the end of the month. They have a boat leaving Port Canaveral today returning Monday, two boats returning tomorrow, and they have another boat currently at sea returning next week. No boats leaving after today until April 1.
