  1. I found some 2015 numbers online, but I had to go straight to administration for current numbers.
  2. You are looking too deeply....of course, there are kids with FRL who participate in sports and who have great stories. The issue for Iowa was...what reliable data can we use to most effectively adjust enrollment numbers for competitive balance...albeit not perfect...but what would be the best mechanism that can be trusted and is readily available? FRL is certainly not a perfect mechanism but a pretty damn good one as has been noted and will continue to be via the anecdotal posts on this thread. Particpication is another good one but much harder to quantify with trustable data. Iowa is onto something here. If someone posts Indiana FRL numbers with football records correlated .....my hunch is that it's going to be very telling.
  3. I like this because when looking at the P/P issue that every state grapples with, more often than not folks take the approach that some action is needed to adjust the P/Ps enrollment for competitive balance. With this method, your starting point is that the P/Ps represent a near-perfect student body participation with extracurricular, or at least as perfect as can reasonably be accomplished. One then adjusts the public schools "down" based on their impediments/challenges. FRL, admittedly, isn't the perfect mechanism...but it's not too bad. I'm curious how they came up with the 40%....just throwing some numbers around it seems like a pretty good number.
  4. South Gibson School Corp FRL is going to run about 25%. I will get the exact numbers soon.
  5. I like this....it kind of gets at the REAL issue in a roundabout way. Agree....we should add the number of disabled kids to the calculation.
  6. That won't bode well for them from what I have seen at the lower levels...lets just say the next 5 years or so. Then again, conference championships don't mean much....just hate to see them never win another one in the foreseeable future.
  7. A p/p with football tradition playing a class below where it should be playing is NEVER an underdog....how could it be?
  8. Sagain likes when team A holds team B to zero. Maybe both will do that.
  9. I called it! Well at least I called the Catholic matchup!
  10. I don’t think that methodology is super sound. It’s inherent in the statistical analysis for these team’s ratings to evolve the deeper you go in the tournament. Although, perhaps you can identify trends going bad on direction or the other…but at the end of the day, it’s not identifying much.
  11. How are you determining if a team is over or undervalued vs Sagarin after week 9?
  12. More trivia because that's all I'm good for. GS is fielding its youngest team in the Hart era (13th season).
  13. Trivia for ya....I also play Bass guitar on the worship team. I know, I know....so many talents.
  14. I know a Titan who made more than a few Patriots miss over a recent 4-year span....it's the circle of life.
  15. Her parents are friends of mine. Same church....I tried to trip him coming out of church the other day but I missed.
  16. This just in! The Goldsberry’s are relocating to Fort Branch! (I kid .. I kid)
  17. The SIAC fans tend to think God created the heavens, the earth, and then the SIAC. The closed conference kind of allows a bit of a scapegoat to perpetuate the myth. Teams two through six are a toss-up on any given night. Is that because it's a meat grinder of a conference, or because in general, it's just kind of ....Meh? The parochials' are led by coaching legends who year after year have a higher number of top-quality coachable kids than an equally sized public can only count on every decade or so. I can tell you this, Sagairn is NOT 10 points off on every SIAC team right now. It's closer than they want to believe. Don't let this distract you from the fact that Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, "Spare Tire" Dixon.
  18. I totally agree...it's one small tweak that kills 80% of the complaints with "all in". Sure there are blowout games either way...but show me a team that doesn't want to play one more game blowout or not.
  19. I don't disagree...but the IHSAA doesn't care about that.
  20. It doesn't bother me either....I also passionately believe that a qualification system would have ZERO effect on the "meaningfulness" or the quality of play in SW Indiana. I believe that our conferences do a pretty good job of taking care of that. If they would just seed 1 and 2 on opposite sides of the bracket...I think that would be good enough.
  21. I predict the Catholic hating IHSAA will put Memorial and Mater Dei in a round 1 game.
  22. I will also take the Raiders.
