  1. It wasn't the rain that was the issue. It was the high winds. Sustained winds over 30mph, Gusts in the 50s. Indy Airport recorded a 68mph wind gust. That causes power lines and trees to fall. There was a tree that fell on a Puntam County Sheriff car on 40 while he was stopped investigating another downed tree. I drove past multiple trees down on power lines, I saw power lines go down in the wind. Todays winds are 10-15mph, maybe gusting to 25.
  2. I am a coach on a team, we arrived to play our game last night after driving in high profile buses in 50-60mph gusts and moving all over the road because of those gusts. We started warming up on the field and as we were warming up, a power line snapped 5 poles and a transformer blew at the school. 75ft from our buses and maybe 150ft from our players and our locker room, in full view of everyone at the field. Power lines on the ground were causing smoke and a fire was trying to start because of those downed, still live, lines. We had parents texting us about downed trees across roads so that we could plan our trip back to the school safely. We then had to talk to our kids about what to do if they come across downed lines, downed trees, and flooded roads because we had 16-18 year olds driving home in that weather. As coaches, we have the responsibility for the health and safety of each and every member of our team. Last night's weather was dangerous for much of those in the state. It's not about how pretty the game is going to be, or how inconvenient getting soaking wet on the sideline would be. It's about the lives of the players, managers, and coaches of the team. Sorry if it ruins your Friday night entertainment, some things are more important.
  3. This will be a blowout. Lapel will easily handle Frankton. Maybe 42-7
  4. It's only Shenandoah. They had something like 250 kids quarantined due to contact tracing over the last week or so, according to a message by the superintendent Sunday night. That's like 20% of our total student population. Right now week 1 is not looking likely and I'm doubting we'll play week 2. The rest of the Henry County schools are business as usual.
  5. You may want to reach out to Scecina. Scecina was supposed to play Shenadoah but the Henry County Health Dept shut down Doah extra curriculars today.
  6. Doah plays for 1 HC and I believe 4 assistants. And the 4 MS coaches are also paid but I assume that's the MS budget.
  7. I coach middle school football. Our middle school has about 330 kids give or take. I have 42 kids combined on the two teams (7th and 8th grade). For simplicity's sake, lets assume half the 330 are boys (165), That means I have about 25% of the male population playing football for me.
  8. Good call. Hadn't noticed that. I assumed he had a double, just didn't go through them all to check which was the double.
  9. You've got 9 teams in 37.
  10. Cole Alexander from Lapel- Strong arm and mobile. 40+ combined TDs as a junior. Peyton Starks from Shenandoah- Only had 1800 yards passing 34 combined TDs because he plays in a predominately run oriented offense but he has a very strong arm.
  11. No, Portage County. The school district was Ravenna, right next to Kent. We were only there 2 years before moving to Indiana. Our first year there, they had a kid named Marcus Sanders as a senior. One of the best football players I've ever seen up close.
  12. A school my wife worked at in north east Ohio sold PSLs to fund their multi million dollar stadium. The stadium cost the taxpayers $0. I think the cost was like $1500 a seat. Very nice facility. Had field turf installed, which at the time was not common in Ohio (early 2000s). I think they since sold the naming rights to the stadium too.
